A Nice Addition to A Christian Home
This is a lovely Bible. The colorful graphics, page layouts, and inserts are appealing to the younger age groups (adults too) and really draw the reader in. The language is clear, easy to read, and easy to follow especially if you are familiar with the traditional KJV. I took one look through it at my local Borders and just had to take it home with me. If you have children, this would make an especially nice gift Bible (I wish I had received one like this back then). I would also recommend this Bible to youth group leaders or youth Bible study groups. As a former youth group leader, this would have been my Bible of choice. The only thing I would recommend to the publisher, if a second edition comes out, is to include maps. I make constant reference to them when I read, and it would be a good way to start teaching youth the Biblical geography we hear so much about in the news today. Otherwise, I really like this Bible. Buy it and enjoy.

Great For Young Adults Who Want To Fully Get Into God's Word
The NJKV Extreme Bible is the best Bible that I've seen for young adults between the ages of 18-30 who want to fully get into the Word of God.

I'm a youth leader at my church and I find this Bible to be extremely useful for me to use when I am ministering to young people. I've also found that this particular Bible has helped me to get closer to God.

The NJKV version is very easy to understand and there are special features in this Bible that help you to get as deep inside the Bible as you can.

People profiles give you specific information about specific people who stood a head above the rest to change their world.

What's It Mean? notes give you yte-sized information on specific words or phrases you read about that might not be as obvious today as they were in the culture of Bible times.

There are also other notes that point out promises that God makes in the Bible and ways that He calls us to live 'On The Edge' through faith that pushes us to trust God in the extreme.

There is also a Quick Reference Index which is the place to turn when you need God's answers to your questions. Look up your question by topic in the front of the Bible, then find the answer at the Bible book, chapter, verse location listed. The questions are also repeated in the Bible text next to their answer.

There are handy Reading Plans in the back of the Extreme Bible. These plans give you suggestions for what to read every day to cover the Bible in a year. However, there are also other Reading Plans as well, such as:

30 Days With Jesus - if you have ever asked yourself, 'I wonder what Jesus would do?', then you can find out by following this reading plan, by taking a month to read the story of Jesus.

60 Days With Paul - After you've read 30 Days With Jesus, it is a really good idea to learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus by spending '60 Days With Paul'.

90-Day Overview Of The Bible - This plan takes you through the major events of the Bible without you reading the entire book.

Finally, there is also an 'Extreme Index' which makes it easy to find what you're looking for! The most important contents in the notes and articles are arranged alphabetically by subject, which every topic you could imagine from Abuse through to Worship. Whatever your need is, this easy-to-use feature helps you zero in on the Biblical advice and insights you want, fast!

This is definitely not a Bible for the faint-hearted! Are you up for the challenge? If you are, then you should definitely purchase this Bible - you won't be disappointed!

Learn God's Word!
I love this Bible for the fact that it has easy refrences. It is extreamly easy to follow. It gives detailed back grounds for some of the most well known characters in the Bible. It is great if you are trying to learn or preach the word.

This book is a parenting "bible"!
This book is informative. It is concise, and easy to read. It gives many helpful examples. It also gives great deal of alternatives for difficult situations you find yourself in with your children. It has many ideas which are similar to "Children the Challenge." Another very helpful book. I started using the ideas of this book and saw immediate results in my children and myself.

Great Parenting Tools
This book is an easy to read book that can add some very helpful tools to your parenting "tool belt". I facilitate effective parenting classes and use this book as the text book.

This book is why we have a great kid!
We give this to every prospective new parent without fail because it is THE BEST. No other way to put it. Our 8 yr old is an incredible kid because she can talk to us, we can talk to her, we all understand how to comunicate and understand each other, and what to do when we don't. It has helped us through deaths, moves, toilet training, fears, "bad" friends, school, misbehaviors, social situations, etc. There is a special place in the afterlife for these authors. They have made our family a success. The dialogue will sound contrived and phony to readers at first, but please trust us when we say-IT WORKS! Now it seems as normal as can be, and is the only way I will ever interact with a child (or certain adults!)from now on!

Thames Doesn't Rhyme With James Review
The Book "Thames Doesn't Rhyme With James" was pretty good. It is about a girl who is going to London, England with her family and another family and a boy she likes- Frank. They go to a lot of GREAT places! They don't want to go to the places that their parents would like them to, so they make their parents go to all the places they want to.READ READ READ!

Wow....
I really can't *believe* how good this book is. I must of read it 5 times in a week!
When Kendra goes to England, a "prize" for a scavanger hunt that she did along with her boyfriend Frank and brother O.K, she didn't know what to expect (her life is full of "what-ifs" which are listed in the book) but she *really* didn't expect what happened!
For one thing--this isn't a prize--it's a repeat! She hopes to be able to spend some time alone with Frank, who, as I mentioned, is her boyfriend, but lives in a different state than her,but they end up baby-sitting not ONLY O.K. but two other kids in another savanger hunt around London (sheesh...I still need to read the first one)!
They are having a terrible time with their "prize"...read the book to see what happens!

Thames

Plus they jusst planned the Serindipity Winter and now therwe are 2 more serindippidees, Emma age 8 and Colin age 10 that they have to keep an eye on during there winter. The Winter Hero
Great book by the Collier Brother's. Nuff said

The Winter Hero by James L. Collier, Christopher Collier
The Winter Hero was narrated by Justin Conkey, a 13 year old boy who wants to be a hero. His father was killed in the Revolutionary War, and his sister's husband was a Revolutionary War hero. This story takes place after the Revolutionary War in 1787. Farmers were angry about the taxes the Boston government made them pay, so they started a war against the government. This war was called the Shays' Rebellion. Justin wants to fight in the war, but will he become a hero?

This book was very inspirational to me because a boy my age wanted to fight in a man's war. Most kids his age in the United States today don't have as many rasponsibilities as Justin did then. I admire this character. The story was like a history lasson because I already knew about the Revolutionary War, but I didn't know about Shays' Rebellion. I strongly recommend The Winter Hero to people who like action, suspense, and history.

"Outstanding!"
"This book is a wonderful, educational book that I never set down. It is full of action and thrilling excitment! I truely enjoyed it!"

A Typically Victorian Erotic Novel
Yet it stands out from all the other similar books by the sheer heat that radiates from the writing. Emily is promised in marriage to a man she does not desire, so she runs away and ends up at the house of an hospitable couple who engage in sexual daliances with their staff as well as guests. Emily and her sister decide to stay and do their best to keep Emily's finace away from her. (plot summary #10) This is a book worth reading if you can find it... hot eroticism in true victorian style!

An erotic tale of seduction ...
Although generally published as 'Anonymous' this James Jennings novel follows a very very traditional Victorian erotica style in that we have (and so do most of the charters in the book) a young Emily forced to marry the foppish son of a wealthy landowner to supposedly save her parents from the poorhouse ....

Emily, as a product of her times, certainly does not seem surprised by the fact that the young girls in her realm are the sexual targets for both family and non family members alike ... Of course like all good Victorian girls she certainly doesn't seem to bothered by this and, after learning what she likes, Emily goes out of her way to find 'distractions' ...

Fair warning .... As an unabashed fan of Victorian erotica I certainly enjoyed this book, but, I would imagine that for the first time reader i6t may be a bit of a drag ......

A very useful reference
I found very useful the way thermal conductivity was approached. I was used to solve simple problems by means of "Temperature response charts". Now it is possible to use formulas instead of graphs.

Excellent source of information on heat transfer
A must read for all Chemical and Mechanical engineers. Exhaustice source of information and knowledge

The Life and Work of Oscar Micheaux: Pioneer Black Author and Filmmaker

Ahead of His Times
Oscar Micheaux was born in 1884 and from childhood seemed to be driven to be different. Throughout his life he wore many professional hats; he was a successful farmer and author. But perhaps his most well known accomplishments were as a filmmaker. There is a fair amount of misinformation about Micheaux which this book clarifies and corrects. For example, he was not the first Black filmmaker; however, he was one of the most prolific Black filmmakers of his time with an impressive number of silent films and quite a few sound films. He was able to accomplish this in spite of a national recession and eventual depression, harsh and uncooperative censor boards, limited venues in which he as a Black filmmaker could show his films, financial hardship, and harsh criticism. Still Micheaux's innovative promotion skills, coupled with his tireless efforts helped him survive and continue producing films.

The most fascinating aspect of this book was the fact that many of the issues being faced by Micheaux and other filmmakers during his time are quite similar to those of filmmakers today. Debates about how it is the responsibility of African American filmmakers to produce quality work depicting African Americans only in their most positive light were perhaps more heated in the 1920's than they are today. This heated debate was a particular issue to Micheaux because much of his work included controversial themes and not so positive images of African Americans. While the masses of African Americans seemed to enjoy and support his work and the themes he discussed, the critics and intellectuals of his day often took issue with it.

This book paints a historical overview of the times in which Micheaux lived as well as broad overview of his life and accomplishments. For the most part, this book was an easy read packed with lots of information, but there were times when some of the technical jargon was difficult for a person who has not studied film to understand. Still I highly recommend this book for anyone that would like to learn more about a pioneer in Black film.

The Life and Work of Oscar Micheaux: Pioneer Black Author an
Decades before film directors Spike Lee, John Singleton or even Gordon Parks showed audiences that blacks can be more than just cut-out characters and racial punch lines, visionary film director Oscar Micheaux had made movies featuring African-American cowboys, adventurers, detectives and millionaires --- more than 70 years ago.

"The Life and Work of Oscar Micheaux" became the subject of late author Earl James Young's graduate thesis because he was an admirer of Micheaux's pioneer spirit. Micheaux was the first filmmaker to offer his audience a range and diversity of African-Americans in film. Micheaux became a controversial figure raising the ire of blacks as well as whites for filming what he wanted, not what others felt he should.

Micheaux fought an uphill battle to get his films shown. White distributors would not market films by blacks, so Micheaux was only allowed to show his films at African-American theaters. In addition, Hollywood jumped on the African-American band wagon and created African-American films superior in quality to Micheaux's and other Indy filmmakers. Micheaux stayed with it but struggled until his death in 1951.

Young dedicated his research to Micheaux life, because he understood the pain of having a gift, but lacking the opportunity to give one's all to a career. However, Young died in 1993 of a brain tumor before publishing his thesis into a book.

With the permission of Young's family, Dr. Beverly J. Robinson has edited Young's thesis into a compelling and essential book for up and coming filmmakers and movie buffs about Micheaux's 40 plus films which made him hero to some and a victim to others. "The Life and Work of Oscar Micheaux" includes a complete filmography of Micheaux's films and bios of the actors who appeared in Micheaux's films --- some such as William Fountaine and Evelyn Preer who went onto star in Hollywood productions.

An incredibly warm approach to an easy reader!
Even the illustrations are beautiful, and make you feel good. Mr. Young is definitely an author to keep your eyes on. Previous books include 'The Cows Are In the Corn", by Scholastic, and 'Every Day", by Little, Brown.

So Cute!
This books is so cute! It's about a child who drops a favorite toy in the middle of the night and fears it is lost. Daddy comes in, finds the toy rabbit, and a-lays the child's fears that he will protect them from what ever "monster" the child fears may aspire to steal the bunny. This books is a lot of fun to read aloud -- lots of fun places to use animated voices.

Daunting but Delightful
My quirky yet brilliant English teacher assigned this work in the beginning of my senior year. Undoubtedly, I approached this book with much doubt and skepticism. If you know Hardy, you immediately recall his superfluity of detail and monotonous landscaping, which inevitably impedes character and plot development. Suprisingly, though all discouraging factors were present, I found the book exceptionally appealing. Hardy's portraiture of Tess validates him as a captivating author. He draws us into her persona, leaving us trampled and bruised with the grievances of life. He walks us through her struggles, though mangled with her inability to step forward, she still persists.
I highly reccommend this book to any avid reader of British literature.

The novel for the realist
A true joy to read, Tess of the D'Urbervilles is filled with situations that paint pictures of real life. Hardy knew that Tess' reality was filled with enough emotion and drama that there was no reason to add to it the things fairy tales are made of.

When reading Tess of the D'Urbervilles you are brought into the story by Hardy's suberb way of sketching the scene. Though Hardy's descriptive writing can sometimes be hard to digest, his choice of words allow you to enter the landscape and smell the glen yourself.

Overall, an excellent book for the more ambitious reader, and for the one who isn't afraid of the less popular unhappy outcomes.

A great book!
This is truly one of Hardy's best books! The story is of a young girl (Tess) who's father finds out that he comes from the old great family of the D'Urbervilles. So the family sends Tess to one of their relations to ask for money but also Tess' mother knows that at the house where she is going to be staying there is a man named Alec and she hopes that Tess and he will marry. Alec is tempted by Tess and seduces her after she has been working at his house for a while. Tess has the baby which soon dies. Tess goes to a dairy farm where she meets Angel, a higher class well edgucated young man. These two fall in love and marry. On their wedding night he confesses to her a bad part of his past and she tells him about her child. Angel can not forgive her and leaves. I will stop here beacause I do not want to ruin the book for you, but I will say this it has a whollop of a finish and you will be surprised!
