Discover your child reading
Great book for children aged approx. 10-15. I have already purchased and given a few to friends' sons (and daughters). They were purchased as Easter gifts rather than another chocolate bunny. I have received very positive feedback from them and delights me that these children are reading and enjoying it. I plan to purchase a few more for others so they keep reading during the school summer vacation. Since I have purchased and given quite a few, I thought I should read it also. Although I am quite older than the designated market for this book, I did enjoy reading it and it reinforced my purchasing decision.

Great for teachers!
TEACHERS CHECK THIS OUT! This book is excellent! I am a teacher of at-risk high school students and finding curriculum that is both educational and interesting to these students is difficult, to say the least. I started off by reading a very long story called, "Perfect Angels" (a story about babysitting). It not only held their attention for the 20 minutes it took to read the story aloud but you should have heard the discussion group questions at the end! This is the first time I have seen at-risk students say they actually liked a story I read them. Poe's short stories and the works of other adults who write for kids do not do these kids justice. What they like to read is stories about kids just like them. This book is just that: stories written by high school students all over the country. It is a high-school teacher's dream come true. These books are not only great for high-school kids, but Merlyn's Pen also publishes books for many ages from 8th grade on up.

A triple drama...!
This book is so fun to read! There's a triple drama of Rosie, her mother, and her best friend, all of them dealing with their love lives. Rosie's attempt at getting Harry's attention, convincing her best friend that dating a potato man is not a good idea, and permanently hooking up her mother all mingle in to create a humorous and fun book. I definitely recommend it!

Malting and Brewing Science : Hopped Wort and Beer (Volume 2)

This book will deepen your understanding of brewing.
This book is a wonderful update to what was covered by Jean DeClerk in the 1940's. What was emperically known at that time is more scientifically explained in this book which brings your brewing knowledge to a whole new level of understanding. The 'science' gets heavy in some parts, but if you really want to know, this is a fine book.

A Great Resource for Teachers
As a language Arts teacher, I am constantly searching for examples of student writing. Merlyn's Pen contains excellent examples of fiction, poetry, and personal essays. The stories are reproducible and I have used them in my classroom. My students enjoy the stories, and have been inspired to write and submit their own stories.

Dinosaurs just want to have fun
Og and Gargo are dinosaur skeletons in the museum, so naturally they don't get to go out much. Fortuanately for us, their friend Wendel, the museum guard, takes them out for a day of fun and surprise at the beach.

Charming illustrations and a witty text keep both children and parents happy to read the book over and over. Such a pity it's out of print!

The hack writer's secret stash
You'd think that this little volume would be perpetually available. See, some decades ago, The Writer (which I have always found to be both more folksy & more useful than Writer's Digest) put out this book, by an editor who had for years kept a list of "if I ever see one of these again I'm going to rip my own head off" plots. That was in the 1940s, which becomes significant in a moment.

Oddly enough, if you're a fan of the classic Twilight Zone, you'd spot the echoes to many of Henry Slesar's incredible plots. And that's the secret: some of us have been pilfering this book for years!! (Bwaa-ha-hahaha.) Though I have no proof that Slesar did this, he certainly might have done as we did: start laying out the plot, wait until your audience is half asleep, then start slipping in quirks, twists, & oddnesses.

Excuse me. I have to write another letter to The Writer, alternately haranguing & begging them to reprint this....
