Glad I don't have to carry ASDG2 around
I purchased the pocket reference at Flash Forward and have found it very useful. ASDG2 is still a must have but the reference is very good to keep with you on the go. I read through the book on the flight back and realized some things I had forgotten (I think some of it is a new addition from ASDG2). It is also very good to use if you are constantly in an external editor and don't want to flip through a big book for reference.
Great little reference.. I'm surprised it took this long :)

Aesthetics

Average review score:
entertaining as well as educational
This book was core reading for the aesthetics module of my philosophy major and I found it to be an engrossing read. Having seen Colin lecture in person it was fantastic to see that the man's colourful and creative intelligence had been well captured onto the page. His style is one that constantly challenges you to think for yourself and I found this book to be an excellent tool, teaching me how to dig out and sculpt my raw feelings on art. Informed, lively and, considering the fair depth he goes to on thinkers such as Benedetto Croce, a pleasantly flowing and illuminating read.

Magnificent and Hilarious
Lewis Carrol's stories: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass are amazing stories with hilarious lines and trickery. Complete fantasy with dim-witted and funny characters that can outsmart Alice, but not even themselves! Alice's adventures are fantastic and any fantasy lover should take this opportunity in an instant! (Humpty Dumpty makes sense of the Jabberwocky poem!) If you want to laugh hard, read Alice's Adeventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass.

essential for the latter-day armchair explorer! And no bugs.
This beautiful book was published in conjunction with the exhibit of the same name which was on view at the Bavarian State Library in Munich, Germany, from 10 April to 27 June 1992. It has 92 full color illustrations, 96 duotone illustrations, along with text by some of the world's foremost scholars of 16th century cartography.
Included is the oldest surviving map of America, drawn by Juan de la Cosa in 1500; Gerardus Mercator's 1569 world map, which was the first to use parallel lines of latitude and longitude, plus dozens of others. Indexed and bibliographed.

Excellent resource for Social Studies teachers.
As a Social Studies teacher at a Middle School I found this book valuable as a resource to share the events and stories of the American Revolution with my students. The book is readable and provides the inside story on key events that shaped the American Revolution and our country. I recommend this book to anyone interested in American Revolution history and especially to teachers searching for insights to share with their students.

clever and intriguing
This book is a must for all those children who are eager to know more. It's easy to read and keeps the children interested untill the end. My seven year old daughter read it and "played" it for two hours, untill she solved the mistery. I will buy more titles!

In this work Gunton deftly explicates the "tangled web" of relations between Greek Philosophy and the Christian tradition, showing how the latter has adversely effected the former. He then proceeds to unpack the theology the attributes by returning to the biblical narrative and trinitarian doctrine and the primary framework for constructing such a theology. He is highly critical of Aquinas and the medieval synthesis of Neoplatonism and Aritotelianism with Christian theology. This leads to a rejection of the Thomistic doctrine of analogy, instead arguing from a nuanced Barthian theology of revelation that owes much to Scotus for a pneumatological doctrine of univocal theological language. Gunton's case is lucid, persuasive, provocative and bears significant implications for future discussions of the nature of theological language and the divine attributes.
Gunton pays special attention to the doctrines of divine simplicity and impassibility as well as discussions of omnipotence, omnipresence, infinity and omniscience. Through a rejection of the negative way and an affirmation of a trinitarian theology of revelation Gunton masterfully cuts to the root of many of the problems of ancient and modern treatments of the doctrine of God. This is truly the strength of Gunton's work. While other contemporary treatments of the attributes tend to "prune" off certain undesirable attributes, such as impassibility and simplicity, Gunton instead retains the classical attributes of the tradition, by redefining them in positive trinitarian terms.
Act and Being is saturated throughout with a focus on the christological and pneumatological dimensions of the Triune God's economic action in the world. Following in Barth's path and expanding on his innovations (as well as criticizing him at key points) Gunton masterfully brings the person and work of Christ and the Holy Spirit to bear on the doctrine of the attributes. This book is an amazing discussion of the attributes discussing them in a properly nuanced narrative and trinitarian context. This is definitely a landmark study on the attributes.
Whatever else one may think of this work, one thing is certain, this is an insightful and groundbreaking work clearing the way for many future discussions of the attributes. A must read for any serious student of theology. We can only be sorry that the distinguished theological career of Professor Gunton was cut short and that he will be unable to follow through on his projected systematic theology. We can only hope that those he taught and mentored will continue in his wake, following up on the magnificent project that he began.
