a believer
This is just another of his wonderful works on faith and belief. Any time my faith is low, all I have to do is get it out and read a few pages.

A 20th Century Apostle
What can I say about Smith Wigglesworth? This rare specimen of a man decided to believe God rather than the traditions of men and was sent throughout the world to give the Good News of Jesus Christ to countless multitudes. This book has a great format. Each day's devotional starts out with the main thought of the day, then a big section of God's Word, and finally a powerfully accurate exegesis on the Scriptures by Wigglesworth. This book also includes several testimonies and accounts of how God used Wigglesworth to heal the sick, raise the dead (at least 14 people during his life's ministry, some say more) and convert untold thousands. This is definitely worth the money, friends. May God bless you with a deeper desire to walk closer with Him as you read it!

It's for Kids--OK, Parents Too!
I really liked this book because it has good stories. I like it that it that it says living in a step family can turn out good. I also like that this book has short bible verses that teach me about getting along and stuff. I am glad my parents read this book to me and my brother.

The Spritual and the Practical for Blended Familes
The author of Devotions for the Blended Family speaks to the need for a strength greater than oneself when living in a step family. She shows how the Bible contains wisdom for the struggles of step families, and does this by using interesting stories from every day family life. Children will love the stories, understand the biblical applications, and be reassured that other kids have the same problems they do. Parents will be glad to use Smith-Broersma's book as a tool for discussing areas of difficulty with their children. The questions at the end of each reading have enriched many a family conversation, and help the to children open up to their parent and step parent.

Full of action and adventure
One of the best books I have read in the past year has to be Fence Busters by Chip Hilton. It is a marvelous book about how Chip and his friends make it into the collage baseball team. One of the major reasons I enjoyed this book so much is that it is about baseball. It is a sport where different people play. Another reason I found the book to be so wonderful is that it was baseball because that is my favorite sport. The reason I picked out this book is because I used to play baseball for 8 years. Of course, my favorite reason for loving this book is it is a sports book. As you can see, Fence Busters By Chip Hilton was truly my favorite book.

great book
This is chip hiltons first year playing baseball for state university. He must face a jealous teammate that ia a bad sport and has a horrible attitude. He also helps a friend that is introduced in this book that has financial problems.

Complete for a beginner ...
I recently purchased this text along with Janson's History of Art (5th ed.). Although this handbook was written with Janson's 6th edition in mind, it has not taken away from my cross-referenced learning experience. Throughout the text, there are references to examples (illustrations) in History of Art (or other popular art history texts) which help in applying the "theory" (if you can call it that) with the "application."

The text has a wide range of art terms key to the study and analysis of art history. The section on Christian subjects, signs and symbols has helped me decipher the icons depicted in Christian-themed pieces of the Renaissance.

My copy of the text is bound somewhat backwards towards the end. The Index and Artist Chronology pages, for example, are divided and unordered ... but it does not take away from the text's usablity!

All in all, I believe this text has been a great investment.

From Abacus to Zeus
In Abacus to Zeus, you will find a wonderful, concise, approachable 'quick and dirty' reference for those new to studying the visual arts. James Pierce brings together many of the pesky, essential--and formerly, ellusive--details in an accessible reference. Deffinitions with illustrations, terms and stories of mythology, religious art,and a chronology of artists and architects (complete with pronunciation guide--indespensible for those of us who remain unilingual) work well together to make this book a find!

Deep and extremely engaging
Dear Friends:

I am just back from the International TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages)Convention 2003, where I had the great privilege of hearing Dr. Smith speak. His topic was Language Teaching and Spirituality.

Let me tell you that he impressed me as one of the finest language professors out there! His ideas were well thought out and incorporated strategies that engage students at a significantly deep level...not just according to Christian tradition...just "What kind of values and purpose do you have in your life today? What values would you like to see in yourself in 5 or 10 years from now? Is there ever a time when a person needs to stand up for what they believe in (like Sophie and Hans Scholl)?" These are all open-ended questions that do not force any sort of doctrine on the student, but only encourage them to think, think, think and explore! I believe his method incorporates language learning, great student interest and engagement, emotional intelligence, and values. Dr. Smith uses a certain textbook in his German classes, put out by Charis ...in England...very, very impressive. He claims his students learn just as much or MORE of the target language when they are asked questions that relate to their lives at such a deep level!

The part about the responsibilities and privileges of the stranger (immigrant) and the host (society) were exceptional as well...truly enlightening and full of "ah-hahs". I firmly believe that this book could be used to teach language in any culture and any situation, as it guides the student to think about what matters to THEM in the target language (the one they are learning).

This is authentic language learning for authentic purposes, people. Don't miss out on reading this gem! Your students and administration will thank you for years to come! :-)<...

Language Teaching and Christian Thought
How does Christian thought relate to foreign language teaching? At first thought, this question may not seem pertinent. Why would one's theology influence whether they used Krashen's model of language learning, Total Physical Response drills, or any other method or theory?

The Gift of the Stranger answers these questions and others by applying the teaching of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible to these contemporary issues. The authors, both of whom identify themselves as Christians, argue that the biblical image of the "stranger" should be applied to language teaching. The added dimension of ethics and morality is a significant contribution to the field. The book argues that language teaching should prepare students to participate appropriately in the foreign culture as a stranger and to welcome strangers from this culture when they come to the student's home area.

In addition to the biblical case studies, the authors also present fascinating historical notes on Christian language teaching programs throughout the Christian Era.

I recommmend this book to all language teachers, even if they do not share the authors' Christian background. The book can help teachers consider how their own moral and ethical philosophy influences their choice of teaching materials and methods.

Changed My Life
This audio book changed my life. I have always wanted to read and study Scripture, but, like a lot of people, I could never find the time. Listening to the Gospels on CD was the answer. The sound quality is great. Michael Smith does a terrific job with the narration and the background music adds to the overall message instead of detracting from it. I would highly recommend The Gospels Come to Life to anyone interested in learning more about Jesus Christ and his teachings.

Four books in one!
Smith Wigglesworth was an amazing man of God, and you will be blessed by his writings. This book has FOUR of his other books, combined into one.

Smith Wigglesworth on Healing
Smith Wigglesworth on the Holy Spirit
Smith Wigglesworth on the Spiritual Gifs
Smith Wigglesworth on Faith

These four books are available individually, but each is well over the cost of this single book. Get it! Read it! Be blessed!

St. John 14:12 is still true today.
Smith Wigglesworth may be thought of as one of those "old-timers" from an age gone by, but if there is one thing to be learned from this, as well as his other writings, it is this: Jesus promised that "the works that I do shall ye do also, and greater than this shall ye do, because I go to my Father who is in Heaven." John 14:12 and Heb. 13:8 are as true today as the day they were written.

If we as Christ's body could ever apprehend the simple teachings of this simple man, who was endued with "power from on high," we would indeed fulfill the aforementioned scriptures, as well as Mark 16, to name just a few. Bro. Wigglesworth believed that the Christian's Divine Right, as purchased by the Christ of Calvary for His people, was to live on a "higher plane." He truly lived a life of holiness, which produced a faith that could stare down the enemy; this is said not to honor or worship the man, but to give us faith that "all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

Greater Works is one of those "unknown" Christian Classics that belongs on the bookshelf of every believer, along with Charles Finney and F.F. Bosworth.

Hugs for the Hurting Screen Saver
I have the screen saver and it is beautiful. Each day there is a soothing background, with uplifting quotes. There is also a more extensive quote available. It starts my day off perfectly, and we really appreciate it.

Fast track to soothing the soul
This is a book that made me feel as if it was written especially for me. It inspires as it soothes the soul. Its light reading and yet powerful. It touched me as no other book ever has and will always be by my bedside for those times when I need that special Hug. What wonderful book for a person who is being challanged emotionally or physically. Everyone should experince at least one Hug! Its a keeper.

The importance of friendships
People weren't made to live alone and thus the importance of good friends are important in everyday life. Its a small book but one that I'd reccomend even to those who think that they've "got it" when it comes to friendships. It talks about why its important to have friends, how to be a good friend, how to fix broken frienships, and how to be good friends with those that aren't Christian. I haven't read too many friendship books but this one seems to cover a lot of stuff, and though its a small book, it comes in handy.

A good read about the need for friends.
I've been a fan of Michael's music for a number of years, so when he began to write books, I was eager to see what he had to say. And I haven't been disappointed yet. He has a very readable and personal writing style, and he's not afraid to be transparent. As for content, it's always relevant and based on tested Scriptural principles. It's awesome to see how strong his faith has remained during his high-profile years in the music business, where temptations are many and humility is easy to lose. A major contribution to his stability lies in the solid friendships he has maintained with other strong Christians. Friendship is important to him, and he wants others to reap its many benefits as well. That's a major reason why he wrote this book.

"I Will Be Your Friend" attracted me because of relational issues I have recently encountered in my own life. As I've entered my thirties, my desire to improve my current friendships has increased, since they have sustained me through a number of tough times. I want the ability to properly edify, encourage, and even rebuke my friends for the benefit of their character, and our relationship. In addition, I'd like to gain skills on forming solid new friendships, which is sometimes difficult for an introvert like myself.

So, when I came across this book I knew it was one I needed to read. And I'm glad I did. Michael illustrates a number of truths he's learned over the years about friendship. He touches on such topics as setting boundaries, accountability, the importance of being vulnerable, mentoring, and servanthood. Michael shares a lot from his own personal experiences, and it's refreshing to see that he even records his own relational missteps. Even better, his insights are tied to Scripture, and he is clear that God is the source of whatever wisdom he has.

I particularly recommend this book to men, since we seem less capable than women (or at least less willing) when it comes to forming deep friendships. It's important that we cultivate this ability, since the benefits are many and the alternatives are definitely less than God's best.
