Designing with Photographs
This book will show the image spectrum (literal-evocative). As designer, I am looking for a book that can explain how can we do art direction for photographic assignment so we'll speak the same language. So this book is very useful for designer as well as photographer.

Other topic that I found very useful is the explanation about how can we enhance the picture speak through combination of color, composition, cropping, typography and other elements.

I also recommend to read Visual Language (also by Peter Bonnici). It is the best and the only book on Visual Language.

Short and Sweet
Though not as thorough and extensive in detail as "Shark Liver Oil", which I highly recommend, this book offers great insight into the unbelievable healing powers of the shark. Shark liver oil has only recently begun to be taken seriously as a powerful healer amongst medical professionals. Books like "Shark Liver Oil" and "Devour Disease" help to bring to light the extensive range of healing this "wonder" oil has. If you are one whom is prone to illness, suffering from something severe like cancer, or just want to fend off those all too common colds, shark liver oil is for you, and so is this book!

Nice Introduction to EJB
This book is aimed towards the experienced Java developer who is familiar with distributed environments, Servlets, JSPs, and JDBC and wants to get a good in-depth introduction into Enterprise JavaBeans. The book starts with an introduction to EJB technology and the EJB architecture in general. This book is translated into English and these beginning chapters seem to suffer a little bit in the translation as some of the sentences are poorly constructed. The later chapters don't have this problem however. After the introduction, the book covers each of the different types of beans (session, entity, and message) in detail with a discussion of when and how to use them. Examples of their use from both the server and client side are provided. The deployment descriptors for each type are also covered. Transactions and security are discussed with examples that help to clearly explain how these mechanisms work in EJBs. The authors then discuss some of the practical issues that arise when developing an EJB application such as performance and bean interaction. In the final chapter, the authors explain where EJB fits in with Web Services and then give a brief discussion of the standard timer service added to EJB 2.1. The authors do a good job of not just showing how to use EJBs but also explaining what it is and why you would want to use it. The level of detail makes this a good book for both developers and architects.

One of the best of the 1960s autobiographies
It's a shame that this book is out of print, because it tells the story of one man's adventures in a unique time and place in a way that is less successfully done in other such books. Mungo was there at the creation, and he (usually) doesn't gloss over the failings of the hippies' original vision. The book is witty and opinionated, well-written and amusing - and if you're interested in the 1960s you should seek out copies in your nearby library or other such repository.

Mungo's life during those intense years covered in the book (which is circa 1965 through about 1971) traced nearly the entire stereotpical path of the 1960s hippie: from the Haight to political action in Washington and elsewhere (as a member of the Liberation News Service), to a comically unsuccessful stand as a back-to-the-lander communitarian, to a wandering journey to the 'sources of enlightenment' in Asia. The book shows just how it was possible to become entirely burnt out with innovation in just a six or seven year period, and illustrates well the trajectory of the 1960s, from ideal to disillusion to acceptance.

And it's well-written.

Useful reference book for the snorkeller/diver in Bermuda.
I have been using this book as a pre-snorkel class teaching tool for 15 years - in its waterproof plastic version. (I am not sure that paperback version will last that long!). It has 98% of the fish snorkellers in Bermuda will see, with clear illustrations and brief but informative descriptive paragraphs on the opposite page. Fish colour is sometimes a tad off, but not enough to matter. It's only drawback is lack of inclusion of lobster, anemones, sea cucumbers, and that sort of thing.

Roller coaster ride through Africa
"French Lessons in Africa: Travels with My Briefcase Through French Africa" is a collection of business-travel experiences and observations in ten countries in Francophone Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo, Zaire). Biddlecombe careens from business-class hotel and international conference center to rural village and farm, and describes his encounters with everything from white magic in Benin, locusts in Mali, to lost luggage in Congo. He shares his encounters with Africans of all sorts: government minister, customs officer, doctor-entrepreneur, gold smuggler, chicken farmer, soap manufacturer, and cassette pirater. He shares his thoughts, knowledge, and conversations covering African leaders, economic development, the CFA franc, colonization and independence, health and nutrition, literature, music, and architecture. All with a great deal of wit and humor. This is no introductory text, but anyone with some basic knowledge of Africa will find this book informative and enjoyable.

Bonus
To be honest, the reason I bought this book was it came with a small pair of gardening gloves, which my tiny gardening apprentice (aged 5) could don when he "helped" in the garden.

Then I had a look at the book, and it is good. It has some good basic growing thing projects for kids - eg planting a window box, growing a runner bean in a jar.

Good for parents to give them ideas and to read with kids- I don't really think the age group that would be interested in these activities would read it independently!

Beautiful illustrations in the sharp photographic house-style of Dorling Kindersley.
