Wish he'd write another!
The writing is beautiful and simple. Never mushy. I was hooked in no time. I may be biased because I' a bit of a weather nut... The story is anyone's, but yet unusual. It's easy to like the main character--he guy is searching for something...but again, William Hauptman does not make it mushy. And the ending is perfect...

Hidden Treasure
This book is about a group of teenagers that are walking through the dessert as a school project, but when they find a treasure map they're tempted to leave their trail and follow the map. This is a book that I really like. It's typical Sweet Valley, it's funny, exciting, and thrilling, you never know what's going to happen next!

Trouble at Home
I loved the book Trouble at Home. It really showed lots about how valuable family time is. Elizabeth, Jessica, and Steven try to stop their parents arguing but it doesn't seem to help. It shows what can happen when a family has problems.

Un Granjero de Diez Años
As a child growing up in the U.S. who read and loved the Little House series, as a mother who loved reading the books years later to my own children and now, working in a ministry with at-risk children in South American, I was excited to see the Little House books are available in Spanish.

The book is faithfully translated and a joy to read but I had a few problems which are important to note. First, reading is not a custom in South America, books are expensive and there are no public libraries available to poor children (at least not where we live in Bogotá, Colombia). So a book that is geared to a 10-yr-old's reading level in the U.S. is likely to be too advanced for a 10-yr-old in South America. I found the translation to be above the reading level of the average 10-yr-old. Perhaps the translator could have used a simpler vocabulary in some areas.

For example, there is very little snow in Latin America and the vocabulary for snow terms could have been simplified since these words are not in common usage.

Also, Latin American countries use the metric system so translating measurements in the U.S. system isn't understandable. For instance, "foot" is not a unit of measurement, to nearly all Latin American kids it's the body part at the end of your leg. Measurements should be given in meters not feet and kilometers not miles or children will be confused.

Also, and this is my personal pet peeve, it's troubling to see English words used in place of Spanish words when there are Spanish words available. For instance, Almanzo's teacher is called Mister Course when the titles Señor or Profesor are more appropriate.

For English-speaking children who want to improve their Spanish vocabulary and grammar, Un Granjero de Diez Años is a great book. For Spanish-speaking children, this book is just as delightful, amusing and memorable as Farmer Boy.

I'm 14 and I loved it!
I'm 14 years old and I like science and art. My older brother Scott got this book "The Universe" as a present. One day I started reading it and got interested in the Introduction when it told about time not existing without matter and motion. I really kept reading then.

It was an excellent book. I am a freshman in high school and I absolutely loved it. It had a love story mixed in with historical fiction. I would recommend this book to anyone who will sit down to enjoy a good book.

Wonderful Collection!!
Having never read Brooke's A Telling of the Tale, I cannot say whether or not this one was a disappointing sequel, but on its own, I thought this collection of short stories was wonderful! This was the first set of stories I read that took the traditional fairy tale and turned it completely upside-down. I absolutely love this book.

Three of the four stories contain reworkings of Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and the Frog Prince. In Beauty and the Beast, Beauty is a truly hideous-looking woman with a gentle, loving heart, and the Beast is a stunningly beautiful man with a heart of ice. The ending is definitely not traditional. I was almost disappointed with the ending, but it fits:0)

The story of the Frog Prince takes place years after the princess kissed the frog and turned him into a prince. Now, married and middle-aged, the magic seems to have gone out of the relationship. The queen wishes her husband were a frog again, and the king wants desperately to tell his wife he loves her, but is too busy, too harried, and too afraid to say anything. The plan that the king comes up with is definitely original! A winner! Once again, the ending is far from a conventional fairy-tale's.

The third story, a remake of Sleeping Beauty, also takes place long after the princess is released from her slumbers with a kiss. Her husband long dead and the princess herself settled into almost-middle age, the princess opens her door one day to find a middle-aged prince standing on the doorstep, determined to kiss her. What ensues is a very funny story, and leads into the last tale, which is so different you must read it for yourself. Enjoy!

I strongly encourage....
I strongly encourage anyone out there to buy this book! The story line is great! The music is really catchy. The main seller for me on the book, however, is the wonderful job Charlotte Rae does narrating it. She uses a different voice for each character and can keep even the wildest child entertained. It is definately worth your time:)

Fascinating New Twist on Then & Now
This is a great new twist on the usually plain Then and Now books; these authors used current tourists to recreat old vintage shots, and covered all parts of the city, not just the much repeated Mall aspects. A Great read!
