The cosmos expands
An amazing tapestry of stories, some small, some large, but all full of deep insights. Chances are, you won't notice all of them in the first reading, because the stories are so gripping. But read everything a second time, and you may find a lot of points, that you overlooked.

The longest story 'A Dalliance with the Damned' is among other things a fine hellish version of 'Dangerous liaisons' (pleasure and pain and all that jazz ...) but how Carey pulls off the final twist in this setting is truly amazing.

Nevertheless my favorites are the free-standing stories 'The ancestral deed' (how would Adam and Eve behave if the creator had a different set of rules?) and 'The Thunder Sermon' where the dark side of the Lightbringer is shown in truly terrifying grandeur. Rebelling against God may be hard, but doing a better job, now that's a completely different story ...

Presents supernatural creatures as all too human
Based on characters created and/or reinterpreted by Neil Gaiman's acclaimed "Sandman" comic book series, Lucifer: A Dalliance With The Damned is the third volume and is comprised of issues 14-20 of the Eisner Award nominated "Lucifer" comic book series, offering a graphic and full color tail of demon rivalry and motives at cross purpose. The monstrous children of Lilith, forever denied the Garden of Paradise despite their lack of relation to original sinners Adam and Eve, mount a war of rebellion and conquest in this dramatic and occasionally risque tale, suggested for mature readers. A fascinating page turner that presents supernatural creatures as all too human, sharing few virtues many vices with their mortal counterparts, Lucifer: A Dalliance With The Damned is a superbly produced and highly recommended graphic novel.

it's a dalliance with the damned on my copy ....
a good continuation of the lucifer series; not quite Sandman level but its getting there.

Optimizing C With Assembly Code

Optimizing Assembly with C as an infrastructure
This is one of the very few books that can help a person improve their skill in assembly as well as many of the common optimization and pitfalls for speed. Since it's rather old, it handles only up to the 486 but is very useful nonetheless.

Don't buy this book expecting to be handheld, it expects (and demands) an intelligent programmer who knows what they are doing to get good mileage. If you're a beginner, you're better off with another book - this is really for the competent C programmer who knows a bit of assembly and knows what to expect from the 80x86 architecture.

If you're an assembly programmer who wants to cycle count and tweak those algorithms for extra cycles of speed, this is your book.

A good starter
A good starting point for programmers who crave to make their codes ever so faster. A backgound in C and Assembly is essential for the readers. This book is rewarding and worth the money.

Play Harmonica with CD (Audio) and DVD
Published in Paperback by Amsco Music (2003)
Authors: Peter Pickow and Jason A. Shulman
Amazon base price: $9.95
Average review score:

My first harp book
This was the book that got me started with the harmonica. It starts very easy, with just two chords, and it goes slowly to the blues. In the blues chapter you can find some solos, and some are more difficult. What I liked about this book was that it goes through the basics at a slow pace and with many examples. Also, the recording is very good. The channels are separated, one for the backup song and one for the harp.

a good 'first book'
As a beginner, I found this book is well organized, easy to follow, written with plain English and a little bit of humor. The etudes are well selected, not boring at all. It is the best book for you if you are also a beginner, still know little about harmonica and musical theory. It is better to buy a C tone harp first, although this book (maybe the only book) does not urge you to do that.

The Sicilian Accelerated Dragon: Improve Your Results with New Ideas in This Dynamic Opening

The best!
This is the best book I have seen on the accelerated dragon, including Silman and Donaldson's book, as well as Silman's Winning with the Sicilian Defence (actually, I like all these books). But this one is the best combination of complete games, lots of theory, enthusiasm, and good writing. It is one of those "labor of love" books. Highly recommended--you will be playing the accelerated dragon if you buy this book.

Complete and instructive coverage of the Accelerated Dragon
This book covers all lines of the Accelerated Dragon including the variety of systems played vs. the Maroczy Bind and alternative set-ups. It has the added plus of using research from an earlier book (Silman and Donaldson) on the same subject. While the use of complete games may not appeal to all readers, themes are covered and explained in every line and there are loads of suggestions with improvements in certain lines and reassessments of others. Both authors play the Accelerated and Heine-Nielsen, the 1999 Danish Champion, has a lot of his games on display.

While the book shows a bias for Black in that they try to prove that the opening is playable, they do evaluate the positions objectively and games feature wins and losses for both sides and clearly show critical lines, especially in the end of chapter summaries. In addition, the Hyper Accelerated Dragon with (2 ....g6) and the Semi Accelerated are covered (4 .... Nf6).

I noticed that a line in NCO in the Semi Accelerated was not given and it seemed superior to the line given by this book as a model. However, this is a well written and thorough guide on the Accelerated Dragon and related systems and is recommended if you need only opne book on the opening.

Excellent!
I chose this book for my first child because it was one of the few that allowed an opportunity for entries regarding prenatal time as well as the early childhood years. It is mostly non-sectarian with titles such as "Special Holiday Memories" instead of mentioning specific holidays. It is also a binder, so pages can be easily added. I have been given several books for the baby I am currently expecting, but will most likely buy this one again instead.

A Tale of Baby Days - Baby Memories Book
I love the format of the baby memories book. I used this book for my first child and am ordering an out of print copy to replace the one I received as a gift for my second child.

Teddy's Christmas: a Pop-up Book with Mini Christmas Cards
Published in Paperback by Tango Books (24 October, 1994)
Author: Peter Bowman
Amazon base price: $

A great book for toddlers
My 2-year-old absolutely loves this book (it's his favorite Christmas book). In fact, we had to sneak it back in the Christmas things we packed away last year, or he would have read it all year long. He especially liked the pop-up aspect of the book. And with the action of removable envelopes and letters, your child will likely not become bored with it. But be careful, it's best that a parent reads the book with a young child because some of the pop-ups and letters are easily torn. (That's why I'm buying another - my son looked at it by himself and accidentally ruined it!).

Teddy's Christmas: A Pop-Up Book With Mini Christmas Cards
This is my 6 year old's favorite Christmas story! The artwork is wonderful, & really fun. The story is nice for parents, because it is about Christmas giving, rather than receiving. I would broaden the age recommendation, because older kids would continue to enjoy the details. This book contains pop-up elements that a preschooler could easily ruin. I hope for more from this author.

For the experienced spiritual adventurere
I borrowed it from a friend for my first reading, but found there was too much essential stuff here. This book is for the more mature Christian who is interested in exporting the deeper aspects of spiritual warfare.

Helpful insights into the spiritual battle we encounter.
How can a book with such an ominous title raise one's spirit to praise as this one does? The 13 chapters (nine of them with responses) read like a Marine Corps recruiter's call to join the action. Taking just three chapters as examples, the authors declare that "We Are At War" (Dr. Ed Murphy), that we must reckon with "Deception: Satan's Chief Tactic" (Dr. Timothy M. Warner), but that we may rejoice by "Finding Freedom in Christ" (Dr. Neil Anderson). The authors and respondents offer well-reasoned, helpful insights into the very real battle that has to be fought if we are to fulfill the Great Commission. The contributors do not live in a side eddy of the evangelical church, but serve in such respected institutions as Seattle Pacific University, Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL., Church of God School of Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary, Canadian Theological Seminary, Talbot theological Seminary, and others. Like its theme, this is a powerful book.

10 Stars if I Could!
Buy this book now! Even if you never make any of the recipes, the pictures and layout are worth the price.

If you're a novice baker, this isn't the book for you. Some of the recipes are a bit involved. You must, must make the Kranz Cake, even if it does demand an overnight rest of the dough...

Bear in mind this is a British book, so you'll need a set of scales as well as a Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion to make anything from the book (unless this edition is already converted - I got my copy in the UK).
