Mom's Response
My Mother has been working crossword puzzles for as long as I've known her. Since my Father passed away, she has no one to "help" her finish the New York Times puzzles and gets very frustrated. This book was just perfect for her (and me too)! They are the perfect challange for those of us who don't know every state motto or river throughout the world. She just loves this book and asks for more!

Cyberspace & the Use of Force: A critique
Walter Sharp produces one of the first coherent works on Information Warfare (IW), or at least those portions of IW that operate solely through the technological medium of Cyberspace. While the book is designed to persuade that force applied through Cyberspace has a legal foundation, it also provides a layman's introduction to the topic and the reasons why the conduct of military affairs in this new medium has been hotly debated for almost ten years. This is not a book for a general reader, but rather one concerned with new military technology applications.

If you liked Book 1, you'll like Book 2
More of the same, which means more enjoyable back and forth between the different characters and more descriptions of Jung's theories. This is not a dry, analytical essay. It's a nice blend of analysis and creativity in action. [FYI: Devoted basically to a certain stage of a (straight) man's psychology, with no real infusion of the feminine.]

geology road trip? count me in!
Worth the money for the aerial views of the landscape of Southern California alone, this book explains with clarity and charm how the land is put together, and it does it from the passenger seat of your vehicle. The Trip Guides follow major highways and take advantage of cuttings that reveal the layering of the rocks. Superb drawings and annotated photographs enhanced my understanding and showed me what to look for. You will never take the road from LA to Vegas again without looking at the rocks.

Fast & Easy-to-use Guide Organized by Bloom-Time
The focus of this excellent wildflower guide to flowers found in the Smokies is to tell WHERE and WHEN to find them in bloom. The book relies upon color plates for ID and is limited enough (only 144 pages) to allow a quick scan of all the photos when searching to ID that elusive flower. Although not nearly so complete as THE AUDUBON GUIDE TO EASTERN WILDFLOWERS (my overall favorite), this book has become my LOCAL favorite for use during outings in the Smokies.

Wildflower enthusiasts of all types should have this book in their pocket when hiking in the Smokies. It will save you time because it focuses only on about 225 flowers found in the Smokies. If you've located in the book one or two types of flowers in bloom in the area where you are hiking then you'll be within 5 or 6 pages of the correct location for all the other flowers in bloom at that particular time!

Other nice features of the book include the ring binding which allows it to open easily, the manner in which all color plates are on the right side so as to allow thumbing thru in search of the correct plate and the excellent close-up color photos of the flowers.

My primary complaint is that the book doesn't offer photos of MORE species of flowers--hey there are over 1,500 species in the Smokies--but this book is rarely a disppointment for me, an avid wildflower enthusiast who spends at least one or two days/week hiking in the Smokies during warm weather months.

Good Beginner Book
This is another Rookie Reader book for beginning readers. In this book a boy and girl take a walk and tell about all the different clouds that they see. This is more realistic than some other beginning reading books where the words all seem to rhyme but don't necessarily make sense. Definitely a necessity for primary school teacher's libraries.

A great book for Midwest gardeners!
Jo Ellen Meyers Sharp, garden columnist for the Indianapolis Star on Sundays and Tom Tyler, past Extension Educator and horticulturist for the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service in Indianapolis collaborated to pick more than 175 ornamental plants that do well in the Hoosier landscape. Detailed information on each plant including the "when, where and how" to plant is included. Although not every plant that does well in Indiana is listed, this book provides a great starting point. A must for long-time Hoosier residents and new arrivals as well!
