Sharp Sports Betting
I really found this book to be boring. I would recommend this book to a person who does not know anything about sports betting. This book is not for experts. To much basic stuff, like what straight bets, parleys, teasers, ect are. Three quarters of the book explains betting terms. The only one good thing I got from this book is the charts in chapter 13. I found these win loss charts against the spread to be great information. Everything else was weak. Do not buy this book if you are looking for ways to win. I could write a book that would help you do a lot better in handicapping then this book will. There are some great points in this book, but those great points come from other authors. The author gets most of his information from a certain website, so I guess you pay to find that sites name.

Emphasis on Statistics. Good for Beginner to Intermediate.
Sharp Sports Betting is a complete lesson in betting on the NFL. For the beginner, there is instruction on what kind of bets are available and how to place them. And there is detailed instruction on how to handicap sporting events and determine what bets are worth taking using complex statistical analyses. I say that it is a complete lesson in betting the NFL because most examples that the author gives are from the NFL. Much of the book's content can be applied equally to other sports, and the author frequently tells you exactly how to do that. But I would say that it is not a complete lesson in betting on other sports, due to its emphasis on the NFL.

For those unfamiliar with the workings of sports books, Sharp Sports Betting explains how to place bets, money management, calculating what you stand to win on bets, and what types of bets are available, including separate chapters on money lines, over/under bets, props, parlays, and teasers. There is a glossary of sports book terms in the back of the book. And there is a chapter on internet sports books.

Moving beyond the basics, the author lays out his highly mathematical methods of handicapping sporting events and choosing bets. I have to say that I was not at all surprised to find out, on the last pages of this book, that Stanford Wong is also a professional blackjack player. He earned his way through graduate school playing cards. He has written books on blackjack. And he handicaps sports precisely like a blackjack player. I think the cardshark perspective that Wong brings to handicapping sports lends a little extra interest and unique content to Sharp Sports Betting. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the guy is a statistics and probability nut. He doesn't actually make his own lines, so there is no instruction on line-making. He just tells you how to beat the lines that the sports books are offering, using probabilities. At least half of this 384-page book is dedicated to teaching the reader how to calculate probabilities of various things happening in a game -pretty much anything that could happen in a game, actually. I wouldn't know how to begin to explain it, so I won't. In addition to instruction, the author includes a lot of charts which aid you in predicting outcomes, many specifically for the NFL, but some relevant to other sports. There are also 2 appendices with charts of Poisson distribution of events (probabilities), one cumulative and one not. A third appendix contains charts for win-lose-push probabilities.

Sharp Sports Betting is a good introduction to sports betting for the novice. Its very mathematical tone and in-depth instruction on calculating probability make it useful for the intermediate bettor, as well. The author's passion for applying statistics to sports, in the spirit of a card player, may result in some fresh ideas for the experienced handicapper also.

Some good information in this book...
Like the person before me I think Sharp Sports Betting is better for the beginning bettor. This is a pretty thick book which might make you think there is a lot about how to handicap your own games but there really is very little on that subject. The book deals mostly with defining types of bets and only really addresses football specifically. However, the reason I gave this 4 stars is because I liked the mathematical approach to prop bets. It gives you a really good way to figure out if they are worth betting on depending on the payouts by the sportsbook. Also, as another reviewer pointed out, the charts at the end were interesting and gives you a few good angles to bet on football. I would have liked to have seen more on handicapping though and less defining of terms and bets. Overall though, Sharp Sports Betting is a pretty good book. The information is current and also addresses things like internet betting, while providing some interesting websites.

A bit outdated - Does not address new BOP policy
Having found myself in need of guidance in this area I purchased a number of books - all of which claimed to provide "real" information on the realities of inmate life within the Bureau of Prisons. Although the anecdotes in this book are, at times, amusing, the practical information is woefully outdated - I found this out the hard way. Take a look at www.davrie.com. Their stuff is up to date and much more applicable to those who find themselves in this situation.

Very Imformative Book!!
I found the book very informative. I have read the book now 3 times and learn something new each time. I have been accused and sentenced to do time, and this book helped me ease into that state of mind. the suggestions are extremely important for anyone about to imbark into the crazy world of the prison sentence! Thanks!

If you're headed to FPC, this book will get you ready.
You absolutely, positively must buy this book if you're facing FPC time. Clive Sharp's book is the coin of the realm on the subject.

too short for a nicely illustrated barney story..
other than being colorfully illustrated, it's not worth it's price. not only is it too short a story, the lesson about time doesn't seem to teach anything at all. you would rather buy a barney tape than download this e-book.

My Daughter Loves This Barney Book...Too Much; A Nice eBook.
My daughter loves computers and loves Barney (even more I'm afraid), so the two actually go together quite well here. Barney and characters all render very nicely on the Adobe eBook Reader for your PC. Colors and pictures come out great. Also nice because its easy to navigate around in the eBook Reader...so you can read your child the same book over and over again! Bedtime stories will never be the same. Cool stuff, recommended.

At Last
At last, a book that offers an insightful guide to dreams without being patronising or predictable. It contains a comprehensive range of dreams, and makes sense of them on three levels.
First a general kabbalistic interpretation, which often incorporates a psychological observation; second the potential spiritual position of the dreamer, and third, a guide to self-improvement.
The images of each dream are not complicated with distracting and irrelevant detail, therefore it is easy to extract meaning and guidance from the images, which are presented in alphabetical order.
Finally it serves as a useful introduction to the Kabbalah in an authoritative manner without being dry or heavily academic. It is now a book which I refer to again and again.

Deeper than the average dream book
Although its harder to get into than the typical 10,000 dreams interpreted type book, this book does give some very deep analysis of dreams
I found it fun just to read through and dip into as some of the interpretations of the dreams have some good and sometimes quite profound advice just for living in a more spiritual way in general

Sharp-Dressed Men: Zz Top Behind the Scenes from Blues to Boogie to Beards

A look behind the CHEAP SUNGLASSES of a great band.
If you are a longtime fan of ZZ TOP, you must read this book. David Blayney really gets the lowdown on the early days of this Texas band. I found the stories of the early tours hilarious. The off stage lives of Billy, Dusty, and Frank are revealed in this must-have easy reader. If you are a real fan, this book will entertain you. Much was learned about Bill Ham, their manager. Find it! Read it! It's funny.

A real "Pleaser"!
If you are a big ZZ fan, you will rip through this tome in no time. A great glimpse into the band's history. Too bad it's out of print because David Blayney's observations as to the importance of not only talent and chemistry (interpersonal, that is) but how a good/great manager can make or break a band is damn good reading for any musician looking to make a go of it.

But nothing about the Green Toilet Seat Guitar! Have mercy y'all....

Good pictures and helpful pointers
The beginning and intermediate Judo student will be pleased with book. It is a good introduction to the major Judo techniques, starting with the basics such as falling and unbalancing you opponent, and then introducing a number of the more common techniques (throws, sweeps, chokes, and holds). Each technique is accompanied by a number of pictures showing the progression of the moves (including different variations) as well as good explanatory text.

There is good reason that this book has had 48 printings!

A good catalogue of Judo techniques.
This book is an excellent catalogue of Judo techniques with clear photographs showing the different stages of the techniques. I highly suggest buying it.

A little bit of a let down
I am normally a big fan of the black lace anthologies. This latest in the Wicked Words series was a bit of a dissapointment. While the content was ok, most of the stories did not have the usual edge that the earlier antholgies have been known for. It is worth a read (as they all are), there are a few good stories in the collection.

Hot Hot Hot
Another fun, hot collection of Wicked Words. My personal faves were Playtime, The Jewel and Cavern in the Green.
Well done Black Lace. Keem em ...coming.

Impact of Photo Intelligence on Operational Planning
In the 20th century the airplane became the primary platform for aerial reconnaissance, and the experiments of earlier years developed into sophisticated strategic operations. This book details several of the most important operations in World War II from the perspective of the impact of photo-reconnaissance and imagery intelligence on operations. World War II operations covered include the Dambusters Raid, Salerno, Market Garden, Monte Cassino, the Normandy landings, the hunt for and destruction of Germany's V-weapons, and other episodes. Each operation is described in detail, with all the relevent information on how photo intelligence was (or was not) used to influence the mission. "Allied Photo Reconnaissance of World War II" provides a detailed analysis of the nexus of PHOTINT and operational planning and execution. It would serve well as a class text in teaching photo interpretation. If this volume has a major defect, it is the absence of discussion of camouflage, denial, and deception; it is recommended that this volume be read along with Roy M. Stanley II (Col, USAF, ret.), "To Fool a Glass Eye: Camouflage Versus Photoreconnaissance in World War II."
"Allied Photo Reconnaissance of World War II" identifies all the air surveillance and photo reconnaissance units associated with each operation. Illustrated with ground level photography, 200 b/w original air reconnaissance photographs and detailed operational maps, "Allied Photo Reconnaissance of World War II" is a valuable addition to the literature on aerial surveillance, intelligence operations, and the history of World War II.

Great book for young children
This is a great little book for working with young children, who have a hard time talking about their feelings. The removeable stickers allow for the child to interact and express their own feelings over and over again. I also have enjoyed other books in this series that deal with other emotions.

Barbie is annoying, but...
My 6 year old saw this book on clearance and insisted on buying it with her birthday money even though she knew how to read well. It kept her entertained for well over an hour and we both enjoyed the colorful engaging photographs and learned some new words. Any Barbie fan who is an emergent reader might enjoy this, as well as toddlers just beginning to learn their alphabet. We really enjoy DK books. Note: This book is VERY big.
