Masterful
In her novel, "When You Wish Upon A Star," Nancy Marie paints word pictures for her readers of the hatred and obsessiveness that foster abuse. Using authentic dialogue and realistic action the author also paints word pictures of what true love is and should be. Nancy Marie displays her superb talent as a writer as she leads readers through a gamut of emotions from horror and fear to laughter and love. Her insight into the emotions that keep the abused with their abuser until that ultimate final burst of courage that allows them to "get out" as well as her insight into the mindset of the abuser makes "When You Wish Upon A Star" a powerful narrative. Readers will easily identify with the mental and emotional turmoil of the abused as she strives to turn her life around and struggles to discover and experience true love.
Beverly J Scott author of Righteous Revenge

Midwest Book Review - wonderful book, gifted writer
"Starlight, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight." That is Paige Brookheart's quiet whisper of hope as this touching and troubling story of an abused woman begins. Far from being a stereotypical romance, Nancy Marie has made it into much more with her distinctive writing style.

As Paige escapes a violent husband with their daughter, Becky, the scent of blood permeates their battered vehicle. Paige sees her blood soaked clothing, and her numbed mind barely recalls the violence they narrowly escaped alive. When her car breaks down on an isolated mountain road, the kindly seeming Lance Parrish comes to their rescue. Lance has secret sorrows of his own, hiding just beneath his calm appearing surface. The sight of the badly beaten Paige and her four year old daughter touches him in ways nothing has reached him in a long, long time. He's drawn to her quiet pride, her trembling vulnerability, and wonders what kind of life she must have lead up to the point they meet.

I loved this book. Nancy Marie has created a portrait of the cowardice and courage that lives within abusive marriages. Paige has far more courage than she imagines, despite her insecurity and mistrust of all things male. The horror of her past life does not end with the chance meeting of the strong, decent Lance and his extended family. Nor does she fall easily into love with this fine man. When her ex-husband is driven to revenge by his insanity, the reader will fear for everyone, including Paige and her daughter, the family dog, Lance, and anyone he loves.

This was a mystery, a thriller, and a love story rolled into one. Pulling it together and making it work was accomplished by an author who knows a thing or two about effective writing. This is a wonderful first novel by a gifted writer.

"Wow! What a great story!"
"When You Wish upon a Star," by gifted storyteller Nancy Marie, is such a great story! I was pulled into the scheme of things right from the first chapter and literally glued to my seat during the entire read of the story. The characters are so true to real life it was amazing. The dialogue well-written, and the plot had me on the edge of the seat that I was glued to from cover to cover while reading the book. The story was real enough without being predictable and kept me guessing from one scene to the next. I thought Ms. Marie did an admirable job on this book and I look forward to reading more of her books in the very near future. (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED NOVEL!)

An excellent converation piece
I visited the MOBA at its cinema basement location in Massachusetts, and was enchanted. I am so glad that this book came out to help make the collection visible to a larger audience. Like bad poetry (see "Pegasus Descending" by Waldrop), bad art at its best is unbelievably hilarious. Some bad art is merely bad, but the utter sincerity with which the works in this collection were painted accounts for much laughter. If by some chance you can't tell why the thing is so bad, there are helpful titles and captions by the authors to explain it to you. My favorite is one called "Pals," in which a sad clown with five o'clock shadow is comforted by a monkey that has "Bette Davis Eyes!"

A Feast for the Soul
The Museum of Bad Art is a long overdue book, and I was so happy to finally get a copy. This is the one art exhibit I would gladly pay to see in person.

Wonderful
This is incomparable bathroom reading of the highest order. Do not read in public as your laughter will undoubtedly mark you as insane.

the CATECHISM OF THE YEAR !
VERY INFORMATIVE CATECHISM ! Good for people to study
all the time....I am new to the faith and have to contstantly
pull something up and this book helps out. some things are little
old like the Mass but that is stuff that anyone can use some reason to delete through study......all the information covered is necessary for a well rounded faithful soul.
but its a 5 star book.
I recommend this catechism to everyone.
thanks for making the book availabe AMAZON.COM at a very
good price.

Beautiful, reverent, clear, orthodox
If there is one Catholic catechism I can recommend to the whole family, it's this one. The Catholic faith is explained clearly and beautifully in 193 sections that cover everything a Catholic needs to know in order to live his Faith to the fullest. Beautiful pictures and illustrations grace each section of this catechism, and easily understandable explanations clearly show what Catholics believe and why. In each section there is an abundance of quotes from the Holy Scriptures. This is a truly beautiful hardcover edition that's definitely worth the price. Should be in every Catholic household. Completely authoritative. Well indexed. Republished from the 1954 edition.

A Great Resource to True Roman Catholic Teaching
Unlike post vatican 2 catechisms and the novus ordo mess which have corrupted the Catholic Faith this book provides a true prospective on unerrant and uncorrupted Catholic teachings.
I would recommend this book for those interested in learning about or preserving their Catholic faith, outside of which there is no salvation.

Misbeliefs be gone
Telling Yourself the Truth has been a book that has gone a long way toward helping me retrain my thinking. I'm starting to see that so much of our reactions to life arise out of the self-talk that goes on inside our own heads. Unfortunately, a lot of that self talk is based upon our past experiences and hurts and we tend to see every situation filtered through those past events. But a lot of the time, this filter that we use doesn't apply and thus it creates a lie or misbelief. Telling Yourself the Truth helps set us free from these misbeliefs and starts helping us see things without the chains from our past.

In my case, I have been struggling with recovering from a divorce. Having failed in marriage, I had conditioned my thinking about relationships and marriage with the feelings of failure and a fear that any relationship was doom to failure. I was afraid to try again and afraid to even be vulnerable. Teaching myself to tell myself the truth and not buy into the fear and doubt and lies of my self talk is a journey that I've begun with the help of this book.

Telling yourself the truth
After reading a countless number of christian self help books, I still struggled with much anxiety, fear, depression & anger. I finally broke down & went to see a christian counselor. He recomended that I read this book. Although I got the version with the workbook included. I don't know if this one has the workbook. Anyway, for me this book provided me with ground-breaking truths of God's word & helped me to identify the silly & absurd misbeliefs I had been telling myself for years! I would reccomend that everyone read this book. If your honest a bout wanting to change & willing to devote an hour or so each day for six weeks, this book WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!

ABSOLUTELY A MUST- READ
This book was given to me, by my Pastor, nineteen years ago after I suffered an immense personal tragedy. I have read and re-read it a dozen times and continue to be amazed by it's healing and straight-forward approach. No matter what situation you find yourself in, this book can help you evaluate your emotions honestly and bring clarity. THIS IS THE GREATEST TOOL FOR OVERCOMING DEPRESSION I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS.

Medicine as Art
This book allows the layperson to understand and appreciate the powerful and the subtle, not to mention the sublime. It has introduced me to a very old medicine as art.

Before reading Eva-Marie Lind's "Aromatiques" I was a bit of a naysayer about aromatherapy..."smells nice" kinda person. I received the book as a gift and devoured it, everyone in my household has enjoyed it. We have tried some of the suggestions and now are aware of how everyday as well as exotic aromas affect our moods, health and well being.

inspiring and beautifully written
this book was a wonderful place to begin my relationship with aromatherapy. it is elegantly written and made me aware of so many things we can do to take care of our body, our minds, and our hearts!

Great to begin
I loved this book. As a person who is interested in Aromatherapy, the authors advise gave me detailed information about the benefits of this time-honored therapy.

Plug in Drug

The Plug-In Drug/Television, Children, and the Family
Excellent. A must read for parents of kids of all ages.It is really well written and should make a responsible parent a believer. Kill the TV before it kills your kids brains or at least be very selective as to what they watch.

helps in understanding children
For a long time I have been discouraged in my efforts to establish two-way communication with children. I would bring books, toys, and games to social functions and share them with children. Once one activity was over, the children would stare at me, waiting for me to start another activity. Why won't they provide any input of their own? Am I overpowering them without realizing it?

This book explained everything: the children think I'm a television!

Should television be classified as a dangerous drug?
This book is about the effects of television on children and families. The use of television starts innocently enough.Too often TV is used as a child minder so that parents can get some peace and quiet: to prepare meals, so that Mom and Dad can sleep in at week-ends, etc.But dangers lurk in this innocent scenario. Before long, the kids are hooked on watching, and parents are hooked on a device for having the kids out of the way.Marie Winn aptly calls TV a drug. Many parents are aware of the dilemma, but often they are and the kids too hooked to break the habit.Winn explores the process of this addiction and the harm done to vibrant human living. For example, excessive TV viewing hampers the personal and social development of the child, so some mothers get a job to escape from their maladjusted kids!Winn offers helpful advice to families trying to cope with TV.She gives examples of the benefits families have experienced when they went without TV, such as increased family interaction, more creative and satisfying activities, doing various things that had been put of, and so on.Marie Winn gives many examples from family life which add great interest to this thoughtful and helpful book.

Intimate Memories, Labor-intensive Recipes
Do get this book if you are a big Frida Kahlo fan. Her step-daughter's memories are somewhat interesting; it's a good read that sits with dignity on either a bedroom night stand or the coffee table or the cookbook shelf.

Don't get this book if you want to start to learn Mexican cooking. It's not a beginner's cookbook!

Do get this book if you have kitchen help and/or if you have some experience with Mexican ingredients (and access to them) and Mexican recipes/dishes. In Asia I have succeeded in making the smothered pork sandwiches (associated with a baptism Frida attended) and some of the other simpler recipes.

If you like the format of Like Water For Chocolate, you'll like this special book. Nicely illustrated with photos of all the food in beautifully styled presentation.

Bonus for art lovers: the cover and some of the illustrations are re-creations of paintings by Frida... tour de force still-life photography!

¡Que aprovechen!
If you are looking for a great Mexican traditional cookbook, look no further. These mouth-watering recipes are grouped by occasions for which they are served, so the reader will also learn about the traditional Mexican fiestas celebrated all year round. What gives the book another dimension, is that these are the recipes that were prepared in Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera' "Casa Azul" in Coyoacán! The numerous anecdotes and the extensive selection of pictures also featured in the book make it an excellent choice, whether you are solely interested in Mexican cooking, or looking to read about the fascinating couple Rivera and Kahlo were and continue to be. If you are considering this book for a gift, beware! You will end up keeping it for yourself...

A visual and gustative fiesta!
This book is a true sensory experience. From the first page on, your senses will be teased by the wide array of mouth-watering recipes, organized by fiesta type (which will simplify your search once you go back to prepare one of them), the anecdotes will nourish your imagination and the exceptional photographic work provide for an exceptional visual experience. More than a simple cookbook, it is a passport to a great cultural experience. One can also discover in the book a nice set of views about the famous Blue House in Coyoacan near Mexico-City, once residence of the famous couple Frida Kahlo-Diego Rivera, nowadays a museum. The authors are to be commended for their work, as this book, beyond a mere cookbook, provides a very intimistic view of the house and the lives of its inhabitants, without making the reader feel like a "voyeur". but rather like a guest. It is the "most often picked and looked at" book of my cookbook collection, and I have noticed several of my friends had ended up buying their own copy. There definitely is something about htis book...

Simple reading and contains lots of racing action....
THE RED COLT is a very exciting chapter book for horse lovers; esp. Thoroughbred race fans. It has interesting characters, and is great for ages 8 up... adults too. Your kids and you will love it. My 10 yr. old actually sleeps with the darn book! Well worth the low price... Quite a memorable story. A must read....

A wonderful and loving story!
Primarily written for children of all ages, but as a grandmother
of eight, I've read it myself more than once and love the bonding
between the teenage girl and the colt. Obviously the author knows horses and loves them very much. She includes a lot of exciting racing action and keeps you in suspense until the very end to find out if you will have a smile on your face or tears in your eyes. Hopefully there will be a sequel!

Turn Your Shine On!
Tonya Marie Evans' talent is a bright, steady light. Her Shine! Inspirational Poetry with Companion CD was my first introduction to the Spoken Word genre and I believe our "acquaintance" was meant to be. Not only did her expressive and melodic voice captivate me, but the messages in poems such as "I Will Tell Myself," "Angry Doesn't Live Here Anymore," and "Find Your Own Shine" inspired me to "begin again." The CD was so awesome that it got my creative juices flowing and I've returned to writing poetry. Tonya Marie Evans's words will affirm, encourage, and help you to turn your shine all the way on!

MY SPIRIT IS AWAKENED
Inspirational and Finding My Own Shine are not words I
associate with poetry. I thought poetry was rhymes
like, Roses are red, violet are blue, sugar is sweet
and so are you. I am truly grateful that the author
has given me another view of poetry. The poetry in
Shine encourages you to look inward.

Shine is a divine influence. After reading these 48
pages it is my ambition to be 100% of me. A favorite
of mine is titled I Will Tell Myself, I plan to read
this poem whenever others try to define who I am. The
fourth paragraph of I Will Tell Myself read: "I am not
confused - I am convinced that I have greatness within
and I am Superwoman able to leap TALL DECEPTION in a
single bound", wow is all I can say to that.

This author doesn't stop there, she has included the
spoken word as well. This CD is one you do not want to
be without, complementing her poetry is Neosoul and
funk. This blend of music fits perfectly with her
words. Angry Don't Live Here No More is "Da Bomb"I
would love to ride to Philly and be a part of the
audience where she "melts the mic" with her poetry.
Evans' multimedia book is for the whole family. I plan
to read from it at my Black Light Open Mic this month.

shine deluxe edition
I thought the spoken word cd along with the book was excellent I saw Tonya perform in Chicago in the Summer of 2001 at Romains Gallery in Oak Park, Il. She definitely writes from the heart. The poetry is so powerful and uplifting. I would recommend any one to purchase. My favorites are I will tell myself and shine. The whole cd is wonderful and its nice to be able to read the book as you listen to the cd. I think I have it memorized now. I have had people stop me and ask what are you listening to and where did you get it from. I tell them with a smile. If you are into poetry and would like to have a taste of some true talent I would suggest purchasing the shine deluxe edition.
