This book is a must read for students (and teachers). Each short chapter describes different black inventors (men and women). The easy to follow writing will keep a student interested with its combination of personal information, facts about their inventions and facts about issues related to that time period. Find answers to the time period in which blacks were not even allowed to receive patents, which black inventors worked with Thomas Edison and why George Washington Carver never saw his mother again.

"Pinky peed!"
I can't believe I'm the first customer to review this Pinky and Rex book. My boys think this is the funniest book of the year: Pinky actually pees his pants in school! There's a puddle and everything. Funny realistic dialogue. If your kids think pee-pee is funny (and don't all kids?), they'll LOVE this book.

The compositions if the greatest Romanticist ever
The Romantics redefined english literature, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge was one of the leaders. Between he and William Wordsworth, they WERE the movement. His vision, and glorified writing style still tantalize me to this day.

A portrait of the artist as a young man : a facsimile of epiphanies, notes, manuscripts, & typescripts
Published in Unknown Binding by Garland Pub. ()
Author: James Joyce
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

It changed my whole life.
In my past I have failed to examine the habitat of human nature in general. A Portrait of the Artist as a young man offered me the knowledge of religion and art tied in with the overwhelming story of a boy growing up. I found that James Joyce's writing was not only inspiring but also challenging. I found myself in the shoes of Stephen Dedalus, and truly believe in the traumatic story of his struggles in life in comparison with my own.

Great
This is a fantastic sampling of Wolfe's work. Some parts I have re-read countless times. Wolfe is among the best writers we have. (And this book is nonfiction...which is why I'm glad his next book will be nonfiction).

A 10!Inside story of 1 of world's greatest feats in aviation
For the first time, the exciting inside story of the breaking of the sound barrier as told by Chuck Yeager and his X-1 team members. World renowned stunt pilot Bob Hoover was Yeager's chase pilot that fatefull morning. It is a beautifully illustrated book with 125 photos, many from the authors private collections that have never been seen by the public or published before. It also includes a chapter on famous aviatrix and motion picture stunt pilot Pancho Barnes and her Happy Bottom Riding Club. Pancho offered a free steak to the first man to break the sound barrier (Mach One) and Yeager collected that steak on Oct. 14th 1947. Pancho's Club was the fraternity house for the test pilots, where they could share lessons learned in flying the new jets and to celebrate surviving for one more day

It is a brilliant saga of dedication to duty, team work, camaraderie, technical brilliance, unmatched flying skills and heroism. These men are true heroes and role models for todays youth.

Reconsidering American Liberalism: The Troubled Odyssey of the Liberal Idea
Published in Paperback by Westview Press (1996)
Author: James P. Young
Amazon base price: $41.00
Used price: $12.57
Average review score:

An extensive, intense, and superb treatise.
The book goes historically through American Political Thought, and I would be hard-pressed to think of anything too important that Young leaves out. He shows a remarkable intensity, his writing style is clear and concise, if a bit too technical for anyone who wants a _quick_ read on the topic (not that a quick read on this topic is possible in any case.) He is, however, not _so_ technical that mainstream audiences should be put off. Quite the contrary, the book is more accessible to mainstream audiences then it needs to be; Young could have gotten away with writing only as an academic, but, because he cares about our Republic as well as academia, he writes in a style accessible to both mainstream and academic audiences. The only flaws I can find are in Young's optomism in the final pages, and his treatment of race. He paints a bleak portrait of our republic, and then seems to cop out a little at the end. This is, however, minor. His treatment of race shows an uncharacteristic niavatee (is that the right spelling) and a far too willing embrace of race neutral solutions to the problem of race. This is something more then a minor quibble, but this problem, however blatant, does not detract from the excellence of the work as a totality. Brief summary: Young challanges various prevailing interpretations of American political thought, and argues that, while many other commentators have it partly right, they all miss the fact that the forces that drive U.S. politics stem from a plurality of sources. Namely, an individualistic tradition, a Protestent religious tradition, and a secular community-oriented tradition.
