A refreshing and encouraging look at homeschooling by faith!
I highly recommend TEACH ME LORD... for both new and veteran homeschoolers! The Smiths share essays of encouragement and exhortation about lessons they learned while homeschooling. Instead of offering us "human" wisdom, they point us to the Lord and His Word and challenge us to be willing to be taught of Him instead of allowing the world's ways to be our standard. How refreshing to find not just another "how to" book filled with human opinions! TEACH ME LORD... is full of "quotable quotes" to inspire and encourage you in your day to day homeschooling. --Tamara Eaton

A book every Christian home-schooling parent should own.
In the middle of my first year as a home-schooler, I revisited the essays in this wonderful book. The Smiths manage to encourage and challenge at the same time, as they recount the myriad ways in which the Lord worked on their character as they taught their children. This is not a "how to" book; it is much deeper and richer than that. Consistently, in every essay, through every lesson learned big and small, the Smiths point to the foundational premises of Christian home-schoolers. Or, to be more precise, to the one sure foundation of Christian home-schooling. It is so easy to lose our way, and to become caught up in the cares and/or the goals of this world. We can so readily be derailed by loneliness (ours or our children's), exhaustion, exasperation, impatience, and anxiousness. We can so readily adopt the world's goals for our children, forgetting what it is that God would have us do. What does it profit a child to achieve perfect SAT scores, the Smiths ask, yet lose his own soul? Our God-ordained role as transmitters of God's Word to our children is the primary purpose of home-schooling our children. You will recognize yourself on these pages; and you will find tremendous encouragement here, as well as a clear challenge to turn to God's Word for guidance. This is Biblical exhortation at its best, and every Christian home-schooling parent should have a copy close at hand.

Thats not stealing
I like this comic book because we Christian kids need something to read besides that other stuff. I am 10 years old and I have all of the comic books about Sarah. I tell my friends about Sarah to. That's all.

That's Not Stealing
Sarah is an interesting character that makes me anxious to see the next issue. In this issue I felt Sarah is the good guy. I felt sorry for her dad.

Lifestyle Worship
What a thought provoking book! Tozer seeks to inform the reader, or hearer in it's original delivery, that worship is more than a Sunday morning experience. There is more to worship than it's corporate function that most of us know it for. He has no qualms with laying it on the line with statements similar to this. If your not worshiping on Monday then you probably didn't have a genuine experience on Sunday.

This book was written based on Tozer's desire to write it. It's content is based on a series of sermons he delivered about worship, but was unable to write due to his death. Worship is about a lifestyle dedicated unto God! Reading this book will give you opportunity to evaluate your relationship in worshiping God.

A Call For Churches Everwhere
I have experienced diverse worship styles in churches, differing definitions of what that worship means, and confusion as to why worship is essential for the Christan life. In many churches today, there seems to be more of a concern for putting on a show, big productions, etc. than for drawing people into a deeper fellowship with God. For some, worship has become the central theme of their Christian experience, and for others, something that "those wacky Charismatics" experience. Tozer, with prophetic insight, reveals the problem with the church today in relation to its worship and this distressing fact: many in this age have never experienced the sweet fellowship with God that can only come through intiamte worship as the creature to the Creator. This book is highly recommended for all sincere Christians who desire to move past the outer courts of "showy" worship, and into the holy of holies where true worship can be experienced.

Excellent eye opener on the subject of grace.
I have been in counseling for a few months because of struggling with past hurts. I borrowed this book from a friend and it came at just the right time. I was amazed that God loved me unconditionally. I had always been taught that if you "lived right" the Lord would love you. Amazingly enough He loves me even when I mess up. I am very disappointed that the book is out of print. I wanted my very own copy.

Hope is why we survive, where do we find hope?
The world today can be a very dismal quagmire of lost dreams, well meaning decisions gone wrong, hurt and disaster, but through all this there is hope. Chuck Smith is the senior pastor at the 30,000 member congregation at Calvary Chapel, in Costa Mesa, California. From this church have grown over 1,000 affiliated churches throughout the world, with membership of over 1,000,000. In his book, "Why Grace Changes Everything," Chuck describes , in his typical down to earth approach, the unmerited gift of God to all who ask, called "Grace." Grace is defined (Biblically) in easily understood terms, and how it applies to each of us, with staight forward explanations. The benefits of "Grace" are incredible, but as Chuck explains, it is free and readily available, yet very misunderstood. This book is easy reading, over a cup of coffee with friends, next to a fire place on a rainy day, or on your lunch hour (the respite from a hectic day). It reveals something needed by all, but does not require a Mastercard or Visa. It can be read by teens, with peer pressures, married couples on the brink of divorce, men and women in the twilight of their lives, it will bring hope and contentment to all. There is someone who loves us and cares for us, inspite of what we do, inspite of who or what we are, and He has a gift for you and me, it's free, it's "Grace." The best, and most needful reading experience you can have, "Why Grace Changes Everything," By Chuck Smith.

Convincing
As a Catholic I once had my doubts about the Church's teaching on contraception. Later I came to oppose contraception for practical reasons and out of obedience. Then one day I stumbled accross WHY HUMANAE VITAE WAS RIGHT and once I started reading there was no putting it down. The beauty of this work is that it is a collection of writings from a variety of authors each with a unique perspective and each with his own unique style. So then, there is something for everyone. Whether the reader preferrs to hear personal experiences or wants to see it all in a syllogism, this book delivers. This is a must read for anyone who is feeling pressured to disregard the Church's teaching for it shows the wisdom, beauty, and bottom line common sense of the Church's stance.

Thanks to Janet Smith...
...my husband decided to not use any method of artificial birth control. It was a struggle for both of us, but this book really put the moral law into perspective. Janet Smith does a wonderful (and very non-preachy job) of explaining what contraception does to a marriage. In particular, the "testimony" chapter in this book was a thump on the head as we read about couples whose marriages improved when they started embracing their fertility as a gift, not a disease. Janet Smith believes contraception makes couples fight each other, and forces a woman to become constantly infertile to accomadate the constant fertility of a man. Thats one of the best reasons given in the book for the use of Natural Family Planning, so that the man must acclimate himself to his WIFE'S cyclical fertility.

This book is a must read no matter what you believe about the Catholic position on artificial birth control. Get the facts.

Refreshing and Timely Prayer Book for Women and Men
Thank you Elizabeth, Marjorie and Ann and associates for this exquisite book. It is a remarkable collection of thoughtful, devoted prayers and insights. Truly inspired! Truly welcome! A gift to women and men of faith.

My only disappointment is in the title of the book. The contents are very common indeed to women and are raised in common voice to God. The title, Women's Uncommon Prayers, trivializes and marginalizes the work. The Book of Common Prayer already marginalizes women because of its lack of inclusive language. This title, Women's Uncommon Prayers, perpetuates that by implication that women's work of worship and prayer is uncommon and at the margins of serious prayer and certainly of common / corporate (men and women) worship.

Women's Uncommon Prayers: Our Lives Revealed, Nurtured, Cele
What an amazing collection of prayers by and for the voice of women! A variety of topics, rich imagery, and amazing ways to connect with God in language that speaks from women's perspectives qualify for this book a prominent place on any woman's nightstand and/or bookshelf. I laugh at some thoughts, and cry at the astonishing way others are able to say what fails my voice. If you are a male, this book presents a rare opportunity to gain a peek into the hearts of women and their prayers to God. Advent and Christmas are approaching - stock up and give as gifts that will bring faith, renewal, and celebration for many years to come. My thanks to the compilers and the contributors of this terrific resource! You are a blessing to women everywhere.

Not A Typical "Networking" Book
Much to my surprise, and delight, I discovered after reading the first few pages that Fred Smith's work is not a manual on what clubs to join and how to select party guests. It's a thorough discussion on how to get the most value out the brief time we have on earth. Smith unapologetically uses his daily Christian walk to illustrate how to obtain real success in business, pleasure, family and personal relationships, and spirtual growth. In fairness to the reader, Smith is generous in sharing his failures as well as his successes. For the greatest benefit, read the entire book. Then, using the chapter titles as a guide, go back and study the parts you really need. Fred Smith's book was a personal "mission statement" years before the term was coined.

A Personal & Professional Development Classic!
I first read this book in the late 80's. It became a favorite. I've started rereading it...something I rarely do for any book. The ideas are simple, yet profound. Nothing gimmicky or hokey here...just sound advice from a highly successful person. I think so much of the book I've bought a box full to give as gifts to clients and friends.

A Personal Foundation for Ministry
I really like this book because it doesn't focus on youth ministry. It conentrates on the youth worker, explaining what it takes to be effective. This book focuses on a specific philosophy of ministry: the youth worker's head and heart have to be focused properly or the ministry will not be as healthy as it could be. It details the necessary mentality, spirituality, and personal life-style for today's youth worker. Quite a good book, and its concepts are clearly applicable to each of our lives (whether in youth ministry or not).
