This collection is a nice balance of his early, sexually and emotionally explicit plays -- imagine "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" meets "Oh, Calcutta" -- along with his two great works of political and moral philosophy, "Aunt Dan and Lemon" and "The Fever".
It's hard to describe the latter works, hard to convey their brilliance, difficulty, and, finally, their tremendous ability to disturb. "The Fever" is a monologue and "Aunt Dan and Lemon" relies as much on monologue as dialogue, so neither has ever been much of a hit with audiences used to soundbites and smash cuts. Both could also be said to be assaults on the audience, for you cannot sit through productions of them or read them without having some fundamental beliefs questioned and, if you've really paid attention, upset. At their heart, these works seek to undermine a simple belief which most of us take for granted: that we live a relatively moral, decent life and that we are, at heart, a good person.
There are very few writers who I think are truly necessary, writers without whose voices I would feel absolutely bereft, even less human. Wallace Shawn is one of those writers.

When I have some perishable food on hand that I want to use up while still fresh I scan this book for ideas. It will often have a recipe that only involves a few other ingredients that I can use. I also use it when my cupboard is a little bare, because there are recipes in here that use only staples that I usually have on hand.
I haven't tried every recipe in this book, but eventually I will try most of them. So far two of my absolute favorites are the Stir-Fried Chicken, Green Beans and Walnuts and the Carmelized Banana with Rich Chocolate Fudge Sauce. It was the easiest fudge sauce recipe I've even seen, and it was one of the most delicious.
I will probably be purchasing this book as a gifts for others, because I think most people could find enough recipes in here that they would work into their cooking on a regular basis.

The book is set up as a series of short letters on various subjects. At the top of each page is our voice, asking, for example, on page 12, under the title of Deeply Hurt, "Lord, I didn't know a person could hurt as deeply as I do and still live. How can I go on?" And, then, beneath, the rest of the page is God's answer to us. In this example, He begins, "My child, I know your heart is broken, but trust me, one day at a time. Put your hand in mine. I will lead you through this dark valley."
The book is broken down into two sections. First, there's He Leads Through The Valleys, (my example came from that section), which offers help during the hard times, and then, Into His Glorious Light!, which encourages praise and thanksgiving in the good times. My only gripe is that there's no table of contents or index list so you have to leaf through the book to find the topic you're seeking. However, this is a book I'm willing to leaf through.
This book is going directly to my bedside table and it will probably become a permanent fixture there with my favorite Bibles. It will be tear-stained and dog-eared in no time. God bless Ms. Shropshire for writing this book.
I am taken aback at this precision, and I thank God for the many times that I have found peace meditating on the words of this book.
As titled, In Touch with God, truly speaks to a prayerful heart.

The recipes are easy to follow and simply terrific. The instructions for making hard-cooked egg is so simple and fail-proof and learning this method alone made me wonder why this was never presented in all other books and magazines that I own.
This book is highly recommended!
The highlight of the book is the escape attempt though. As you read on and on at a harrowing pace, you almost believe they'll make it. But the stupid mistakes, lack of judgement, and time wasted sealed the fate of the royal family.
As we all know Marie Antoinette died on the guillotine, but do you know the violent death that Axel Fersen faced? Or the legend of the ring that was given to him by Marie?
An excellent, well written, and easy to follow book that made me fall in love with the Queen and see her not as a monster, but as a woman and a mother who despite trying her best, just couldn't make anything work out.
