Kids-Life: Sleepytime, Anytime With God: Devotional Stories for Your Child

A Great Book for Pre-Schoolers
My three year old loves this book! Along with each story (and there are a lot of them!) are questions to ask your child about the story's topic, a real short story from the Bible, and a one sentence prayer for your child to pray. The illustrations are great, and, for the most part, the stories are situations that real-life children can relate to. While I think there are much better devotional books out there for older kids, this is by far the best devotional I've seen for the preschool age group.

One of Cowley's better Cloister books ...
I rather liked this book. The meditations on the Paschal mystery, on the Passion, are suitable Lenten reading.

Smith is a monk in the Anglican order of the Society of St John the Evangelist, but this book will appeal to most Christians, regardless of ecclesial affiliation.

A Great Adventure!
Secrets of Rebel Cave was thouroughly enjoyable for my 10 year old daughter and I to read. The characters are realistic and convincing. We took turns reading it while on a vacation and had to take it out of the other's hands! The children in Rebel Cave are portrayed as hardworking and intelligent, but not unrealistically "perfect". The plot kept us both wishing to read the next chapter in anticipation of what the kids were going to discover next. I (THE MOM) appreciated that the book was wholesome and yet appealed to pre-teens. My daughter loved the vivid discriptions of inside the cave, but wished the kids would have made one more trip into the cave before the book ended (we'll just look forward to the sequel!) This is a realistic fiction story, with actual historical facts blended in the text. It is a delight for ages 6 and up!

Sunday Homilies: Cycle C

Valuable Homilies with Illustrative Stories
This is the last in the series of three volumes brought out by Fr Herbert Smith in the direction of short, practical and relevant homilies reflecting upon the three year lectionary cycle of the Catholic Church. This book contains seventyone homilies in order of the Liturgical year of the Church intended for the Sundays and holy days of the year. I found these very captivating and every homily provided some fruit for thought and reflection. These are fruits of deep reflection and prayer and some of them provide unique insights into the readings. His use of illustrative stories throughout the book makes it artistically valuable and some of these stories are humorous and worth remembering. It is indeed a valuable book for those who want to reflect on the Sunday readings regularly.

Great overview of Christian History
Although this is not an in-depth exploration of Christian History, it is a great overview that combines a mix of fact and humor. I really enjoyed reading about how mankind has moved through the passages of time in recognizing the leadership of Jesus Christ and his church. Highly recommended reading for the curious and for those who would like to begin exploring church history rather than relying upon biased "folklore" from their peers.

Tithing is not applicable to the New Testament Believer...
It simply amazes me that ministers, and professed scholars, continue to teach the principle of tithing to New Testament believer's. We are no longer under the old covenant but under the new by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Here's my question: How many times did Paul teach the principle of tithing? Answer: None. Paul preached specifically in Corinthians on the subject of grace giving, not tithing. As New Testament believer's we are to give as we are led by the Holy Spirit. This is important for you to know: Your "Blessing" and the gift of the Holy Spirit come by faith in Christ, and that alone (read Galatians). If you have any further questions and would like the right perspective on this topic please read "Beyond Tithes and Offerings" by Michael Webb. ..

A book highly recommended to all laypersons
I had the opportunity to read this book and I wanted to explain what a blessing it was. Throughout the many years I've atteneded church I heard sermons after sermons on why I should tithe and I've read several books on tithing as well; yet, I never really understood its true meaning until now. I finally understand why tithing is an important step in learning how to give graciously, save diligently, and allow myself to be in control of my finances rather than vice-versa. I am aware that change doesn't always happen immediately, at times we have to be patient and trust in the Lord, but I have been truly blessed to see the many changes tht have occured in my life as a result of tithing. For instance, I have been able to control my spending habits by significantly; I've managed to accumulate money in my savings account; and the best part--money doesn't cause me as much distress as it use to. This book helped shed light on the real purpose of tithing and provided a way for me to live a happier and more stress-relieving life. I highly recommend this book to all laypersons. It truly helped me to understand the importance of tithing.

I Am Excited! My Faith In Tithing Has Been Renued!
I have been battling with tithing for 40 years. Money seams so precious when you have so little of it. However, this book has shown me the reality of tithing and the disceptions those without faith will play upon you. My eyes have been opened and I will no longer let anyone rob me of the riches the Lord has in store for me.

Honour Israel and everyone else too.
A well thought out and sincere book but I wonder if the present evangelical Christian move to embrace Israel is 'balanced'? This is not intended as an anti-semetic statement by the way, I am extremely grateful to the Jews and I also acknowledge that the Lord chose them as the avenue to bring His word to the world. However, Paul wrote in the gospels and I paraphrase,'God has rejected them but at some time a remnant of Jacob will be grafted back into the good olive tree'. We love Israel because we love Christ and the Scriptures but that can blind us to the realism that the doctrine of 'the scribes and the teachers of the law' is alive and well today. Israel should be honoured just because they are human beings because the scriptures tell us to 'honour all people' but we must not be 'partial' for the wrong reasons.

A "must read" for every Christian
This book is very well written, and is a "must read" for every Christian. I also highly recommended it for those strating out on their journey to find the Jewish roots of Christianity. It also has encouraging moments of personal faith in action. I recommend it highly.

A Must-Read For Every Christian
If you have been taught your whole life that every reference in the Bible to Jews is really about Christians - you must read this book. My whole life I've read the Bible and thought I was the "chosen people" and the "Children of Israel". Don Finto has opened my mind in a very exciting way. Whether or not you agree with every single idea here, please give yourself the chance to see God and love the Jewish people as never before. I read this book at the beach and could not lay it down!

Don't think this book is the solution
I've only read about 30 pages, but already I am not satisfied with it. What is this about Jesus somehow being too shy and affected by the labels given to him by those in Nazareth as the reason why He could not perform miracles there? Since when did Jesus become discouraged by what others said of him? I read this book because I am very very chronically shy to the point where I am depressed half the time, but I'm not so gullible as to be pampered by comforting words that are clearly out of line with what I think to be the true meaning of a passage. In other thoughts thus far, I think the author is trying to target too wide an audience, giving it a rather impersonal tone. I will finish it nonetheless, for hope that it bring some advice to me, but truly I think the solution for you and for me comes from a life of prayer and patience and acceptance for who God has made you and that He loves you.

A Godly View of Communicating
If you are a shyness man, this book can help you.
A lots stories, perfect theories, and personal experiences.
The auther's books are full of good insignts and worthy to read.

Too Religious
When I bought this book, I didn't know it had a "religious" theme... I wanted a "spicy" Christmas romance novel... I was very disappointed....

Absolutely Charming!
This is one of those books you grab as you sit in your favorite chair with your coziest throw blanket wrapped around you and a nice hot cup of cocoa. The stories are short and pleasant. This is one you will want to pass around and share. Filled with all the charm and nostalgia of a great holiday reader.
