Review from the Publisher
An explanation for everyone of St. Teresa of Avila's teaching about personal prayer, especially the prayer of meditation, which she calls the "royal highway to Heaven." Though a mystic, St. Teresa was an eminently practical person, and that quality imbues her approach to prayer - and this book. Filled with saintly wisdom. Easy to understand. Highly recommended by Fr. Dubay, author of "Fire Within".

Excellent book..
This is an excellent introduction to praying with scripture.

A priest friend had told me that he had learnt Christian meditation from this book in his formative years as a Carmelite.

Emotional Healing With Homeopathy: A Self-Help Manual

very good
This book is about mental and emotional disorders and how homeopathy can help (or heal the wounds). This book is written with insight and covers the most important remedies. A repertory and materia medica makes it complete. As to me this book should be on hand in all emergency units (police, firebrigades etc...). Homeopathy may help them get through some emotional problems when they are dealing with severe accidents, shootings etc...!

Deep insight into the Powerful healing of Homeopathy
At the time I read this book, I had been studying homeopathy for perhaps a year. This book was one of the first things that opened my eyes to the power of Homoepathy to treat emotional, spiritual, and mental disturbances, which may be rooted in various trauma, in addition to it's well known healing properties as a vibrational energetic medicinal system which far transcends western medicine. This book is suitable for an intelligent introduction to Homeopathy, but is also valuable to a practitioner. I would NOT recommend self treatment on the basis of the information in this book only, however.END

Super helpful
My teacher bought this book for our class. It helped her a lot. She says she was scared that the kids in the class new more about the internet than she did. But she's really good now, too. This is a good book.

Best Book especially for Teachers I've Ever Read!
This is a fun, easy-to-understand book that answered ALL my questions about how to get started on the Internet and where to take my class online, without overwhelming me with tech-speak. I highly recommend this book. If you are a teacher who wants to integrate "Internet" into your classrrom, but aren't sure how to start, this is the best book EVER. The author has really thought of everything - detailed Internet and e-mail set-up instructions, vocabulary explanations, there are even example permission letters to parents as well as the excellent descriptions of what's out there on "Internet" for high quality educational websites for teachers and students. I eagerly await more books like this to take me to the next level. I hope there will be more in this series; it's opened up a whole new exciting world to me and made me a better teacher.

for any environmental studies program. Ideas put to the test on an island with very little outside resources. Excellent discussion material. Unique insight into the revolution.

First-rate scientific and social examination of Cuba's agric
Cuba's social and economic systems have been in crisis since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The prime concern of the country is how to feed its citizens so that every member has an adequate and nutritious diet. Rosset and Benjamin's scientific delegation to Cuba examined the history leading up to the current crisis, and the social, political and economic factors which maintain the food shortage up to this day. They then launch on an encyclopedic survey of the agricultural and social reform programs launched by Cuba's government to remedy the crisis. The country has adopted a Low Input, Sustainable Agriculture (LISA) style of food production in order to cope with drastically reduced inputs of chemicals, fertilizer, fuel, and capital since the USSR collapsed. Research programs abound, with several hundred research and development facilities in a country little larger than Vancouver Island, B.C. They are studying and implementing programs in non-chemical control of insects, weeds, and disease; soil remediation and fertility; labour distribution; post-harvest physiology and storage; and the distributions of production and population centers. The Greening of the Revolution combines the expertise of a 20 member delegation who spent a week in 1992 travelling the country. It reads like a comprehensive Annual Review article, with insightful analysis throughout, but not for the faint-of-heart looking for a light read. The 1992 date is now 7 years past, it would be of great interest to have a second edition of the book published in a repeat of the 1992 surveys. The book could also use some close editing; although logically laid out and of strong scientific style, there were reduncies and inconsistencies sprinkled throughout the text. In all, though, an excellent and compelling analysis of a country in transition.

"VALUABLE INFORMATION"
I would like to congratulate Dr. Keith Robinson for his first published book, for the valuable information, and for the great effort being done to correlate dentistry with psychology, sociology and people communication. I advise not only the lay reader to read this valuable book, but also the newly graduated dentist for the best approach to communicating with the patient.

It's Not Like Reading Most Health Information......IT'S FUN!
Growing Older With Your Teeth, Or Something Like Them! is the first book in a new series of books which will number fifteen when finished. The series is called An Anthology On Aging. In the first book, Dr. Keith Robinson uses a light-hearted and humorous writing style to deliver valuable health information about the mouth as it ages. However, the book is about far more than just your teeth, it's about the art of growing old as your body parts begin to show signs of wear. The book is filled with touching stories that give meaning to the concepts. Robinson uses humor and warmth to touch people on health. The book is an "easy read" with a big payload of information. It's not like reading most health information...it's fun. I'm looking forward to Dr. Robinson's next book called Growing Older With Your Brain, Batteries Not Included. All in all, Growing Older With Your Teeth Or Something Like Them! is a must for people who are old or hope to be some day. It is important because as we manage our dental health and its aging process, we keep our overall health in better condition. Robinson's book is an excellent source for this worthy pursuit.

Help for a difficult time
This book would have been helpful for me in working through two bouts with cancer. In the privacy of my own home I was able to read the various scenarios and think about ways to continue dealing with my children and the dreaded disease. I recommend this book to any family having to cope with cancer and its devastating affect on all concerned.

A must read for anyone who knows someone
Though blessed with not having any of my immediate family stricken with such a horrible disease, I frequently find myself hearing of a friend or someone diagnosed with some form of cancer (non of us seem immune to such tragedy). Aside from initial sorrow of the news, I often find myself asking; does the person have children and how are they accepting the news? No one has ever supplied a warm and fuzzy answer to this question. Lost for words, I find myself referring this timely book over and over again. The author's personal experience and efforts to obtain multiple essays from others who have faced such hurdles, will provid enough encouragement to help those most important in our lives. Our children!
If you are not motivated to read this yourself, send it to someone or anyone in need.

Hieroglyphs from A to Z: A Rhyming Book With Ancient Egyptian Stencils for Kids
Published in Hardcover by Rizzoli (1993)
Author: Peter Der Manuelian
Amazon base price: $19.95

great
this is a great book on hieroglyphs for children. but if you are older and just beginning to learn this is also a great book for you. but if you have already been studing hieroglyphs this is not the book for you. but if you have children this is a book you will want to buy

Simple introduction to hieroglyphs.
I liked this book because it can be used with a wide age range of children. The introductory rhyme and ABC rhymes on each page are especially suited to younger children, while the smaller text at the bottom of the page gives more information for older children. For example, the page for 'R' says 'R is for rabbit. Make a move - off he'll go.' At the bottom of the page you find the hieroglyph for r, an explanation of the symbol, how to write 'rabbit' in hieroglyphs, and a little more information on rabbits in Ancient Egypt. The large picture of a rabbit on the page is a reproduction of either an ancient carving or painting. After the alphabet there are several pages giving information about the history of hieroglyphs and how to write with them which would be of interest to older children as well. A stencil is also included, but you could write your own hieroglyphs by referring to the chart at the back of the book. This book is useful for introducing information on hierglyphs and Ancient Egypt to children.

Excellent way to learn
I am just learning to play the acoutstic guitar and have tried several of the "standard" self help books available. Have found that this book Instant Guitar in Full Color and its' associated playalong CD are way he top of the list. Excellent way for someone like myself, who has minimal musical experience, to get up and start playing within a short amount of time.

Great way to learn!
I got this book for my nephew and am amazed at how quickly it has helped him improve his guitar playing! The chord diagrams in color with accompanying photographs seem to be the perfect combination.

Introductory Statistics with R

Used price: $39.15

Very readable introduction
This book provides a very readable introduction to basic statistical analysis using R (with occational references to S-Plus). The table of contents displays the topics and I thought they were generally well covered in enough detail to compute the statistics (but this is not a statistics text). Especially helpful are the additional analysis steps, such as graphing results, and the peripheral R issues. Small things I would change: expanded coverage of manipulating data (e.g., SPSS's RECODE, TEMPORARY, MERGE FILE,...), more explicit instructions on installing the example data (it's at the end of the installation Appendix), discussion of interactions in ANOVA and regression, discussion of ANCOVA, and finally I would have liked a quick overview of the available packages and the stats they provide. But these are small issues; it's a great book.

A good book where there are few
Introductory Statistics with R is an important book for a rapidly developing field. R is an extremely powerful statistical computing environment which suffers from the same problem as almost every other free software project -- a lack of quality documentation. Dalgaard fills a major gap with this book, that is, a guide to using R for many standard statistical problems.

For some time now, users have had to make do with S-PLUS books which contained some overlap with R. Now R users have a book they can call their own. After briefly discussing the R system and the language basics, Dalgaard goes through what might be covered in an advanced undergraduate data analysis course. Throughout the book, code examples and output are carefully interspersed so that the reader doesn't go too long without having a concrete example.

Dalgaard leaves out some advanced topics such as time series, spatial statistics, etc. (some of which are nicely covered in Modern Applied Statistics with S by Venables and Ripley) but that is probably for the best. The book is not bloated, nicely priced and I would recommend it to any advanced undergrad or first year grad student wanting to learn how to do statistical analysis in R.

Alternative to Ritalin
This package consists of a book and two cassette tapes. The first cassette tape, "How to Help Your Child and Teen to Pay Attention in School and Behave at Home--Hope for Our Childrens Future" gives parents alternatives to Ritalin and similar drugs. Mr. Buntman believes with all his heart in the use of natural Super Foods to help children with ADHD. He is one of the pioneers in the use of natural Super Foods with ADD and ADHD children and this unusual tape tells you everything you should know about Super Foods. In the tape Mr. Buntman gives background about the use of Super Foods. You hear from doctors why the Super Foods work, you hear from parents and children their first-hand stories and experiances on how the Super Foods help them. It is fascinating to listen first hand as parents and children tell about the amazing results with Super Foods.

The 2nd tape, "Help For Parents of Hyperactive/ADHD Kids" is a companion to the book and gives you pratical information on helping your child with behavior problems both at home and at school.

As a teacher of kindergarten children, I know the enormous difficulty parents have with children with ADD and ADHD. This book is really great in helping parents learn how to get their child to behave at home and learn at school. This is an outstanding book and really great because:

1) It gives parents a specific method of what they could do to get their children to behave at home. Mr. Buntman gives you six steps which help you to reprogram your childs brain so they behave at home. This material has never been published before.

2) Mr. Buntman gives you specific suggestions on how you can work with your teacher and child to have your child do better at school. His suggestions are specific, concrete and detailed and you can put them into practice immediatley.

3) This is a basic manual on how to get your children to behave at home and learn in school. It is not full of theory. It is full of practical, workable advice. As a teacher, I can tell you his suggestions work. I find this book invaluable and I know moms will find it a great resource for their ADD and ADHD children.

The best resource for helping parents of ADHD kids.
When you order Living With Your ADHD Children, you get Mr. Buntman's bookand 2 cassette tapes. Each tape runs 35 minutes.

The first tape "How to Help Your Child and Teen to Pay Attention in School and Behave at Home -- Hope for Our Children's Future" tells you all about Super Foods and their uses to treat children with ADHD. Super Foods help children with ADHD to behave at home and learn in school. You learn all about the Super Foods in this tape, what they are and why they work.

You hear testimonials from doctors, parents and children. You hear about a 17 year old boy who could never learn before he used the Super Foods and now learns. You hear about 8 or 9-year-olds couldn't do math, and now they can do math. You hear amazing, remarkable testimonials from parents and children who have tried the Super Foods and have seen remarkable results.

The use of the Super Foods in helping children with ADHD is wonderful and amazing because it is a non-drug approach; no drugs are used with the Super Foods.

Mr. Buntman has a severe case of ADHD and the Super Foods have changed his life and his passion is helping children and adults with ADHD treat their problem using foods instead of medication.

The secomd tape tells you how to how to get your children to behave at home and learn in school, it is down-to-earth and practical.

Having worked with ADHD children over the last 6 years as a nutritional specialist, I found Buntman's book to be the best I've seen in the ADHD field. Peter H. Buntman has worked with ADHD children over 25 years and is an internationally-recognized author and psychotherapist.

What I love about his work is, for the first time, he tells parents specifically and exactly in detail what to do to get their kid to behave. Mr Buntman has a 6-step method that parents can immediately put into preactice after they read his book. He coached parents to "repattern and reprogram their kids' brain."

This book is just full of important information including what it feels like to be a parent of an ADHD child, what it is like to be an ADHD child, what we know about ADHD, all that's hyperactive isn't hyperactivity, two chapters on how to get your child to behave and listen to you, building a child'd self-esteem, school problems the ADHD child in the school system (where he gives 15 valuable tips and hints on how to get kids to do well in school).

Mr. Buntman coaches and teaches parents how to get their kids to behave at home. This 6-step method I've never seen before, this is the first time its ever been published, and it is real effective in helping parents to get their kids to behave at home. This is a wonderful, wonderful, outstanding book.
