A collection of wonderful excerpts illustrating values.
This book is full of excerpts from little- and well-known books with a soulful commentary behind each one. Characters from The Elephant's Child to Helen Keller learn more about themselves and their surroundings in bits and pieces that might help you to learn a bit more about yourself and your surroundings. Great for family readings or just to yourself or your child. Is also a nice chunky book to hold up bookshelves, if nothing else

Colin Smith- Carlos: Portrait of a Terrorist
Colin Smiths "Carlos: Portrait of A Terrorist" is a gripping non-fiction book about a real life terrorist: Illch Ramirez Sanchez aka Carlos, one of the most dangerous men in the world during his reign. Colin Smith covers the major terrorist acts Carlos and others were involved in such as Carlos' gunning down three French Agents, JRA assault on the French Embassy in Holland, the kidnapping of eleven OPEC oil ministers and much more while giving a detailed description of a how young rich Venezuelan student, became the worlds most wanted man. Book follows a chronological order and at back has index of all the events taking place from 1966 to 1994, as well as having a picture index in middle putting real faces on to names. Since Sept 11, Terrorism has gotten alot of attention and is being combated, this is indepth story of the Worlds most dangerous terrorist (before Osama). A fascinating read, was surprised when I found it had no previous reviews, definetly recommend this book over any other books about Carlos, most of those books are fictional, while this seems to be a very accurate portrayl of the man and the events that took place.

The Castle in Medieval England and Wales

wealth of architectural details on castles
This book contains tons of illustrations of castle layouts and is an excellent source of information on castle architecture. It's focus is on the buildings themselves, rather than the social history, as Francis Gies' Life in a Medieval Castle is. If I had one complaint about the book, it's that some of the photographs are too dark, you loose details. It could just be my copy. But it's very noticable next to the nice, crisp line drawings.

Ogham Revealed
While this is not a classic tarot configuration, it is a must for those interested in Celtic and Druidic divination systems. As a divination tool it is easy to use and amazingly intuative in it's interpretations, making it wonderful for beginners. It uses the ancient Ogham alphabet and it's corelations to the trees and other icons held dear by it's creators, the Celts. While the companion book is not long, it is very informative and concise. Background information on the history of the alphabet is researched in depth with references to many associated resources. This book is an ESSENTIAL reference to druidic symbolism. If one is not familiar with Celtic symbolism, this set will draw you in completely and inspire you to dive head first into this ancient seed of western mysticism.

But most of all, the illustrations and intuative interpretations provided are excellent. While the illustrations do not overwhelm the eye, they do impart a very profound sense of connection to the representation of the letter and it's associated icon. The interpretations are clear without being overly simplistic.

I have had this deck for years and it will always remain one of my very favorites!

Changing Literacies (Changing Education Series)
Published in Paperback by Open Univ Pr (1997)
Authors: Colin Lankshear, James Paul Gee, Michele Knobel, and Chris Searle
Amazon base price: $28.95
Average review score:

Masterful and thoughtful book on post-critical perspectives.
Changing Literacies is composed of three parts: (1) critical literacy and cultural perspectives; (2) literacy and social justice; and (3) literacy, new technologies and old patterns. Within these three parts, the book explores inter and trans-penetrations of the pedagogical and the popular. Locating "critical" as "an essentially contested concept" (p. 42), Colin Lankshear presents an impressive work on post-critical perspectives. Post-critical because the book moves beyond an analysis of the ways in which human possibility has been impeded by educational theory and practice. The book provides a deep analysis about the ways in which capitalism swallows any attempt of democracy and social emancipation and how this process is connected to the new "work" order. At the same time, the book offers new horizons of critical perspectives in which language, technologies, and re-conceptualizations of social constructions move us beyond the realm of realities. Colin Lankshear and co-authors James Paul Gee and Michele Knobel deserve, without hesitation, outstanding recognition for this book.

Mystery, humor, psychology and more with 110% entertainment.
Reading Colin Watson's Flaxborough mysteries will make you feel as if you had lived in the town all your life. You'll see the Flaxborough citizenry through the eyes and in the mind of inspector Purbright not as a panoptikum of criminal suspects but as your neighbors. Watson puts peoples actions, motives and feelings into such a perspective that along with the pure reading entertainment, one could use it as a textbook for Psychology 101 class, yet you will laugh out loud on every other page.

Check-lists for solicitors

An Excellent Aid To Legal Practitioners
I run my whole practice on the basis of checklists. Believe me, it's the only way of doing things properly. Unless you have an absolutely perfect memory, you will need checklists for conveyancing for things like file maintenance, auditing for exchanges and completions, and the adequacy of leases.

The other benefit is that if you are away or someone else needs to look at the file, they can see at a glance what needs to be done and what has been done. The checklists in this book are not perfect, and everyone has their own idiosyncrasies, so you will need to update these lists to take into account your own needs. nevertheless this is highly recommended, particularly to conveyancers.
