Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Catherine Daly-Weir has done an excellent job of presenting a general and yet fairly complete introduction to Heraldry. The illustrations are beautiful and attractive. Obviusly written for the younger reader, adults will enjoy just as well. If you are working on a club/class project and need to creat a Coat of Arms, this book and Rosemary Chorzempa's "Design Your Own Coat of Arms" are all you need! You will have no trouble creating your own Coat of Arms expecially with the plastic stencil which is included in the book. A must have!

The stencil alone is worth the price!
This book is written for a younger audience than, say Rosemary Chorzempa's Design Your Own Coat of Arms. While there might not be as much information included, what is included is presented very well. There are full-color drawings that will appeal to kids (and adults, for that matter!) and the explanations are clear and understandable. But truly the best thing about the book is the stencil. It includes many of the common images found on historical Coat of Arms. More importantly, the stencil is made from plastic, so it will withstand many tracings. Many times a stencil included with a book is made of heavy-duty paper or cardstock, but those just don't hold up to repeated use. This stencil is made of see-through green-tinted plastic, so it is easy to see exactly where to place the image you are tracing.

Wonderful educational book
This is a wonderful educational book, where the child can actually create his/her own coat of arms using the stencils in the back. The illustrations are also vibrant and beautiful!

A thorough book on public speaking
This book covers so many areas unaddressed by other books in the field that it belongs on the shelf of every speaker and would-be speaker. The author talks about critical issues such as how to determine if your topic will be demand, who will want to listen, how to inject humor into your presentations, and how to keep your audience awake and alert. The author draws up many experiences from his own speaking career, but also cites dozens and dozens of other speakers and what they do to be successful. The chapters on story telling, avoiding speaker mistakes, and working with meeting planners are quite simply invaluable.

WoW!
From "A to Z," The Complete Guide to Pubic Speaking presents the dos and don'ts of the speaking business. In this sense, "Complete" really means complete! An excellent guide for wannabee speakers and the pros!

Perfect Public Speaking...
So far, the best book on public speaking that I've ever encountered. This book takes you from selecting a topic to holding the audience in the palm of your hand. I have done a little public speaking but with this book I am inspired to do even more! Every single page of the 300+ pages is full of very useful recommendations. The first section on selecting a topic will be a gift to anyone who wanted to get up and speak before others but wasn't quite sure what he or she wanted to say!

Easy To Read !
Having to manage change in my division is one of my least favorite activities but learned from this book, if you are in management today, you pretty much are a change manager. This book has lots of chapters, more than 25. Each of them, fortunately is easy to get through. The book cites a lot of the change management gurus through the years and gives a good summary of their theories and why they remained popular. But in addition to theory, there is lots of practical advice in this book. All chapters end with a section on things that are worth remembering and are most important from the chapter. I like that, because time is short, and sometimes you just want to get the answers!

change manager
I was recently assigned a change management project in my own company for the firs time. I got on the Internet to see what books were out there an quickly identified several. I ordered the Complete Idiot's Guide to Change Management as well as four others. Each book has made their own special contribution to my overall understanding of what it takes to be successful as a change manager. This book in was the easiest to read and understand. Some of the other books made for difficult reading with all kinds of concepts and charts and extensive footnoting. By contrast, this one was a breeze to read, while not being overly simple or talking down to the reader. The chapters on leap frogging, scheduling days of grace, and managing up and
managing down were great. I would recommend this book for first time change managers or possibly even veteran change managers looking for new strategies and or/a motivational boost.

making it easier
Change management is a scary topic, so I was glad to see this book as an Idiot's guide. Like the author says, its' not a book about project management. It is a book about keeping your eye on the big picture of the change you have been asked to manage and how your activities fit into with the overall activities of your company. I like the part about the descriptions of other players including sponsors and targets of change. When you understand how these players participate with each other in a
successful change crusade then you have a much greater chance of succeeding. Overall, I found this book to be very non-threatening. That was important to me because change as a topic is already tough enough.

Condition Critical
As Zoey and Tristan continue to be completely clueless about thier growing love, Becky's boyfriend is in critical condition, hence the name of the book. Rick and his twin brother, Shane, are in need of the same heart-lung transplant. But when the organs become available- who will get them. I personally love everything that goes on between Tristan and Zoey. This book was remarkable!

A University Hospital Lover
I thought that this one was her best! It was a very gripping and suspensful.I could not put it down! This book would not be good for young readers because it has some adult matters ond concepts.

The tools for living a powerful, dignified life
I had the honor to have access to the contents of this book before it was ever published. Its teachings, together with the infinite compassion, patience, generosity, and wisdom of the author changed my life forever. Marta Monahan's gift to you is comparable to what a perfect set of parents and guides would teach you in an ideal world; comprehensive, practical yet spiritual, tools for a life of high standards. If I had only one self-help book in my shelves it'd be this one.

Bold, Funny and Refreshing.
This book is now required reading in both my home and office! Monahan's thesis is simple: Most of us spend a great deal of our time living in mediocrity and THAT is what causes the pain and dullness that many of us privately suffer. There is a very powerful exercise in the first chapter that makes it easy (and painful) to find the source of our own mediocrity -- and the rest of the book is about how to move out of it. Some may find this too tough and controversial because the focus is on personal responsibility and character, but Monahan is a gentle teacher who clearly is teaching from experience. Overall this book is tough yet charming, simple yet profound. The writing style is refreshing and smart for a self-help book -- this one is a gem and I am grateful for the message. After a few days of using the "Five Acts of Improvement" that Monahan writes about, I became addicted to improvement and everybody who knows me can see the difference.

You give yourself a gift when you read this book
It is easy reading and you discover things that are right there in front of you when Ms. Monahan graciously calls your attention to them and shines a new light. I am a better person for reading this book. I know that I have handled situations far better than I had before with some of the points that I have learned through reading this book. I have started making notes in the margins, it is a welcomed gift to whomever I have given it to. Do yourself a favor and get this for you and anyone you care about. Great book club book!

really really funny
a friend bought it for me and i couldn't stop laughing.. for anyone with a love for the "underdog" (or cow), a funny bone the size of montana, and/or just likes a good fight.

Hilarious
This book made me laugh all the way through. It is the story of Cow Tse-tongue, who leads the cows in a rebellion against being human fodder. There is a cd with the song attached, and it is really great. There is a version with words and without so you can karaoke yourself.

COWS WITH GUNS IS A CLASSIC !
Just bought Cows with Guns and have to say it is one of the funniest books on the market today. Anyone who loves COWS will love this book and CD song of the greatest Cow anthem ever! More power to Cow Tse Tongue !

Theory Made Practical
Books on creativity are often interesting to read but almost impossible to translate into practice. Not so with this book.

This book broadened my personal definition of creativity; it challenged me to consider creativity as a core competency in more than just innovation. Distinguishing it from other books that I have read, it focuses more on the specific outcomes of creativity instead of the sometimes mysterious process of creativity. It makes the often implicit skills involved in creativity much more explicit.

On a practical note, it serves as a toolkit with an array of different assessment tools, exercises, and suggestions for generative work that can be tailored to different organizational needs at different times. We're currently using these tools in a healthcare setting, but I think they could be equally well applied to a myriad of other settings.

This book has been a great addition to my business bookshelf - accessible, easy to read, and full of useful suggestions - I think of it as a user's guide to fostering and tailoring creativity in the work place.

Getting a Handle on Creativity
If you thought creativity was an elusive and muse-driven quality ascribed to only artistic types of people, this book will set you straight. Here is a tangible approach to making creativity work for you and your organization. It will help you assess your needs, select the most effective practices for your situation and identify the people you need for successful implementation. The straightforward format and accessible language makes this a practical handbook for any level of manager or consultant in organizations large and small.

Creative Work vs. Just a Job
Creativity at Work is a must read for anybody who wants their job to be more than just work. It surveys all of the elements of an organization and then clearly supports the reader on his/her professional journey with the necessary tools to attain results. It's well-written, easy to read and tells all of the stories one needs to stimulate their creativity and own ideas. It is the only book that I have read and finished believing that I could now add value to the folks I work with in innovative and concrete ways.

Dradin, in love : a tale of elsewhen & otherwhere (Buzzcity First Editions)
Published in Unknown Binding by Buzzcity Press ()
Authors: Jeff VanderMeer and Ann Kennedy
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $195.20
Average review score:

Illusions shattered
Dradin in love is a profoundly disturbing excavation into the destruction of one man's desires. Dradin finds more about himself than he wishes to know, with unforeseen results. The victorian ouvre of the story gives the beginning a kind of naivete, and the deconstruction of that naivete through startling revelations seems to be the driving force behind the plot. This is an excellent read, written in a style largely indistinguishable from Victorian/Edwardian novellas. The internal illustrations are excellent and add to the surreality of the story, rather than diverting attention away from the plot.

A sensitive, thoughtful and delirious fantasy.
I'm quite a jaded fellow when it comes to reading fantasy. I read too much of it when I was a lad. So now something has to be really special to invoke the same sense of wonder I felt as a hearty youth. Milorad Pavic can still do it, always; Italo Calvino, mostly; Jack Vance, often; Fritz Leiber, sometimes; maybe a few other names -- James Branch Cabell, Mervyn Peake, Clark Ashton Smith... and Jeff VanderMeer. He's one of the few bright lights currently burning in fantasy writing. And he's young, so whereas I'm enjoying the grave-lights or sunsets of the other figures on my list, VanderMeer is providing me with a dawn. Dradin, In Love is a superbly atmospheric work which succeeds in mapping a shadowy, almost Kafkaesque city landscape which has expelled cliche beyond the furthest suburbs. VanderMeer pulls off what I see many fantasy writers (especially here in the UK) failing to do. Yes, he's one to watch out for, and he deserves to be more widely read.

An under-read gem--You won't be disappointed
What I loved most about this short novel was not the lifelike main character or the fascinating world in which he lives, but the writing itself. The author Jeff Vandermeer is obviously a lover of words and you can tell that he pined over every one in this book. I often found myself re-reading whole sentences and paragraphs just for the appreciation. Keep an eye out for this guy.

Get them reading!
I could not believe my 7-year-old son's reaction to this book. We've read a lot of books together, but I've never seen him act like this before. I read Dragon Breath to him. Then, for the FIRST time ever, he picked it up and read it himself. Again and again! I loved seeing the beginning of a love for reading. Now if I can just find other books that he loves as much...

A great book for early readers
This is the type of book kids love to read! It is a little spooky and a great adventure. My 7 year old son really enjoyed it. He reads it over and over again. The "Eek! Stories to make you Shriek" series is a very good way to create an interest in reading to your child.

Highly recommend this book.
I bought this book to read to my 4 year old. He LOVED it. It has just the right amount of suspense and "scare" to capture the imagination but won't cause nightmares.
