Keeps me coming back....again.....and again.....and again...
I had some time in the last year to peruse astrology's past and present. It wasn't until I chanced across Jeff Green's work that I knew astrology had a future!!!

Not an easy breezy book...
read this book if you want to delve into spiritual/psychological translation of these powerful chart symbols as related to your soul's direction and potential growth. As an ametuer astrologer this book stretched my understanding of Pluto's influence on the soul and answered questions as to why a soul chooses the learning experiences it does. This books presents tools for understanding the .....why this, why me, why now questions that I know I want astrology to answer. It has not only given me insight to "me" but has helped me to better understand the people that are close to me.

surprised!
I was surprised by the information in this book. No astrology book has ever explained so clearly why some events have some difinate negative patterns in my life. Not only that, this book can tell you how you can overcome those difficulties. I could never imagine the planet "pluto" and Moon Nodes are so important in understaing one's life. If you're ready to face also the negative side in your life, then this book is the answer.

The Most Honest Writer-Larry Gatlin....
Books rarely hold my attention. Can't tell you how many I've started and put down. I started Larry Gatlin's book a few days ago and can't stop reading. Half-way thru the book, his re-telling of successes and failures have me grabbing for a kleenex every few pages. His reliance on God and coming back to God's grace are touching/inspiring. He gives God the credit for every moment that counts in his life that will connect to another open door (try to count how many times he writes, "another God moment.") His writing style is energetic, to the point, down to earth, honest - just as his personality is on stage. (I saw the Gatlin Brothers in concert in Kansas City 12/28/02). This book makes the reader rejoice as we watch him overcome alcoholism and substance abuse. Who wouldn't want Larry to win over these addictions, for his sake and his family's sake back home. He doesn't overdo the details but gives the full picture in few words. Keep the music coming Gatlin Brothers!

This book should still be in the stores!
I'm a Larry Gatlin fan. His book is written as well as his songs. I was captivated by his life story which he described in such down to earth, honest words. And it is so funny.
What a talent!

A MUST READ, EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A GATLIN FAN!
I've been around the music business for the past 30 years, I have NEVER seen an artist be this honest and open about the rise and the fall of ones career. Larry lays it ALL on the line and this should serve as a wake up call for those that can not handle "life in the fast lane". Larry's story is 24KT solid gold. A real must read from someone who has certainly been there, done that.

Baseball for adults
If every general manager in baseball (Ed Lynch, are you reading this! ) was forced to study this book, entire paradigms of baseball lore would suddenly be pushed aside in favor or fresh, rational, and rigorous principles of management. All of the statistics provided in the prospectus are, of course, second to none, but Michael Wolverton's relief ratings (ARP, ARA, etc.) are truly something special. I have always been amazed at how even the most "knowledgable" baseball minds accept simplistic statistics like ERA and saves as valuable appraisals of a relief pitcher's talents. It's as if the baseball gurus have failed to adjust to post-1950 baseball with its growing reliance on bullpens and decreasing reliance on starting pitchers, and the completely different conditions in which relief pitchers work in comparison to their starting compatriots. Yet these same "experts" have accepted without question the notion that a team must have a real "closer" in order to be a contender. Wolverton blasts these assumptions to smithereens with his analyses, and his elaborate calculations, yet pristine conclusions should revolutionize how the later innings of games are viewed. Throw in the authors' passionate defense of wise treatment of young pitchers, their funny yet consistently incisive comments about hundreds of players, their willingness to challenge age-old fallacies like "veteran leadership" and the genuinely historical perspective they bring to the table of baseball debate, and you have one of the most informative and entertaining baseball books I've ever read.

It'll Make You Smarter
BP debunks myths, explodes fallacies, and takes sabermetrics to a new height. It has an excellent method for evaluating and projecting performance, but many other credible methods can found elsewhere. BP's riches are found in the essays and player commentaries. Its insights will reshape the baseball debate in the coming years. Roster management, pitcher abuse, big markets v. small markets, tools v. skills -- the debates defining our age and the age to come are all discussed fully and insightfully here.

BP readers will in short time find themselves looking at baseball in a much more complex and accurate way. They will find themselves at greater and greater distance from the newsstand knowledge of those who rely on magazines and Baseball Weekly. They'll be better fans for having read BP. No other book provides so much. BP2K is the best value on the market.

best baseball annual going
Baseball Prospectus is a must-have for any hard-core baseball fan. These guys do a fantastic job of stripping away the nonsense and the myths and really analyzing the facts to come up with some really useful observations. Also, the manner in which they do it is fun, funny and engrossing; never just a cold statistical survey. All fantasy league players should buy this book immediately, but it will be a great read to any fan of the game.

Two paws up - WAY UP- by a cat-owner!!!
Having thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Selis' enchanting other book, "Dog Bless America", I was delighted to find this hidden gem. I found the dogs in this book to be every bit as adorable as the ones in his other book (Dog Bless America). I especially like the clever title. It took me a few seconds to do the math, but once I did, I HOWLED for two straight minutes! As a cat-owner(hi, Mittens!) I feel slightly guilty for having this book in my apartment. But in my heart, I believe even a cat would have a hard time not liking this wonderful, magical book!! God bless you, Jeff Selis, for your always-adorable dog pictures!

Canine Companionship
This book, Cat Spelled Backwards Doesn't Spell God, captures the true essence of canine companionship. It's sweet daily encounters with the dogs show the great characteristics a dog has. I recommend this book any dog lover. Lovely pictures and funny dialogues. Great gift or coffee table book!

The Ultimate Tribute to Dogs
No pictures of dogs wearing stupid hats or sunglasses, just wonderful photos and stories about real, marvelous dogs. I just purchased a fourth copy of this wonderful book to give as a gift to another dog-loving friend. Mr. Selis has captured each dog at its finest and luckily for us, he has shared them. Unlike other dog photography books, I read this one often. Thank you, Jeff.

The Children Are Free: Reexamining the Biblical Evidence on Same-sex Relationships
Published in Paperback by Jesus Metropolitan Community Church (02 April, 2002)
Authors: Jeff Miner, John Tyler Connoley, David Squire, and Rev. Jeff Miner
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Masterpiece
Setting aside its few inconclusive arguments, the book is one of the best summaries of current scholarship I've ever read.

Romans 1: The authors should have included a lot more information, particularly Jordan's phrase for phrase analysis and Townsley's work on parallelism. Despite these absences, the book does present a fairly clear interpretation of Romans 1 (heterosexuals engaging in gay sex during worship rituals to their god/dess)

Genesis 19: I think there are a few more points that the authors should have given in order to further their case, but despite this they shattered the notion that Sodom was punished for gay sex, or that any of their sins included such.

Leviticus 18-20: Authors conclude temple prostitution was prohibited, not general gay sex---Miner's work as a lawyer certainly helped him objectively view the context, but he and Connoley both leave out many powerful points that would have made their case so much stronger.

Cor. 6/Tim 1.: Although, as in other discussions, they leave out a few details that would further their case, the authors' presentation here is fantastic!---a fascinating, thoroughly review of translation methods that anyone unfamiliar with translation would benefit from reading.

In chapter Two, the authors go over the verses they believe to support gay relationships. Their analysis of David and Jonathan's relationship is very interesting, but not fully convincing. Their discussion of Ruth and Naomi is very speculative and the authors should have known better. Their discussion of the Eunuch literature was very convincing to me, as was their discussion of Jesus' encounter with a gay man, in which he implicitly blessed a gay relationship. So we have at least two Bible passages---both of which are from Jesus' own words---that are gay affirming.

Easy to read explanation of Biblical texts
This book presents in a very easy to understand and readable way a very accurate interpretation of the Biblical texts regarding homosexuality. Even its use of Greek words is not intimidating and they explain them clearly. They also present texts that are pro-homosexuality that are provocative and enlightening. This is a rare gift that this book brings to this topic. Many books in this area are very scholarly and difficult to read. Miner, et al, makes the interpretations clear for any average reader. You do not have to be a Biblical scholar or a linguist. Their presentation is done in a very readable way and does not condemn those who may disagree. It invites them to keep an open mind. For those who may have been bashed by Biblical texts on homosexuality, this book can bring a new vision and understanding into the value of Christian faith. It definitely is intended for those of a Christian background or understanding. For those who are interested in the Biblical questions and passages, this book is a valuable one to have in your library or to share with friends or family who have questions and are searching.

Different from the other books
Many books have argued that the Bible does not condemn same-sex relationships. In the vast majority of cases, however, the arguments sound like loopholes and excuses, not a sincere reading of Holy Scripture. (Sadly, this includes even the ever-popular "What the Bible Really Says About Homosexuality.")

This book is remarkably different! The authors don't make excuses or water down the text; instead, they take the Bible seriously and treat it respectfully, allowing the Bible itself to provide the best evidence for their case. Meanwhile, this book is so short, simple, and easy to read that anyone can benefit from it.

"The Children Are Free" is chock full of anecdotes and examples, making it a delight to read, even for people who don't normally read about the Bible. Those of us more familiar with the subject will appreciate the clarity of the authors' argument.

Other, similar books made me think, "Yeah, I guess I can see that," but this one left me wondering, "How could you come to any other conclusion?"

Excellent book for tracking down obscure songs
Now in an updated and expanded fifth edition with over 14,000 songs added (and featuring over 35,000 songs overall), The Green Book Of Songs By Subject is a comprehensive and very strongly recommended, "user friendly" reference for looking up popular songs by subject. Basic topics such as Freedom, Rivers, specific states and cities, etc. are listed in alphabetical order; each listing is followed by appropriate song entries arranged by title. An especially excellent book for tracking down the title, composer, or publisher of popular as well as obscure songs, The Green Book Of Songs By Subject is a core addition to the reference shelves of academic music history reference collections, and would prove invaluable in the personal reference libraries of professional musicians, DJ's or music-writers who can't afford to waste time struggling to remember (or needing to track down) who composed, performed, or produced a given tune.

With the ease of a dictionary and the magic of music
How many times does the fragment of a song go through your mind, or a phrase and you cannot think where it comes from? And even more, how often during a day do you think of a song again and again and you cannot recapture where you heard it or who sang it on the record. This Book is the answer to any music lover who forgets the title or author of a favorite song. I have used it to plan theme parties, since it lists songs by subject. I cannot imagine how they did the work and keep it so up to date, but this is a reference book for the professional, and for any music lover who has a headfull of songs and needs a hand remembering "Where have I heard that song before"
Don't even think about planning a wedding or a 50th anniversary or 21st brirthday with the Green Boook. It is a treasure!!...

Indispensable Music Reference
I just received the latest edition (5th) and am blown away by how comprehensive this book is. As a marketing professional, I consider it a competitive advantage and a wise business investment. At times, it's downright entertaining. I would love to see a pocket or "bathroom reading" edition. In the meantime, I'll haul it's comprehensive girth around with me wherever I "go." ;?) LOVE it. HIGHLY recommend it.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Left Hand of Destiny Book 1

Klinfans will like it!
It was with great anticipation but subdued expectations that I opened this book. From "Kahless" to the "Day of Honor" series, Pocket's occasional Klingon-themed novels have been largely disappointing. But "The Left Hand of Destiny" pleasantly surprised me! Not since "The Final Reflection" has there been such an impressive, truly KLINGON story, in which the reader actually feels immersed in that alien world. The authors were apparently permitted freer rein to develop the established Trek Klingon culture and characters for this dual-book series, even to the point of killing off one of them! Supporting characters from the TV series, such as Martok, the Kahless clone, and Alexander Rozhenko, get a chance to grow and shine. Federation favorites Worf and Ezri Dax get supporting roles, but also develop beyond their characterizations in canon. In my opinion the most favorably changed character is that of Martok's Mistress, Sirella. In her single DS9 appearance, Sirella was a petulant shrew who amused herself by inflicting passive-aggressive torment on her mate, whether by denying him her bed or "accidentally" allowing his favorite targh to escape. With little authority in Martok's House except over subordinate female members, she nagged her husband like a fishwife and bullied Jadzia Dax like a petty tinplated tyrant. She was seemingly lacking in Klingon honor (in attempting to impress Dax with her falsified "royal" pedigree), fighting-skill (in assaulting Dax with a knife and quickly finding herself disarmed and decked by the staggering-drunk Trill), or respect (in whining that Dax had attacked *her*)! But here, in "The Left Hand of Destiny", Sirella is transformed into a strong, even admirable character. In fact, the authors have taken extra care to imbue her with worthy traits. At first I found this departure from canonic continuity jarring, but I soon found myself appreciating this improved Sirella! Abducted from her guilded cage within the Chancellor's House, the Mistress emerges as a warrior in her own right. My gratitude to the authors for elevating the abysmal position of the Klingon Housewife! As Martok and his allies strike forth to rescue Sirella and avenge their fallen House, they swiftly realize they are embroiled in a heinous plot to conquer the entire Empire. And an epic saga unfolds which will take the heroes and the reader from the Imperial City to the Borath Monastery to the Cold of Space. Martok's challenge is as much an internal struggle with his own leadership capability as with his formidable foe. To prevail, he will need to trust in his sword arm, the power of Legend, and the aid of an ancient undefeated Goddess. I recommend purchasing this novel, together with its sequel, "The Left Hand of Destiny" Book Two. You won't want to wait overlong for the riveting conclusion.

ST-DS9: The Left Hand of Destiny: Book One
Star Trek - Deep Space Nine: The Left Hand of Destiny: Book One written by J.G. Hertzler and Jeffrey Lang is a book about Klingons and their vengence. This book is a very well-written novel giving the reader a good look into one character known as General Martok. The character development is excellent starting out with a dream sequence and working its way to the set-up for book two.

I found this book to be an enjoyable read with plenty of action-adventure, mystery and intrigue... only Klingon style to keep the readers interest engrossed to the ending. If you like books about Klingons and their ways of life this is the book for you will love this book. As Martok returns to the Klingon homeworld things aren't as they should be and this is where the adventure kicks into full throttle and doesn't disappoint the reader.

There is great character development with General Martok and his life as a Klingon soldier, also we get a glimpse into Martok's family both present and past. This is where the revenge takes off and doesn't end as Martok seeks to rectify the situation the only way he can... by himself. But, Martok has an ally on the planet in Lieutenant Commander Worf and together they take on Martok's bastard son who is in temporary control of the government and wants to see his father fail.

This is solid 5 star TREK adventure albeit Klingon style but nevertheless, this is a great look into one of the greatest war heros of the Klingon Empire... General Martok. Action-adventure is high, mystery and intrigue is high readability excellent... this is an adventure that is told well, a must enjoyable read.

This book truly has the spirit of Kahless within it!!
Besides being part of the DS9 relaunch / 10th anniversary series, this book is also a must-read for anyone interested in Klingons. In fact, it's probably the most important Klingon story written to date. It had me singing songs of victory at the end (see TNG: Birthright or maybe DS9: Way of the Warrior)! I am truly sad to see it end, but hopefully there will be some more good books involving these characters on the way!

Getting a life through stress management
This is a great book for ideas on how to get back control of your life. If you have a extremely stressful career like I do you'll love reading the different ideas in this book. Chapter 6 covers ways to fight burnout, figuring out when you're most productive & how to deal with work overload. Chapter 16 covers mastering your environment which has lots of ideas on how to deal challenges at home & work plus ideas on how to recharge your energy. This is a great book & well worth the money!

A unique approach to an old problem
Jeff Davidson presents a unique and very helpful approach to dealing with everyday stress. A well-written and easy to follow guide.

Wayne D. Ford, Ph.D., author of "Stress Management for Over-Achievers" docwifford@msn.com

Helpful
Although I would have liked to have seen more on the topic of burnout and maybe something on the stress of raising an unruly teenager there was a lot in here on stress that I hadn't considered before. There were also some approaches to managing stress that were new to me, and of course that's always appreciated. The little boxes on every page like what a concept, etched in stone, and warning were kind clever

Definitely worth reading (thank you Jeff)!
This book was recommended to me several years ago when I was going through some extremely horrible situations with coming out of a borderline cult and dealing with some of the radical movements and teachings that are out there these days.

The book really helped me sort out a lot of things and helped me understand the difference between trying to find life through our works (either 'positive' religious activities or 'negative' sinful fulfilment), and the realization that Christ is our true source life.

He also alludes to how we try to rely on other people as our source of life. We place great demands on our spouse, kids, and others and expect them to give us what only Christ can fulfill.

A true classic for getting away from the performance treadmill and learning the sufficiency and completeness of accepting Christ. I really ought to read it again.

Please get this book. I also recommend Dudley Hall's "Grace Works".

Bulls-eye
Has this guy been reading my mail? This book gets specific and deals with common scenarios--not just the way-out stuff. Six stars!

The Most Life Transforming Book I've Ever Read
The truth in this book freed me! This is the most life transforming book I have ever read. The author's style is very straightforward and very truth-telling. He does not just quote scripture, but his work is really Biblically based. But if you are not a Christian, it is for you too - not "preachy". I have new joy and peace, and am off the "try hard" treadmill, as a result of the truth I found in this book. If you have read other books, and are still "searching", this one is a must. I almost didn't get it because I have bought so many books on trying to enjoy life, but this one truly made the difference for me. I'll be rereading it and recommending it to everyone I know!

How To Avoid DJ Horror Stories: The Standard Reference Guide For Brides, Party Planners And Anyone Else In The Market For A Mobile Disc Jockey

Substituting opinion for fact
Mr. Harrison is probably a good mobile dj but he makes the mistake of assuming regional preferences (such as clients not wanting lighting) and that most weddings go 4 hours is true all over. More importantly, there are numerous occasions where he states his opinion as fact. If these were truly facts, there would be documentation to back them up. There is a lot of good advice in this book but it's mixed in with a lot of opinions and outdated information which the target audience would like have difficulty sifting through.

Must read for all brides and DJs too!
I love this book! As a DJ with 15 years in the business, the author has said what everyone else was afraid to say. This is the all-out truth about DJ myths and marketing. Highly recommend this book.

A "MUST HAVE" for anyone looking for a DJ!!
In such a vast field as DJ services, it nice to be able to find the true gems among the pack. This book was instrumental in helping me select a DJ for my wedding, and I was EXTREMELY pleased with the results. If you want to know how to identify a "line" when you hear one from a DJ, GET THIS BOOK!
