Fascinating look at a fascinating actor.
My interest in Irish theatre brought me to this book. What a find! A fascinating look at a fascinating actor. The author brings alive the work and times of MacGowran. A well-researched and thorough work recommended for any student of theatre. I was especially impressed with the variety of interview subjects. Made me do a search for MacGowran's available work on video. While not a big fan of Beckett, I was impressed by the relationship between the playwright and this ultimate interpreter of his works.

A meticulously researched, carefully written documentation
Compiled and analyzed by Mormon scholar Gary James Bergera (Director, Smith-Pettit Foundation, Salt Lake City, Utah), Conflict In The Quorum: Orson Pratt, Brigham Young, Joseph Smith is a meticulously researched, carefully written documentation of the manifold disagreements between various strong-willed and devout leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, (popularly known as the "Mormons") during its first turbulent years of existence. Looking at how conflicts between diverse leaders had significant and enduring effects upon LDS doctrine, policy, and organizational structure, Conflict In The Quorum is an impressive body of scholarship which presents an astutely written and insightful account that can be read with considerable interest by both academic scholars and non-specialist general readers alike.

good book for info on growing up
This is a book that is about growing up and what happens to you sexually. It has the name that it does (Created By God) because it gives a Christian view towards sexuality and growing up. Even if you are not Christian you still could enjoy this book for the information in it. WARNING: this is not a story book so if you are looking for a story book this is not it. I think it is a good book because it gives the information in a very matter of fact way and it has good information that will make growing up easier because you know what is to come and know what to do when it does come. It has things that you might want to know but are too embarrassed to ask someone. It is for both girls and boys. Another book like this is Its Perfectly Normal but that one does not have a Christian viewpoint and is not as kid friendly as this one is.

A Book Like No Other!
I must say that The Development, Nutrition and Management of the Young Calf is one of the best books I have ever bought. I am Dairy Science major at the University of Vermont and have always been dissapointed when trying to find factual books that pertain to the Dairy Industry. It is even harder to find books that are specific to an area like neonatal calves. Dr. Davis and Dr. Drackley have done a tremendous job detailing specific information about raising dairy calves. The authors do an excellent job describing the anatomy of the digestive system of the calf, describing energy requirements and metabolism of nutrients. Of course like any good calf book should do they talk about the importance of colostrum and saniatry housing. The book is referenced throughout, giving the reader the oppurtunity to do further more in depth reading at another time. I described this book as having the meat of multiple research papers, but as enjoyable to read as Hoard's Dairyman magazine. This book is so detailed and easy to read that a semester long college course could be esily developed from it. A Must read if your in the Dairy business!

My Prescription - Dr. History!
I first heard of Dr. History when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. During my morning commute, I often listened to KNBR's morning show, hosted by Frank Dill and Mike Cleary. A frequent feature was a brief talk about some little-known anecdote from California's past. This was presented by Jim Rawls, who was dubbed "Dr. History" by Frank & Mike. The stories were always short, but interesting.
Jim Rawls has placed that format into book form, very successfully.
The stories are still short -- good for a quick bedtime story to a child or for that brief reading time in the quietest room in your house.
Following each story, Rawls has a section called "Something More", where he encourages you to go somewhere to experience history for yourself. (Most of the locations are in the Bay Area.)
I highly recommend this book, especially for parents who are hoping to get their kids interested in history.

My twins LOVE this book
I picked this book up at a Goodwill, and it has been one of my twins favorite books. They love the repetition of the words 'Every day'. As a mom I do wish to book had not dodged the potty issue by saying "just a minute please". Since that is part of a child's every day, it could have been dealt with in a better manner. But overall a good book.

Eye on Korea: An Insider Account of Korean-American Relations (Texas A & M University Military History Series, 88)

A Fresh Look at Contemporary Korean-American Relations
James Young, one of the American military's first area specialists, has written what may well be the most interesting and definitive book on recent Korean-American diplomatic and military relations in print today. Young, a former Army Colonel, spent almost 20 years in Asia, including 14 in Korea, where he was an advisor to five American ambassadors and several Secretaries of Defense. In this appealing memoir, he writes with the expertise of an old Korea hand.

After four years of training in Korean language and culture, Young was a first hand witness and participant as American diplomats convinced South Korean President Park Chung-hee not to develop his own nuclear weapons. The lessons from this experience might well be of use today in dealing with North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

From the perspective of a military attache,Young provides new insights into the intrigue and behind-the-scenes efforts to derail President Jimmy Carter's troop withdrawal policies. His on-the-scene account of the military coup of 1979, and subsequent events, is extraordinarily authoritative and comprehensive, and provides new information for historians. He provides personal observations on the imposition of martial law and the Kwangju incident that followed, when Korean military forces ran amok during protests in the city and killed and wounded hundreds of civilians. For the first time, he details how the United States was caught flat-footed, and how policy makers at the time failed to respond, thus sowing the seeds of anti-Americanism in the years to come.

Additionally, Young's insider account of dealing with the senior leadership in North Korea in both diplomatic negotiations and business settings makes a major contribution to understanding the internal dynamics within this secretive state.

"Eye on Korea" is a great mixture of contemporary military and diplomatic history. It offers stories that are entertaining, provocative, and often humorous. Those interested in the region, the issues, and modern Korea will value this book.
