Great Reading for the Lego Fanatic
My five year-old is not a big reader. So, I was very excited when I saw this book at the school Book Fair. He sat with me the whole time, asking questions about the pictures. The storyline is very simple. The Lego people are building a bridge. The Brickster robs a nearby bank and hides in the crane bucket, where he gets trapped when the crane breaks down. Brickster has to be rescued by the fire department. The Lego people finish their bridge and everybody lives happily ever after, except for Brickster.

Preschool Lego fanatic must read
If your 4-year-old is into Legos, be prepared to read this four or five times a day. The pictures are excellent and illustrate all the action of the City Center set. Our one complaint is that Lego does not make the Brickster character from the book which is essential in playing out the action in the book. We made do with an extra construction worker standing in for the Brickster. We love this book. It is a perfect companion for the City Center Lego set.

Great Reading!
Wonderful narrative of a difficult time in America. Such perspective of events from close to home. I recommend this to anyone who appreciates history unrevised and truthful.
T. Addison

An experience to read
This book is based on a diary which the author began in 1927, when she was 15 and a farm girl in North Dakota, and covers the years from 1927 ro 1937. She worked very hard and lived in grinding poverty. She went to college and then taught school and fended off marriage proposals, and never in the book says a good word for the man she married--who was courting her thru the last years she was keeping her diary. This I found to be quite a book, unpretentious as it holds itself out to be. A most moving account of a time and place one seldom hears about. I recommend it unreservedly.

Early Literacy: The Empowerment of Technology

A "must-read" for teachers of all grade levels
Dr. Casey presents compelling anecdotes of the real experiences of many children who have been transformed by the use of the "talking computer." That's what makes this book stand out from the pack of other comupter-in-the-classroom works. She espouses an even higher technology which replaces and surpasses the use of computers as alternate work papers. The word-sound connection, which has been proven to be of paramount importance in several recent studies, is experienced in realtime with visual, kinesthetic and aural feedback. Not content to stop with her own observation and experience, which is impressive, she collaborates with colleagues from several countries in Europe to prove the efficacy of her methods across cultural and language barriers. The outstanding results should raise some eyebrows, not only among classroom teachers, but in the hallowed halls of administration, and at the state government level. Many current problems such as bilingual education, increasing functional illiteracy and dropouts could be easily solved by the methods presented here. A useful appendix ennumerates websites, online sources, software and reviews. Highly recommended for those dedicated to the belief that Johnny CAN read, if given the right tools.

A must read for teachers who want to implement technology.
Dr. Casey, a leading researcher and professor in teaching reading, presents a compelling argument for the implementation of technology in classrooms as early as pre-school. While this is not a revolutionary idea these days, the approach she advocates is. Many schools still use the computer as a glorified typewriter or calculator, or as an electonic "ditto sheet." Not so here. With the help of colleagues throughout the world, Dr. Casey has studied real-life situations in which children, who might otherwise fail and join the ever-growing ranks of the functionally illiterate, not only learn to read, but experience the joy of success. This is accomplished through the use of the "talking computer", a learning machine which gives immediate feedback to children in all learning modalities, visual, kinesthetic, aural, and oral. Many practical problems are addressed, such as funding, and the resistance to change in the "corporate culture" of many schools. A helpful appendix ennumerates online sources, software and other technology resources. Specific advice for teachers is given in the form of a checklist. My only disappointment with the book is a lack of illustrations; this is no doubt attributable to the publisher's budget restraints. I highly recommend this book as a starting point for school districts and staffs, as well as parent advocacy groups. Many state school boards would also be well-advised to heed Dr. Casey's words.

A Must For Architectural Enthusiasts
This is by far the most impressive book in my collection. Afeast for the eyes, this book illustrates some of the most beautifularchitecture of all time. The exacting detail, and vast collection of drawings make this book a true work of art. I had seen it years ago, and have been searching for it to add to my library ever since. A MASTERPIECE!!!

The most beautiful book I own.
I found a paperback copy of Letarouilly's Edifices De Rome Moderne in my local library - now out of print - after a vacation to Rome. Nothing has captured the feelings of awe I felt since that trip quite like this new publication. The book itself is a work of art. It should be framed, mounted or placed on an alter, or in a family shrine; "Edifices De Rome Moderne" is the most beautiful book I own. The attention to detail from the original etchings is remarkable. Any Roman Historian of the renaissance or lover of great architecture will not want be without this book. Princeton Architectural Press has a masterpiece with this publication.

A practical guidebook for achieving success
In this no-nonsense book on achieving success, Jean Marie Stine certainly knows what she's talking about. The practical, step-by-step guide that she has written will help anyone, from any walk of life. If you're persistent, and ready to learn, pick up this book, and find out what it takes to climb the ladder of success.

'The Eight Habits of Highly Successful People' is a great read for someone who's always wondered what it really takes. Right from the beginning, you will learn that it is not your education, family background, or any other such factor that plays a role in your success. For you to find success in your endeavors, you need to know how to live your life. And this is exactly what this practical guidebook teaches.

As many other readers will be, I too was skeptical of this book. We've all read hundreds of articles and books on how to achieve success and emerge a winner. They're usually full of things we already know, things impossible to achieve, or simply so superfluous that you shut the book before you've even read the first chapter. Such is not the case with this book. There is nothing impractical or superfluous about it. It is a step-by-step blueprint, which ensures your success if you stick to it.

Unlike the many other books that I've read on the subject, 'The Eight Habits of Highly Successful People' stands apart from the crowd. It is a well-written, extremely informative wealth of ideas and information that absolutely guarantees your success.

If you're tired of reading the same formulas over and over again, this one's for you. Concise and to the point, this book will teach you the secret formula to achieving success.

Powerful Guide to Developing Key Success Skills
The author says change your habits and change your life. Develop the eight habits that characterize successful people in all walks of life, and you will realize your dreams, whatever they are. Research shows that those who acquire The Eight Habits of Highly Successful People have an almost 100% likelihood of accomplishing all that they set out to do. Do you want to get that promotion, bust that sales quote, start or save a business, raise funds for your church, win a marathon, find romance-and otherwise, realize your personal and professional dreams? When all is said and done, she writes, what separates those who realize their aims and those who don't are eight characteristic ways of acting. Successful people always make it a habit to: 1. Clarify Their Goals; 2. Become a Doer; 3. Develop Fearlessness; 4. Believe in Their Success; 5. Take Responsibility; 6. Generate Enthusiasm; 7. Bounce Back from Setbacks; 8. Cross the Finish Line. Jean Marie Stine shows you how to acquire those eight habits and makes learning them easy in this new book from the author of the bestselling hardcover, Double Your Brain Power. Available exclusively in e-book format!

Very comprehensive and informative!!
Dr. Henry has written a great book for men and women! This resource answered all of my questions and gave me answers to questions I didn't even know I had! It was extremely helpful...tells the history of cosmetic facial surgery as well as gives insights into emotional and psychological reasons it is "OK" to go ahead with cosmetic procedures. It thoroughly made me aware of all of the various procedures done today as well as what to expect from each one - costs, recovery time, etc. After reading this book I felt very comfortable with the information and am now able to use it to make some decisions about myself. If you are thinking about any type of facial cosmetic surgery, this book is for you!

Provides keys to understanding the face-lift process
Face-Lift Sourcebook opens with a discussion of how the face ages, then provides keys to understanding the face-lift process which helps readers determine whether surgery is the right option. From locating the best surgeon to considering costs and recovery, this provides detailed consumer information by a doctor who is herself a plastic surgeon.

Vast Resource, but contact info out of date
They've done the research and list many scholorships in an uncluttered format. Scholarships are listed by the geographical location in which the scholarship is to be used. The contact information tends to be out of date, but it is possible to find the current information, albeit with a little work.

Interested in international education? Look no further!
Financial Resources for International Study is a must have for anyone wishing to attend school outside of the U.S. Every scholarship and financial aid option imaginable is listed within the book, which if you recieve one of those, could pay for the book itself easily! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who, like me, has to get out and see the world through education but cannot always pay for all of it.

invaluable source of thought for anarchist teachers
As a teacher with strong philosophical opinions that are essentially anti- teacher and anti- school, its important to find a text which sheds more light on where you see yourself inside an educational institution as a practitioner. This book does that job. Brilliant.

Strong Application of Foucault to Educational Theory
The single best source I have found that takes Foucault's challenging ideas and applies them to educational theory (and to some extent, practice). In particular, a meaty opening essay by Popkewitz is clear and insightful, representing Foucault comprehensibly--skillfully applying his insights to important contemporary issues like the construction of "the child", cumpulsory schooling, conceptualizations of curriculum, and school "reform". I strongly recommend this for people who had given up on trying to find something coherent from "post-" discourses to apply to educational theory. I have assigned it as a reading in a graduate course on critical theories of education and students have responded well to it.

An Essential Resource for Visiting the Best French Gardens
As Marie-Francoise Valery says in her text about Giverny, "Every gardener is a painter." And she has the photographs to prove this statement in the amazingly vivid colors of Deidi von Schaewen's powerful panoramas and intimate peeks. Never have gardens looked so good.

The text for this outstanding book is printed in French, English, and German so you can choose whichever language is the easiest for you. I found the French versions to be the most engaging. The texts are quite brief to allow more room for the amazing photographs!

As someone who loves gardens and often visits France, I was impressed by how many gardens I had missed. Well, no longer! My next visit will be quite different as a result of encountering this beautiful catalogue of gorgeous greenery.

Naturally, you have seen Versailles and Giverny. But have you been to the Chateau d'Apremont, Chateau d'Hautefort, and Vaux-le-Vicomte?

The French have long excelled at formal gardens, and you surely know Le Notre's work (lovingly displayed here). But you will also see many modern and informal gardens, as well. In fact, you will encounter humble, noble, ancient, and abstract gardens among others. These are drawn from a cross-section of France so you get the benefit of seeing what the different growing conditions permit. On the Riviera, you will see cacti while dense shrubbery in intricate designs are featured in the northern gardens.

The continuity of this book is in capturing each garden at its absolute best color. Some of these gardens may only look this wonderful for five minutes, but von Schaewen succeeded in capturing those right five minutes.

With over 40 gardens to examine, you will surely find some that match your tastes and mood.

After you have finished examining these remarkable oases of human sensibility, I suggest that you begin inquiring about great gardens near where you live which you have never seen. Then inquire as to when is the best time to visit. Chances are, if you are like me, you have been missing great gardens not only in France, but everywhere you go.

Stop and smell the roses!

A stunning source of inspiration
After leafing through this most gorgeous of gardening books, your heart will ache with an overwhelming desire to visit the "Gardens in France". 340 pages of divine photographs, showcasing more than 40 glorious gardens. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, for if a picture tells a thousand words, then the words will speak for themselves. From topiary, to palaces, to potagers... there's an idea on every page, inspiration at every turn. Gardens in France is an absolute must for any gardener. The presentation is immaculate, and the authors have avoided the temptation to tell all about the gardens, preferring to let the reader see it all instead, with huge, clear, panoramic photographs! At the back you'll also find site plans and directions to get to many of the gardens. Who could resist?

The best toddler book
I can not say enough about how totally brilliant this book it. The illustrations are charming for a boy or a girl to read. There are great details and wonderful names of the little girls stuffed animal friends who she has to find to get ready for bed. She even uses the potty and brushes her teeth and we love how her shoe is always falling off. My 2 year old always sais "silly mommy" now when I do something out of the ordinary like in the story. We also found the Christmas is comming book to be delightfull as well. The highest rating possible!

A luminous night time story
GOOD NIGHT is one of the most beautiful and charming nightime stories. The role reversal of Juliette rounding up her stray toys for bed works beautifully. Claire Masurel writes truely special children's books and has a real sense of childhood fun. Plus, the illustrations for GOOD NIGHT are luminous. I look forward to the Christmas book by the same team.
