The Single Best Mustang Book Available
As a mustang owner, I have a shelf full of mediocre mustang publications - they either tend to be "fluffy" picture books, or broad based overviews, covering a large period, but offering very little detail.

Original Mustang 1964.5-1966 takes the most ideal approach to the subject. Focusing exclusively on the first 2.5 model years, Mr. Date is able to focus his efforts. The photos are varied and of high quality, and tend to be of unrestored california cars - offering unprecedented insight into originality. This is a refreshing approach as mustang originality can be a difficult thing to pin down.

There is extensive info on VIN decoding, color options, etc., much of which is admittedly widely available, but if I were able to have only one mustang book, this would be the one.

Outstanding Restoration Guide
It takes only a few minutes leafing through Mr. Date's book to realize the wealth of information contained within. It is a help to the first timer as well as to the experienced Mustang restorer. The book contains many fantastic photo examples of the various models of the Early Mustangs ('64 1/2 - '66). It is a welcome addition to my collection of Early Mustang books and Restoration Guides.

Fine photography
Outstanding photography

I sent this book as a gift to my brother, who is a printer. He thought that pains had been taken with the photography to produce such fine prints. He compared it to another book of Restoration painters that he had once bought at the Guggenheim, having been thrilled with the original exhibition, but said that the Restoration photography had been careless and therefore did not print well, whereas the Hermitage collection exhibited outstanding photography. I didn't buy books that were available in St. Petersburg at the Hermitage because they didn't look good, but these were both beautiful and plentiful. I can't comment on the accompanying text, as I didn't read it.

A BEAUTIFUL TOUR OF THE HERMITAGE GALLERY!
I had very high expectations from "Paintings" when I ordered it, and they were all met! The volume contains beautiful fine quality, mainly full-page reproductions from the famous collection. "Paintings" is a beautifully designed, very substantial size volume which also offers Colin Eisler's very informative yet not imposing style of writing with which she guides us through the many periods of western art and the history behind Catherine the Great's collection. I, a Russian, can only appreciate the thoroughness with which the Hermitage collection is compiled in the "Paintings." I bought it along with "Paintings in the Louvre," both volumes are of the same format as if in the same series and will always be our priceless source for admiring some of the world's most treasured canvases.

Wonderful story of the resillience of nature
This is the first book that I ever saw of Colin Thompson's and became enchanted with his detailed illustrations. I could look at his work for hours discovering something new everytime. He has also written a beautiful story to go along with his illustrations. This is one of those classic books you want to keep forever.

The Paper Bag Prince Brings Family Together
My daughter brought home "The Paper Bag Prince" by Colin Thompson, from our trip to the library. What a delightful surprise when we sat down together to read it. The story itself is wonderful; it teaches children how nature works so hard to repair human polution, how the main character never lost sight of what was important in life (nature and home) and it demonstrates caring and compassion.

But the best is yet to come. Along with this story is the most wonderful illustrations. Not only did we play "I Spy" on each page, but the illustrations make your eye and mind work so hard, you cannot help but be entertained.

I have turned to Amazon to order my own copy, and look forward to sharing this artistic work with my nieces as well. This is a keeper! Bravo!

Disturbing, funny, and wonderful
If you haven't discovered Harpur and Iles, you owe yourself a treat.

ACC Iles's concept of a controlled city where drugs are handled locally and violence is kept off the streets is threatened by his boss, Mark Lane's desire for a crusade against crime, by one of his officer's apparent double-dealing (the Pay Days of the title), and by an outbreak of murder within the untrusting mobs that control the drug business. As usual, Detective Chief Superintendent Harpur is the only one who will face the moral dilemnas and try to achieve a solution.

Author Bill James does a wonderful job detailing the fine line between police and criminal--their similarities are disturbing. His deft touch for dialogue made me laugh and cringe at the same time. Panicking Ralph Ember, in particular, has become something of a friend as well as a monumental villain.

Harpur and Iles is a great series and this is a great example.

I appreciate your helpful vote.

Another Harpur & Iles Winner
As a mystery writer with my first novel in its initial release, I enjoy the books in this series written by Bill James. In PAY DAYS, James has pulled it all together once again. Harpur and Iles are in familiar form, struggling through their unorthodox crime-solving partnership. So are our heroes' criminal rivals Ember and Shale. James has a plot here featuring a possibly turncoat cop who no one on either side of the law knows whether or not he can be trusted. In PAY DAYS, Bill James does what Bill James does as well as any other writer working today. If you enjoy this type of mystery, read this book soon.

My personal favorite of the BFI monographs
Most of the books in the BFI Film Classics series have addressed films that have already received a great deal of critical attention; Colin MacCabe's book on Performance is unique in this respect. Performance is a film that has often been overlooked; finally someone has begun to rectify this. MacCabe not only provides a detailed history of the film, he acts as its champion (not only here but elsewhere as well), He gives a detailed analysis here of the film's revolutionary approach to such themes as crime, gender, magic, and identity, and, in doing so, supports his thesis brilliantly: that Performance is a unique, radical, intelligent film in the British cinema, and deserves more respect than it has received. MacCabe also goes beyond most of what has already been written on the film by addressing the Mick Jagger/Anita Pallenberg/Rolling Stones presence, but not treating it as the most important aspect of the film. I love the BFI classics series, but this book is exceptional even among that group. Colin MacCabe has written an important work of film criticism and film history. Hopefully his book will draw the attention of others to the importance of this film (a Criterion DVD would be nice!) and make it a cinema classic, rather than just a highly underrated cult piece.

My personal favorite of all the BFI monographs
Most of the films featured in the BFI Film Classics series are acclaimed and have had volumes of criticism already written on them. Don't get me wrong, the BFI books are brilliant, but rarely has a critic been so willing to put himself out on a limb as Colin MacCabe has done for this book. Performance is a film that has been too often overlooked, and MacCabe not only provides a detailed history (addressing many of the myths about the film in the process) and intelligent criticism, but also acts as the film's champion in the process; MacCabe, more than any other writer, has finally brought this film to critical attention. He discusses the film's revolutionary approach to such concepts as crime, gender, magic, and identity.

A Child's Pleasure
The simple text and artwork captivated my daughter. The sturdy hard board is great for a toddler. Another one of her favorite books.

From protozoa to UFO's
There's no question Wilhelm Reich was a paranoid whose disease escalated into a full blown perecution mania. The question is whether the most colorful of Freud's "heir apparents" actually discovered something of vital importance before going nuts.

Colin Wilson argues that he did. Reich followed the 'scientific method' to the letter, starting with experiments involving microbes and working up to UFO's.

Skeptics argue that his cultures must have been contaminated, and that time lapse photography showing stars moving but unknown objects standing still during the night are inconclusive.

But the hidden argument is that one shouldn't trust a madman, no matter what his methodology may be. Which is rather beside the point, especially when Reich was not alone. Others corroborated his results. Were they deluding themselves as well?

Wilhelm Reich had an atypical childhood. As a teenager he caught his mother having an affair and, after a delay which might have involved an attempt to sexually blackmail her, he finally informed his father. His mother committed suicide. Hardly a promising beginning for a psychotherapist.

Yet he rose from the ranks by his genius to become Freud's number one apostle, a post 'vacated' by Jung.

Freud was pained by reductionist charges ('Is there ANY mental illness that doesn't involve repressed sex, herr doctor? ) and documented clinical cases to justify his arguments to his critics. He demanded and expected all of his followers to back him up.

Reich backed him up with a vengeance, he became even more of a reductionist than Freud---in itself no mean feat! But he added a strange spin, which to Reich seemed the next logical step of Freud's sexual theory.

Colin Wilson recounts that Freud was essentially a classical pessimist. He believed human beings were the playthings of the gods and fates ( re-named the 'ID' and the 'Death Wish'). On the other hand, Reich was a romantic optimist who believed that the libido had supreme healing power.

He was a throwback to Bergson's 'Life Force' and Mesmer's 'Animal Magnetism'.
With Reich, orgasms not only cured everything from neurosis to warts, they produced "Orgone Energy" the vital building block of life in the universe!

...P>
An enjoyable and illuminating biography that credits Reich for advances in psychology, especially his discovery of 'Character Armor'

Wilson documents many cases in which half an hour of Reichian therapy produced better result than months of classical psychoanalysis.

Perhaps someone, somewhere should submit his more outlandish claims to crtical study?

Is there a scientist in the house?

A concise analysis of the work and personality of Dr. Reich.
As a fan of Colin Wilson and a person with an interest in Wilhelm Reich, I was delighted to find a used paperback of this in a bookstore. Throughout the text Wilson brings forth a picture of a brilliant, but increasingly egocentric man. He finds fault in Reich's personality without letting this color his opinion on the work itself. A definite must-have for Reich researchers and enthusiasts.

This study guide is awesome!!
I just love this guide. I use it every day to start my day at work. It really gets me to meditate on God's wonderful word. It is so great, that I am buying it for a friend.

Kudos!
This book revolutionized my own Bible study time. The Quiet Time Companion uses several different approaches to freshen up personal study times. Weekly sessions may study a single passage, a character, or a word. Other sessions will look at the same passage from several different perspective or will spend two or more weeks on an indepth study of a section of scripture.

This multi-themed approach keeps your Bible study from becoming routine. You will not find a three month study of Leviticus. It cuts down on the theological/philosophic mumbo-jumbo giving straight but not dumbed down look at the Word of God.

Another innovative approach the authors used in creating this devotional aid is that the weekly sessions are composed of 5 lessons, giving you 2 days of individual study (the authors do make some suggestions) but this is an excellent opportunity to work in preparing your Sunday School lesson during the weekend personalized study.

The authors are to be commended! Bravo!

Find that Bible passage fast!
If you vaguely remember a Bible passage, but can't recall the exact text or location, this is the one book that will find it for you. It goes way, way beyond that standard concordance in the back of your Bible. And of course, like any good thesaurus, you'll be fascinated at the connections that it makes between different verses by showing how they deal with similar concepts. Each entry includes a short phrase from the actual verse, so you can quickly zero in on exactly the concept you're seeking. I have used this reference extensively as a lay liturgist and in developing youth group curricula for teenagers, as well as for personal study.

This is a must for every library!
Rogets Thesaurus of the Bible

I find this book most helpful in meeting my needs for study, for answering questions, for writing, and for sharing the gospel. This book is of great value and I feel that every library ought to have it. As much as it is a book filled with knowledge, it has also been an encouragment to me, and has help me to keep my enthusiasim for research- and has greatly helped my research to be productive and quick. I own concordances and encyclopedias of the bible, and handbooks of the bible, etc... but when I am looking for that specific scripture on a subject, and unsure what exactly it is... I turn to the Roget's Thesaurus of the Bible first and find just what I need. Because of it's availability, and its easy use, I have been able to bless others with the Word of God with the references that are at my fingertips. Sincerely, Debra HisMouse@aol.com

Colin Powell is great, and so is this book
This book tells you every detail of the wonderful history of Colin Powell. This book is a must. YOU must book this book!!!! I read it, and you should. This book tells about the responsibility, courage, and bravery one single American had.. This is a great book to read during this time of tragedy, because it tells you the whole life of one of our American heroes that are working their behinds off, and helping President Bush a bunches! If you want to buy a book, then buy this book.

Facinating man who talks the talk and walks the walk.
I don't usually read biographies, however, I have always been interested in this man and his rise through the ranks of our military.

David Roth did a fine job, but then his subject was worthy of his efforts. I am most impressed with Colin Powell, and was glad to have had the opportunity to read about him from his childhood through his White House years. I am even more impressed after having read his life story, though we all know, he has so much more to give and so many more roads yet to travel. He is a most impressive man, a man who must be counted with other great leaders, a benchmark of success, and a man that all American's can be very proud of. From his humble beginnings to a distiguished military career, he has left his mark on world history with firm guidance and much forethought. How very lucky we are to have had him in this time and place shaping world policies.

A most enjoyable book to read!
