For the Serious Cartoonist
Leave the word "Idiot's" out of the title, and you'll have a clearer idea of what this book is about. Let me make one thing clear... this is NOT a beginner's "how to draw" book. This book assumes that you already know how to draw, and offers you guidelines on how to apply that skill to cartooning. The authors give a much too brief overview of the origins and history of cartooning (with a few minor errors), and discuss the basics of cartoon construction: expression, perspective, composition, and gag writing. They also briefly review the various forms of cartooning, and what special talents and knowledge each one requires: gag panels, comic strips, comic books, editorial cartoons, greeting cards, animation, and computer graphics. There's an entire chapter devoted to manga, the Japanese style of cartooning that's currently popular in the US. Plus, a helpful bibliography, glossary, and lots of tips on how to get your work published.

My one complaint, and it's a minor one, is that I was distracted by the authors' repeated use of the word "media" as a singular noun rather than plural... but that's the proofreader in me.

For an art book, it's surprisingly heavy on text and light on illustrations... but that's not a drawback in this case. This is not a book for beginners, but if you're an aspiring cartoonist in need of direction and encouragement, then I can't think of a better book for you.

The complete work of ERP explanation
While they are hundred of SAP or BAAN or J.D. Edwards or Oracle books in the market, only few books were really written in "ERP context". Fortunately, this book is one of few.

The teaching experience told Brady and Monk that "teaching SAP application" to business students was not sufficient to make students understand the "concept of ERP". This is the impression for them to write this book. The foundation of ERP are addressed in business process perspectives; and then, mapped to the ERP process. One "BIG" case-study is used to describe the ERP component, with respect to SAP R/3 system. However, the fundamental is not limited to SAP package since extensions are also provided.

The uniqueness of this book is the combination of "O'Leary's book (ISBN 0521791529)" and "Jacobs & Whybark (ISBN 0072400897)". Like "Why ERP? by Jacobs and Whybark", Brady and Monk use a single case study to describe the ERP in "formal format" (not in novel as Why ERP). Like "O'Leary's book", this book gives the fundamental to understand ERP rather than "implementation of specific package".

Unlike "Why ERP", this book is the formal textbook, very easy to read textbook, not a novel. Unlike "O'Leary's book", this book is the explanation of ERP and interaction of business process, instead of implemenation and outline.

Another major advantage of this book is the easy-well-written is in 200 pages. Graduate students or passion-readers may finish it in one night. This book is also good for ERP introduction (1-3 meetings) for any Production/Operation Management classes or Supply Chain Management.

One thing that I'd like to see more is the "reference". While this book is quite comprehensive, the reference are limited to the CIO (www.cio.com), instead of many existed publications. I wish the authors would do more research in this area and put additional reference in the context in the next edition.

A Great Horror/Suspense Novel
Loved this book! The writer paints each scene so vividly, I couldn't put it down. The characters were so real that I found myself getting personally involved with their dilemmas. Very scary in spots though - you might not want to read it alone at night! Am looking forward to more novels by this author.

Mrs Wagner
While Wagner was writing his opera Siegfried, Cosima von Bulow left her husband to join Wagner. From that day until he died, Cosima (soon to be Cosima Wagner) kept a detailed, daily journal of life with "R" (as Cosima calls him).

This book is an abridgment of those complete diaries, and a mere 1/4 the length of the original.

Martin Cooper, who translated the full length original, did the editing for this abridgment, and he did an admirable job. He captured the "important" stuff, while leaving out all the detail. If you just want to read about Wagner, but are not interested in all the fluff, this book is for you. Learn about Wagner the man without all of the usual hyperbole.

Those who are interested in the diaries but are put off by its 2000 pages now have a good alternative. It can be highly recommended to everyone except specialists. If you are a Wagner aficionado, however, you will want to get your hands on the full-length original.

Timely and entertaining
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Date with the Devil. I especially liked the tension leading up the climax. The characters are colorful, and the main female characters are real survivors--they have spunk. It's a love story set in a plot of horror. I read Called from Darkness first, and this is the sequel.

Excellent collection of old-fashioned grue.
This is an excellent selection of Cave's pulp magazine weird-menace stories, mostly from the 30s and 40s. Evil lurks on every page, but did the unknown monster or a demon in more human form commit the ghastly murders? With stark pen and ink illustration by World Fantasy award winning artist Lee Brown Coye and editied by the late master of modern horror Karl Edward Wagner, this is perfect reading for a dark and stormy night

This is a great book!
This book is a window into 16th century English life and a biography of someone a little different than the people we can normally read about from this period. Although scholarly, the Devon Gentleman is very readable. This book is definitely worth your time!

the dark beauty of wagner...
this has got to be one of the greatest operas of all time. dover's publication is neatly laid out and easy to follow. the paper and binding are good quality; i own many dover scores and they've all held up very well, even though i use them a lot.

'full score' means you get the music as it was written for every instrument (including vocals), just as the composer intended for it to be played, just as you would hear it performed live or on cd. a list of instruments is also included to give an idea of the massive orchestra that the work calls for. if you don't know german, you may want an english translation of the libretto (it's not translated here), and a good german to english dictionary, as wagner wrote his musical instructions (tempo, articulation)in german, rather than the usual italian.

for composers or music lovers, this is a great way to study orchestration and composition, right at the feet of one of the masters...

Some thing for everyone
Down Santa Claus Lane is a gentle meander along the Victorian by-ways of yester-year, crammed with lush reditions of Father Christmas in various guises. The charts are drawn from old art work sources such as post-cards and Christmas cards. The use of colour is imaginative and trouble has been taken to find many styles. In this book Santa comes in red, yellow, green, blue, and brown. Something for everyone. There are thirty different charts, each one easy to read and the finished stitchery is displayed in numerous ways, from straight forward framed pictures to cushions, pillows, and stockings. There is even a chart dedicated to baby's first Christmas, surely no doting grandma could resist the urge to stitch that one? As this is an American book there are a few all American Santas. This is a truely super book, well up to the house standard of Leisure Arts and one of my particular treasures.
