Arboles de la Península de Osa

Neotropical Trees
The Trees of Peninsula Osa identification book is well done. It contains a four part description for the tree being described. Tree characteristics (height, bark color, etc.), leaf type (simple, compound),flower discription, fruit description. It goes in alfabetical order by family and also contains ecological notes at the end of each description. One of my favorite features is that this book comes with pictures and close ups of diagnostic characteristics. At the end of the book it has a helpful glossary followed by Family description of diagnostic characteristics. The one drawback is that this book does not have a dichtomous key which makes it hard to identify trees in the field.

regional architecture in the practice
This book i bought 2 years ago in Costa Rica, but after reading only the first chapter was stolen along with my bag. It's so difficult to find a knowledge source so complete about regional architecture in the practice. Stagno studied the sorroundings of his Costa Rica, culture, climatology and construction, to understand where was he designing, in order to adapt to it, and not the other way around. He has developed a design philosophy for his work, in which the best part is that he takes it to the end: he does what he preaches. His buildings in C.R. are living proof of his theories. This book describes this philosophy - ambiental syncretism - in a concise, well researched and complete manner. An landmark book for all architects designing in the humid tropics.

Quirky & unexpected
A nice translation of a Brazilian author's work. A clever story of a group of men who gather monthly to dine with one another. The introduction of a marvelous chef restores the appetites of the men for one another's company and a zest for life--or is it death? A fascinating examination of what motivates people knowing that fate is staring at them in a plate of a favorite food.

While the ending is a little too pat, the book raises interesting questions and is a gem worthy of the short amount of time it takes to read.

The Next best thing to having a friend who lives in town
This book is the next best thing to having a friend who lives in the town you are considering moving to. I have gotten great info on lifestyle, shopping, real estate prices, crime rates and school ratings.

Advice on why a good school rating factors into lower crime rates. Great info for someone like me who initially wasn't concerned about school rankings but now knows why it is important.

Information is given on new homes being built, median home prices, as well as a price comparison at local grocery store!

I highly recommend the purchase of this inexpensive book, before putting down the big bucks on a home.

4th in the Series of Buena Costa County mysteries!
Fiesta Week was being celebrated when the sheriff was summoned to the big house of influential Ronald Lovatt, an ex-British Army colonel. A valuable painting had been stolen in a slick professional theft. Routine, that is, until the sheriff learned that something else had been taken...A World War II Machine gun was missing and in it's place, a message was scrawled in blood!! Behind the gaiety of the Fiesta, County Investigator Lee Beckett saw the crooked shadows cast by old loves, hates and sins, and beyond the shadows, the long-hidden secrets that led to a macabre crime.

Crossing into a brave new world
A highly authentic account of a life growing up in rural Timor, followed by a move to the capital Dili, thence to Portugal. This book offers some unique insights which, to the best of my knowledge, are not available anywhere else. It is a privilege to be writing this review on the first day of Timor's birth as an independent nation, after being subject to domination by invading forces for the last 450 years.
