Excellent Patterns and Guidance
This is an excellent pattern book for the Western/Southwestern deigns. Judy Gale Roberts, as with all the "Fine Line Design" series, offers some excellent patterns with some useful hints laced throughout the book. There are 36 full sized patterns ranging from 8 x 11 to the fold out 11 x 17 patterns. Also scattered in the book are various smaller projects. Advice is given on how to utilize various different techiques to take a single pattern and make it a shelf, key chain holder, clock, plaque or a shadow box.

The commentary is not at the beginning of the book, but rather right at the pattern through out the book. This allows the user to see exactly how the 'helpful tip' can be incorporated into the project.

The eye catching collection of designs in this book will offer the user countless opportunities to excell at the their work. You will have no problem interpreting July Gale Roberts designs.

Four Short Blasts: The Gale of 1898 And The Loss of the Steamer Portland

This is a piece of history thrillingly and accurately told.
I for one like history to be both accurate and dramatic - it so seldom is both. In this book it is. The research is meticulous and exceedingly well presented. The crisp, engaging style blends perfectly with the fine but terrifying paintings depicting the doomed ship. The newspaper portraits of passengers and crew harmonize with the graphic, yet deeply compassionate tale of human disaster. Also, the cover of the book is aesthetically powerful and highly effective. I enthusiastically recommend this fine work.

Secret Vices
This short book served as a catalogue for an exhibition at the Tate in London in 1999 and is one of the more sensitive explorations into Francis Bacon's artistic thoughts. Though known to approach unfixed canvas (in his much talked about trashy studio) with brush and paint and palette knife in hand and attack his story until it was complete, Bacon actually spent a considerable amount of time sketching ideas which often became his huge scaled painting. David Sylvester opens this Pandora's box with a pithy introduction and Matthew Gale presents a sophisticated, scholarly examination of this heretofore unknown aspect of Francis Bacon. The plates of the sketches, all included in the atalogue, prove startling even to the most ardent Baconophile. This is a treasure chest of nascent thought and aborted ideas.....and makes for splendid reading.

A Fresh Gale
A delightful book! This story of love, family, adventure, and optimism, carries the reader into the past, to a time when life seemed less complicated. Having grown up in Bessemer, the story was humorous and reminesecent of my childhood. I laughed; I cried; I was overjoyed, and I couldn't put it down.
