C# Essentials is for any adapting C /C++ programmer
This is exactly what I was looking for, a book that examines the nuts and bolts of the C# while taking advatage of my C foundation. The book also makes language comparisons to Visual Basic, C/C++, Java, JScript, and Visual Foxpro. I thoroughly enjoyed the historical chapter 1, describing the evolution of programming. General programming concepts like proper use of control flow selection, proper initialization, and passing by reference versus passing by value are covered sufficiently and efficiently. C# language features are made clear with example code. The debugging environment in .NET was also covered, explaining the whole set of menu options for debugging.
You are not going to get any programs of that put together all the concepts, but your going to build the foundation to taking that step on your own. The authors are remarkably clear and to the point, usually giving an example where necessary. I'll be interested to try their C# for Windows Programming book next. A final comment: this is not a reference book, it more of an "adapting to C#" type of book, which serves its purpose to the tee.

Kewl Book
My boy friend at UCLA let me borrow this book, but I finally bought my own copy. This book covers all of the features of C# which is the new Microsoft language.

If you know any C++, you are going to have no trouble with C# espically with this book. They have included a lot of short example programs that help you understand C# programming features.

They really helped me understand arrays in C# because they are totally different than for C++. Also, get ready for this, pointers are not used in C#, so you have got to do things another way. If you are like me, I didn't get along to well with pointers anyway.

Get the book, dude.

May someday come true....Great Read.
Goldsteine elequently describes the differences between the liberal dilemas we all face today. After all, as Goldsteine argues, we are all liberals. What makes us liberal and what is the connection to our past...This book is doomed to become a classic and may even come true to life.

Excerpts from Reviews
"What Goldstene does is beautifully integrate the abstract world of political and social philosophy with the reality of the modern world....An incredibly provocative and thoughtful argument that conceivably could become the center of much concern." -- Issac Kramnick, Cornell University

"Goldstene again demonstrates that he is a leading contemporary radical critic of liberalism." -- Rick Tilman, The Social Science Journal

"This book deserves the widest possible audience, for it might become a minor classic." -- D.M.P. McCarthy, American Studies

"Lately I have read a book that has made me see in a new light the way I have been forming opinions during my life." -- Thomas Griffith, The Atlantic

"One of the most important critiques of liberal thought in recent times." -- Alan Tonelson, The New Republic

"Among...recent radical critics of American liberalism, Goldstene appears to stand alone." -- William B. Hixson, Jr., Commonweal

Amazing Adventures
Richard Platt has written books on a number of subjects as varied as photography, ornithology and smuggling. In this exciting collection of adventure stories, he dramatically recounts the true-life exploits of outstandingly brave individuals who pushed themselves to the limits of endurance.

There are three sections:

Discovery, Conquest and Loot
Dangerous Times in Wild Lands
To the Ends of the Earth and Beyond

Many of the stories are about the restless urge to wander, while others focus on desires to be famous or rich. For some adventurers, the hunger for excitement for life itself is what spurs them on to new territories and challenges.

"In 1963, scientists dug up 1,000-year-old Viking objects in Newfoundland, Canada. This suggests that Vikings-perhaps even "Lucky" Leif Eriksson-really did visit America five centuries before Christopher Columbus." -pg. 7

Adventurers include: Hannibal, Leif Eriksson, Marco Polo, Ibn Battuta, Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Hernan Cortes, Benvenuto Cellini, Miguel de Cerbantes, Moll Cutpurse, Claude Duval, Alexander Selkirk, Blackbeard, James Cook, Alexander von Humboldt, Lewis and Clark, Davy Crockett, Rene Caillie, Lakshmi Bai, Burke and Wills, Ned Kelly, Mary Kingsley, Amundsen and Scott, Manfred von Richthofen, Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, Thor Heyerdahl, Hillary and Tenzing, Yuri Gagarin and Armstrong and Aldrin.

Some of the most interesting stories:

Voyage around the Cape - where it is said Vasco da Gama threw the charts and navigational instruments into the sea and declared he did not need a navigator because God alone was the master and pilot. Days later, they rounded the Cape and turned northward, up Africa's east coast. Having stood at the top of Table Mountain and almost drowned in the ocean in Cape Town, I can say his adventure must have been truly harrowing. The ocean there is wild! After that vacation, we decided to head to safer waters.

The Real Robinson Crusoe - "I am cast upon a horrible desolate island, void of all hope of recovery." -Robinson Crusoe He scanned the horizon for ships until he finally saw the mastheads of two British sailing ships. To his horror, the ship disappeared into the darkness, but he was finally rescued days later.

An African Adventure - Where Mary feels sorry for a leopard and tries to release it. Once the leopard was freed it moved close to her and for a moment she was terrified. After commanding the leopard to go home, it obediently turned and slunk away. A hunter hiding in a tree thought she must be a goddess to command obedience from such a dangerous animal.

The illustrations bring the adventures to life. Each story is filled with gripping accounts of danger, dramatic full-color illustrations and color photographs of people, places and objects that put the stories in historical context.

A Must for Young Adventurers
The Illustrated Book of Great Adventures by George Sharp features a full-color jacket with drawings, paintings and photographs of great adventures. Inside it presents the activities and accomplishments of great adventurers throughout history, including the Viking explorer, Leif Erikson, and astronaut Neil Armstrong. It is very interesting with lots of full-color realistic drawings and paintings on every page to satisfy the most hungry young adventurer. A great picture book!

Full of Facts About These Beautiful Animals
Koalas are one of the most beautiful, gentle and loving animals in the world. Sadly, the population is steadily declining due to the destruction of their natural habitats. This book is a wonderful way to learn about these very intelligent creatures. Full of darling pictures, everyone who picks up this book will instantly fall in love with koalas (who, by the way, are not bears)! Read about their habits, diet and social activities, and you will develop a new appreciation for these fuzzy friends!

Koalas for All
This is a wonderful book on many counts. Information isabundant, so you can use it for reports. But the best part is thedelightful photos of koalas at sleep, play, and the dinner table. I left out "work" because it doesn't seem to be in their vocabulary. One or two of the views of relaxing, snoozing koalas are alone worth the price of the book. Instead of reciting a mantra or meditating to relax, all you need do is look at those photos. A book for all ages.

a delight!!
This is a brilliant insight into the HUMAN condition...MS. Sharp has an analytical and brilliant mind...just a wonderful read! The author's view of a Twain-esque voyage down the river of life is worthy of a Pulitzer in INSIGHT into the complex world of male-female confusion. If an alien landed on the planet earth and wanted to know how homonids function...talk to ANNE!!

Tells it like it is!
Most books and movies about witchcraft are pure fantasy (and usually totally insulting) but this one is REAL. I love Margaret. I wish she was in my coven!

So Adorable
I asked for this book to make things for my Waldorf schooled child or with my Waldorf grade school students if it was simple enough. I think the children over 3rd grade could handle most of the things with help. It is more complicated than I imagined (HAPPILY). I am really tired of making nuthats and the KLUTZ type faries, they are wonderful, but we needed something new! These are not necessarily Waldorf friendly for the purists, but they could certainly be easily adapted to be so! The fairies are terribly adorable. We cannot wait to get started on dragonfly!

One of a Kind!
One of a kind. An exquisite conception, a much wanted and needed craft book that involves the whole family. Crosses all social, economic and cultural boundaries in a most fantastical and dreamy way that I have not seen before! I wish the writer all the best, as she's brought so much to us...............awating her next book!

The Best Book Ever Read to Children!
This is my all time favorite book! When I was a child, I would get so excited about going back to school. Why? I knew on the first day of school, our Librarian would be reading to our class, "Mr. Wiggles". She would have a special "Mr. Wiggles" voice, and we all loved hearing it. When we reached the fourth grade, the Librarian said she'd no longer be reading "Mr. Wiggles" to us. We were so dissapointed, and asked her to continue. We made sure she knew we would never be too old for "Mr. Wiggles". Now that I am grown, and have a young child of my own, I read it to him. It is my son's favorite book, and our favorite time together. This book, and that Librarian, gave me the love of reading. Hopefully, it will do the same for my children. Read this book to your kids, and you will give them the gift of literacy.

Just what an elementary librarian needs!
Mr. Wiggle's Book is a very useful tool for the elementary school librarian who is trying to make sure that children take care of their library books. The illustrations are wonderful and very realistic. I have used this book in a story time situation and the children really thought that someone had written or torn this book. After using this book, the children really seem to enjoy making sure that their library books don't end up like Mr. Wiggle's.

Excerpts from Reviews
"This book--scrutinizing key assumptions that routinely precede and preempt thought about political power--is a notable challenge....A work of ingenuity and unsettling realism....A book of political inquiry that is profoundly serious....Could serve as an important tool for unearthing the realities of present-day repression and laying a solid foundation for democratic life." --Norman Solomon, author and nationally syndicated columnist

"...A remarkable achievement, beautifully crafted and very hard-hitting. It is that rarity--a political science book that really is political. Goldstene throws down the gauntlet. His new book could--and it should--change the way we think and act politically." --Paul Thomas, Department of Political Science, University of California, Berkeley

"A radical reminder of the value of memory...altogether splendid: incisive, evocative and notable for the elegance of Goldstene's vision of science." --Wilson Carey McWilliams, Department of Political Science, Rutgers University

"[Goldstene] is excellent at connecting...events and ideas to the wider frame of Western thought...a stimulating intellect." --Terrell Carver, Department of Politics, University of Bristol, UK

"A very fine piece of work...beautifully written and organized....It is time Goldstene was recognized for what he is: a leading social critic and an original political thinker." --Rick Tilman, Department of Public Administration, University of Nevada, Las Vegas

"...Should be an excellent supplement for most basic and advanced political science classes at the college level." --William Head, Chief, Office of History, USAF

"...Well-written, lucid, incisive and convincing. Goldstene's work makes a significant contribution to the theoretical understanding of revolution. Those across the social sciences who have an interest in revolution, social movements, social change, power and politics will find this work valuable." --James P. Marshall, Social Science Journal

Exceptional
A penetrating analysis of the essential foundations of power in the United States and their pivotal influence on the revolutionary politics of the 1960s. Focusing on the disruptive battle between the ideological impulses of democracy and liberalism, and the crucially different opportunities for human development each affords, the book also takes the reader into twenty-first century America in a cogent and stimulating manner. This volume is a creative and major contribution to theory-as radical as it is intense-as political as it is theoretical. It is a work full of hope, perceiving egalitarian possibilities within what is conceived as an ongoing process of American revolution: a process that can no longer be concealed within the commercial elitism of a dominant liberal world view. This is a development that first found its public voice in the sixties and continues in more muted form today. Here is a must read for those disturbed by a corporatist oppression but who can't identify the fundamental causes of this condition or viable alternatives to it. Extremely well written, the work has the added advantage of being quite brief. The style, moreover, allows for a subtlety of argument that makes the reader think more deeply about the texture of the operative political culture. In the final analysis, this is a book as powerful as the forces it examines, an impressive and novel contribution to American political thought that creates a fundamentally new theory of revolution, and must be recognized for the classic it can become. It is a volume that makes it clear that while reality might be ignored, it cannot be stopped. Highly recommended for anyone seriously concerned about the world they live in and who might appreciate a work that is refreshingly scientific in method and litery in expression.

Ring Bear a must buy!
This is a delightful, thoughtful creation. The author has masterfully pieced together an idea that has come up in the minds of so many youngsters--the misinterpretation of ring bearer as ring bear. This is not only a superb gift for any ring bearer, but it is also a great buy for all children. It is extremely humorous, yet so realistic. A must have!

Whimsically told story artfully supplemented
The Ring Bear by N. L. Sharp is the story of Robert, a young boy who loves bears - real bears and stuffed bears, bears in books and even bear crackers to munch! So when Robert learns that he is to be a "ring bear" in his aunt's wedding he is excited - until he learns that his aunt isn't expecting a real bear! A whimsically told story artfully supplemented with amusing color illustrations by Michael T. Hassler, Jr., The Ring Bear is a welcome and highly recommended addition to school and community library picture book collections for young readers.
