packed full of raunchy erotica
just the way I like em. All gay stories, all well written. Mostly pushing the boundaries, but not all the way. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good hard tantalizing read.

Recommended
What's legal in one place and time, Patrick points out in his introduction, is often forbidden in another, and some of the boys in the stories collected here would be offbase in more conservative jurisdictions. Generally, though, the stories are of older teens, and while the boys are always young, they are rarely innocent. Hustlers and porn stars turn up in a surprising number of tales, though with more than 500 pages of stories, guys who prefer the shy, boy-next-door type will find some pieces to please.

Erotic, sensitive collection with great insight and feeling
In this day, a collection of short stories dealing with the sexual interaction between adult men and teen-aged boys is always a dangerous undertaking. But the authors approach the subject with humor, sensitivity and remembered insight of how it felt to be "of that age" ie: emotionally half formed, physically adult but restricted by the conventions of society at large.

I recommend the book to educators and parents. The reading is fast pace, and I think that kids would enjoy reading it first hand.

I recommend this book to children, teachers and parents.
The book deals with a very real and disturbing issue. As the parent of a pre-schooler who has just started JK, I found this book of great value. It is very important for both parents and children to be aware of these real issues and be prepared to deal with them if/when they occur. The book is written in an informal dialogue that is easy to understand, which makes it easy for children to reade it on their own, or alternatively for parents to read it to the younger ones.

Written in a very informative and entertaining style.
Using dialogue in nonfiction is a very interesting way of getting an important message across to kids and parents who want to know what to do when they encounter a bully problem. It encourages the reader to read the book before such an incident occurs.

Greatest war story/coming of age tail ever told
I was first introduced to this serioes at school, we were assigned to read it for English, before this book all books assigned to us in school were all garbage and I expected the same, as did most the other students in my class, most wouldnt bother to read it, so the teacher read it aloud in class, for most of it upuntil the half way mark I ignored most of it, until it dawned on me that this book was actualy sounding o.k. When I got home i got my copy from the bookshelf and actualy started to read it, and I read at any chance I had, and when I finished I read the second and third and then had to wait while the rest were written and released
The amazing story starts off with a group of teenagers going camping, and when they return the find the Australia has been taken over by another country, they go to the bush again to hide, but can't just sit back and do nothing and decide to fight back in what ever way they can, although unconventional, when all is said and done and the series is over they made a huge impact on the war, sometimes planned, sometimes fluked, of coarse not all survive and with every loss you can not help but feel the emotional pain of the others, it is the best comming of age story I have read, and although it is listed as a young adult series, it will be unforgetable to all ages and you will develop a bond with Ellie, Homer, Kevin and the rest of the gang, I have never fell in love with any fictional charactors the way I did with these guys, not even in T.V series
A story like this comes along once in a life time, do not, and I mean do not missss this book

awesome
All the books in this series are brilliant

Marsden knows how to attract the teen reader...
The Dead of Night is a fascinating follow-up to Tomorrow, When the War Began. I teach a class of 7th and 8th graders and we have read both books aloud throughout the current year. The kids simply love this series. Marsden is no dummy! He knows how to cleverly pull in the teen readers. In this series, the adults have managed to screw things up and it is up to the kids to correct things. He offers a sense of adventure along with a sense of power to his teen readers. Furthermore, he deals directly, yet responsibly, with a number of issues that are especially important to teens. Somehow, he manages to capture the true feelings and concerns that are universal for most teens.

A Great Book
This book was a great book. It told what it was like through war when you are a kid. Josh didn't go to war but he was a friend of a Conferdate Soldier. Read this book. It is great

A book to read!!!!
This book was like a book taking you back into the time of Civil War Times. But you weren't where the fighting was you were at the prison were captives of the south were.

A Sunshine State Young Reader Award winner
A wonderful retelling of the Civil War from the veiw of a Union boy, this story gets down to the real grit of the matter and covers a less-acknowledged part of the War Between the States: the prisons. Joshua Loring and his frined Tom Hogan are truly believeable characters, the first step to keeping a reader engaged. But when you add the drama of the war as well as the conflict Josh faces in writing to a Confederate soldier and actually learning to like the other boy, the text is just addictive.

Extroidinary Novel
This book was beautifully and passionately written. It is a love story unique and philosophical. Do we choose our own fates? Alvina will tell you.

Soul Searching
Just like SISTER CARRIE, THE LOST GIRL is about a young woman searching for her place in the world. Meaning, floucing from one man to another, flirting, playing, getting engaged then dashing away for fun. And just like JEANNIE GERHARDT, this old man gets herself in trouble.

But the most fascinating part of this book is it's glimps into her background. How she was brought up in a wealthy and rich household, only to try out different occupations against her father's wishes, then ends up as a lower classed female in life. Very tragic.

A Touching, Soul-Searching Novel
I recently got done reading this wonderful, yet forgotten novel of Lawrence's. Truly compelling in it's intricate details of a young woman trying to find herself. Literally. She goes on the 'universal' self journey and discovers that she was lost and finally finds her identity and sensuality in the man she loves. D.H. Lawrence has a wonderful way of not wrapping up the ending in a nice, neat little package. As always, Lawrence is the ultimate man of mystery, sensual needs and desires. A "must read" for those who love to read Lawrence and for those who never have!

Opening a door
This collection opens doors to new understandings of contemporary spirituality in the USA.. The committed and courageous individuals who contributed to this volume give voice to the current and future fusion of transformative practice and social and environmental justice.
I highly recommend this book!

Mimi Goldman, Eugene Oregon

A book of authentic discovery from Generation X
RADICAL SPIRIT features a collection of personal writings from young spiritual seekers. Though the book contains multifarious experiences and viewpoints, a common core emerges that speaks to the heart. The unity-in-diversity is this: each author lives his or her own vision with sincerity and authenticity. They each approach their own unique path with a warm openness in body, mind, and spirit.

If you're interested in immersing yourself in emerging cultures, new visions of the world, and fresh outlooks on life, then this book is a must read. Some see Generation X as a transition culture - given life by the Boomers and birthing the culture yet to come. Ken Wilber calls this unfolding stage of consciousness "integral." Given the great spiral of development, the contributors of RADICAL SPIRIT act as prophets for tomorrow by courageously sharing the light and darkness of their lives here and now.

Reading this book made me feel at home.

A volume which highlights spiritual and social awakening
Stephen Dinan's Radical Spirit gathers writings by almost thirty pioneers and visionaries with different views of modern spirituality, from Sadhvi Bhagwati to Julia Butterfly Hill and others. Buddhist, Wiccas, and a range of practitioners in-between are represented in a volume which highlights spiritual and social awakening alike.

History for budding historians
I thought this book would be well over the head of my five-year-old son; it has more words on each page than he's used to (because it is geared for the young reader). This book is so well written that it kept his attention throughout. And when he realized that this was someone he had heard of, he was hooked. Now he wants to know about all the presidents. (He doesn't realize how many of them there are!)

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to start their child down the path of enjoying history.

Wonderful introduction to history
Although I expected this book to be well over the head of my 5-year-old son, he loved it. It was an interesting book that held his attention on its own merits. The pictures, although not as many as he was used to, helped the story along. But when he learned that this was a book about a real person, someone he had heard of, he was thrilled. He's asked me to get him more books about real people. I definitely will.

A children's classic
If you love your young children who are just learning about history, you owe it to yourself and to them to rush and press the order button for this classic kids' book. Lushily and lavishly illustrated, this wonderful tome details the true story of the man who would become the first president of the United States. This book is an excellent start for any young man or woman to get a grip on the early history of our great country. I am choked up as I write these words because I know this incredible book will become an heirloom that I will pass down from generation to generation. This powerful, and moving testiment to the formation of our land will never be forgotten by this impressed reader. It's simply one of the most wonderful books ever written and I thank God for its existence.

stayed with me
I am only writing this review because it is the first book I ever read. At the age of 5 or 6 or 7 it was the beginning to what would become a lifetime of walking around with a paperback in the back pocket of my jeans. I remember quite a bit of it vividly, even now, 40 years later, especially Ken Ward trying not to throw that final low inside pitch to the slugger on a 3 and 2 count. I have never re-read it, but it stays with me still.

If you like baseball, you will love this story...
I had a hard time putting this book down. Zane Grey has the feel for what it is really like to be a college baseball player, along with all of its struggles and victories. This is a great story with a great ending. You too will enjoy this story about Ken Ward and all of his fellow teammates. In the end, you will be thoroughy satisfied. Great book!

A great book for anyone who has ever hit a baseball.
This book evokes vivid images of intercollegiate sports in the early 1900s. The characters are warm and well-developed. The setting is nostalgic and timeless. Readers will puzzle over "Frosh on the fifth" and chuckle over the potato toss. The reader can feel the despair when Ken finds out what he has done to the Captain of the college baseball team, and feels his chances of making the varsity squad slip away in an instant. No one can keep from laughing out loud when the perfume is spread or the sweater put on. The combination of setting, characters and good old-fashoned baseball makes for very pleasant reading.

Personally, I recommend this book be read every Spring in anticipation of the upcoming baseball season, such as I have done for the last twenty-three years. It is a wonderful way to get in the mood for great battles on the ball diamond, as well as recapture the joys of youth. Reading this book could become as much a pastime as baseball itself.

Young adult readers will find this book interesting and fun. Parents will appreciate the role model of young Peg Ward, whose standards of conduct are the highest, even when faced with peer pressures, not unlike those of today.

The story of Abraham Lincoln from birth to the teenage years
"Abe Lincoln: The Young Years" tells the story of the future President from his birth in a cabin at Sinking Springs Farm in Kentucky in 1809 until he was a teenager storyteller in Pigeon Creek, Indiana. Author Keith Brandt covers the most significant episodes in the life of the young Lincoln, using them as evidence for how a "poor backwoods boy grew up loving people, the land, and the law." Each two-spread spread includes an illustration by John Lawn, who takes the trouble to show a lot of things I have heard about Lincoln's life but never seen, such as the half-faced camp the family lived in when that first winter in Indiana and the sleeping loft for Abraham and his sister Sarah to have their own "room." Consequently, this book will teach young readers something about life on the American frontier in the early 1800's as well as all about the life of one of the nation's greatest Presidents. Of course, stopping where it does, "Abe Lincoln: The Young Years" will only want them to read about what happened after this book ends.

This book is well written, with good illustrations.
...The illustrations opened up discussions about what life was like in the United States in the 1800's. The familiar Lincoln lessons about working hard and succeeding in the face of adversity are well-presented.
