The Pom-Pom Review
I thought the "Pom-Pom Wars" was a great book . It was interesting yet was based on the reality of today. Jessica and Elizabeth are wonderful characters with a message to send out to the world. The message is that anyone can do whatever they want and be good at it if they put their mind to it. That is what Jessica proves when she starts her squad. It also sends out a meesage to never lie to your friends or hold back things from them that they need to know. In Liz's case her attempt to tell the truth backfired on her.To really understand what I mean, you will have to pick up a copy and read it for yourself. In conclusion, I really did think it was a great book to be enjoyed by someone from any age group.

A exellent and gripping book.
I loved this book ,and recomend it to any S.V.H book lovers,.The reason i loved it was because it turned out completly different to how i thought it would turn out.I was a little shocked when i got to the part about Elizabeth and Ken.This book has a touch of every thing.Romance,Drama,Betrayl, and hurt .It was as i have already written a Exellent book.!!!!!!!!I truthfully rate this book 6 Stars .So go on if you love the S.V.H series you have got to read The Pom -Pom wars (No 113)!

"Run" is an interesting novel, highly underread
"Run" was a suprisingly heart wrenching read involving a girl who is left alone by her parents for the weekend. She has a secret fear of being alone in her parent's cottage which freaks her out. She befriends two guys who are bicycling through, and unsuccessfully tries to make them grilled cheese sandwiches to get them to stay! The plot thickens when the three encounter a desperate guy who robs the house. But this book will lead you into questioning what is "right", and what faith can be placed in authority. A beautiful book on all levels.

Not your typical William Sleator, but pretty good
This is not your typical William Sleator book. No space monsters, no scientific concepts... it's not even written in first-person like most of his books are. It's basically a suspense book. But it's still good, and it has a lot more characterization than most of his recent books. It's also "deeper." Whether that's a good thing or not is open to question.

ONE MILLION STARS
I picked up this book quite by accident, having been recommended to another Williams, or, perhaps, another Joy. Frustrated, I glanced at the first page, and, finding it not repellent, read a bit more. The next thing I knew, I was immersed in something extraordinary and rare. It's amazing--and depressing--that a book like this can exist, no longer heralded, buried on a shelf in a bookstore where a handful of people might discover it by accident. About the book there is little to say that can adequately describe what it's like, except that it's like plunging into the soul of a very particular young woman.

Innovative and Great
One of my all time favorites! I've written graduate essays on the book and always list it as being a major influence on my own writing. Joy Williams is one of the few authors who can describe the world's craziness and how we live in it.

Excellant book on teenagers based on sound principals
This book gives you a bright and new outlook on dealing with your Son. Mr. Beausay's methods are compationate and yet very effective. The secret is to use it like a refrence book. Read it over and over again always going back when you need to review. You will find a new perspective every time. Very interesting reading with the Bible as a large source of it's wisdom.

Inspiring and thought-provoking guide.
The sons of Bill Beausay, author of Teenage Boys, are lucky to have Bill as their father. With wit, compassion, concern, and wisdom, the author gives us advice and sample scenarios for those of us living with the most difficult, yet potentially delightful of people, teenage boys. I enjoyed the book immensely.

Bill wants us all to remember the power we have to affect our sons. He provides sample dialogues with which to work through problem areas. With sections entitled A Parenting Plan for Man-Making, Shaping the Inner Man at Home, Shaping a Man Ready for Life, and Shaping a Man's Soul, Bill Beausay is concerned with the big questions in life. He wants the absolute best for his sons and describes many of his own experiences raising teenage boys.

In the final chapter " Dreamers and Leaders", the author reprints a letter he published in his newspaper column "Winners". The letter is to the parents of a young man Bill observes in the checkout line of a store.

" I saw your son today and felt compelled to write you this letter. I wouldn't have even noticed him had not my eyes accidentally caught his. Something seemed vacant there. Nothing about him really spoke of life, of energy, or of distinction. I was overcome by the sense that you, as his folks, should see this moment.

... there's not a reason in the world for him to blend in like he does, everything about him is unique and alive and wonderful. I'm certain that unless you tell him, nobody will.

You can teach him to dream bigger, hope larger, see wider, think more... Ask him to stand erect, chance a look into another's eyes, smile and laugh loudly. It's a mom and dad's job to find the spark in a young man's heart and carefully guard it. You can cradle his hopes and help them come to be..."

I bought a copy for a good friend with hopes that it will help him with his 14 year-old son. He's delighted with the book. I wish Teenage Boys had been around in the 50's for my Dad to read.

"The True Prince" has true style
I recommend J. B. Cheaney's books "The Playmaker" and "The True Prince" to my community college literature classes for two reasons. First, these books have obviously been painstakingly researched because they give readers a "feel" for the time. Shakespeare emerged from and was nurtured by a vibrant, energetic (and a little dangerous) era, full of possibility. These times come alive in Cheaney's books. Second, in additon to the full-fleshed characters and engaging plots many young adult books have, Cheaney also gives readers something they don't experience as often: good style--"sparkling" one reviewer called it, and sparkling it is!

A wonderful, exciting adventure!
This is the second in JB Cheaney's series of novels about young Elizabethan apprentice actor, Richard Mallory(the first was the excellent, The Playmaker). It is even better than the first! Characters are drawn in great depth and subtlety, the story's a real rollercoaster of an intrigue, with disguised highwaymen, mysterious writers of 'putrid plays', hints of strange, malevolent magic, all part of the mix, and the atmosphere of Elizabethan theatre life and London streets is so vivid you can see it, smell it, touch it: and all done with a light, deft touch. A fabulous read. Don't miss it!

One of my favorite books
My mom bought this one for me when I was about eight years old. I'm nineteen now and I still love it. :) The pictures are exquisite... awesome illustrations bring Shakespeare to life so much it will be familiar to even little kids years later. These pictures are really buried deep in my memory and I'm glad. :)

Great Book...my children love it!
I checked this book out of the library...hoping the beautiful pictures would captivate my 3 and 5yr old and they would then listen to Shakespeare. It WORKED!!! So I knew it was worth purchasing. The book contains only small selections from Shakespeare's work...but a great way to introduce your child to the beauty of his words. Wonderful Illustrations!!!

A Great Read
William Henry Harrison, second book in the Young Patriots Series, doesn't disappoint, but makes an excellent read, and both entertains and educates. The illustratins are simply wonderful and truly enhance the story. Geared to the 8 to 12 year old, it's a must on every family bookshelf!

A welcome, highly recommended biography for kids.
William Henry Harrison holds the distinction of being the United States President who delivered the longest inaugural address and served the shortest time (30 days) before he also became the first president to die in office. William Henry Harrison: Young Tippecanoe is a superb biography for young readers ages 8 to 12, written by the late Howard Peckham, and originally published in 1951. Featuring the childhood adventures of our ninth president (including the thrilling rescue of his sister from drowning when he was only seven, and the courageous capture of a British soldier just one year later when he was eight, William Henry Harrison is a welcome, very highly recommended addition to school and community biography collections for children and part of the Patria Press newly designed "Young Patriots" series.

Perfect for those seeking intro to Shakespeare for kids
Joy! Shakespeare--undiluted--for everybody, either kids or adults! The layout of this book couldn't be more helpful. After a brief introduction, the compiler gets down to business. Each speech or poem is preceeded by a brief explaination, and after the selection, a small word-list to aid understanding. All are swathed in beautiful, dramatic paintings that are truly helpful for comprehension. All the famous lines are here, from Henry V's Agincourt "St. Crispin" speech, his inly-ruminating soliloquey about the nature of power, scenes from Macbeth, Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet, and a couple of sonnets, and much more.

There are two things that are very impressive about this book. First, the compiler manages to introduce very adult themes about power, loyalty, etc., as well as the vocabulary of 400 years ago, even a brief explaination of iambic pentameter in a tone so chatty that you hardly realize you are learning. Second, the rich pictures impart a thirst for MORE Shakespeare. You'll hear, "Can we hear more? What's the rest of this story?" often!

Any publication that presents the Bard as accessable and enjoyable deserves a place in every school or public library, and certainly every home. Add this to Charles and Mary Lamb's "Tales of Shakespeare" as a new classic.

Fabulous!!!!!
A perfect selection from Shakespeare's greatest plays with gorgeous artwork. An ideal introduction to Shakespeare for young people. With a smart and easy to read preamble describing Shakespeare's life and work and wonderful introductions to each poem, the book does a fantastic job of explaining how Shakespeare's work is both drama and poetry.

Scholarly, informative, and highly recommended
William O'Brien believed in the British Parliament's capacity to give good government in 19th Century Ireland. His attempts to secure liberal reform were largely unsuccessfully, and he entered the 1840s with a growing conviction that the Irish Members were wasting their time at Westminister. In 1843, his political campaign for "justice" in Ireland prefigured the tactics of Parnell, but the effort ended in disappointment and O'Brien joining the Repeal Association in October of 1843. For the next five years he was a major political figure, and finally, a leader in the 1848 Irish rebellion. In William Smith O'brien And The Young Ireland Rebellion Of 1848, Robert Sloan provides the reader with a remarkable and informative political biography, as well as a "window in time" to the events that led up to Ireland's doomed rebellion against an unresponsive and exploitative British rule. Scholarly, informative, and highly recommended.

Not really a review
OK, slight admission - I've never read the book. Frankly, failed Irish rebellions (of which there seem many) are not really my interest. However, the author is my history teacher at school, and a really good bloke. He deserves to do well out of this book, so even if you don't like the subject, buy it and give him a nice supplement to his teacher's salary!
