Absorbing, suspenseful thriller from Nancy Baker Jacobs.
Suspense readers delight!
Ms. Jacobs has done it again! Ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, and a plot which picks up speed with every page, this thriller is a joy ride for the thriller reader. If you're looking for a good read, pick up Double Trouble---you won't be able to put it down.
AT LONG LAST!!
I'll say right up front that I'm a friend of Nancy Baker Jacobs, and I haven't yet read DOUBLE OR NOTHING. I'm rating it five stars, though, in anticipation of what I know it's bound to be. I've read several of Nancy's other books, and have been waiting impatiently to receive the long-awaited DOUBLE OR NOTHING. Nancy is a great writer, and she's been gone from the mystery scene far too long. As an author myself, and a former freelance editor, I know good writing when I see it--and Nancy goes beyond good. Her books are thoughtful, intelligent, tense, fast-paced and exciting. Welcome back, Nancy! And get that promised copy of DOUBLE OR NOTHING to me--fast!!

A Masterpiece of Sorts
Well Al, you've done it again. Not only have you blown away the competition, but maybe even Hemingway himself, with your deeply-penetrating comprehension of TSAR. The historical background information along with reasoned explanations of the text allow the reader to teleport himself away from the page and into Hemingway's own orb. Profound my man, profound.
Good As Gold
This book is as good as gold.! DeFazio's treatment of TSAR is one of the best I've ever seen.
I have to disagree with the other reviewer, this book lacks nothing!
You are good to go with this one Good Buddy, Or my name is John Albert Barneske III.
A Brilliant Look at Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises.
You can't swing a dead cat in a college bookstore without hitting another book about Hemingway. However, A. DeFazio has graced us with a unique and interesting review about Hemingway and his timeless novel, The Sun Also Rises (TSAR). DeFazio topples the usual misconceptions regarding Hemingway and delves into the rich information surrounding Hemingway's inscribing of TSAR. Also, DeFazio provides a crisp analysis of the expatriate movement and events surrounding the timeline of TSAR, a must for fully understanding Hemingway's true intent of the novel. After reading DeFazio's opus, you feel an intimate closeness to Hemingway and his characters. DeFazio brings the once-secluded world of Hemingway, previously only encountered by the most devoted of Hemingway scholars, to our hands. However, DeFazio doesn't just provide analysis of the work, he includes a subtle display of Hemingway's true genius behind TSAR, conjuring much respect for Hemingway and his first major work. DeFazio also provides an astounding amount of other Hemingway and TSAR sources (I'm sure due to his status as the indexer for the Hemingway Review). Now, DeFazio's adept writing doesn't just supply you with information about TSAR and Hemingway, it brings you one step closer to understanding the novel in its true greatness. Not to imply that DeFazio has written only praise of the book, in fact there is impressive and concise criticism of TSAR. Yet, DeFazio's book seems to come up lacking. It seems that regardless of level of criticism and analysis, nothing can convey the true eminence behind TSAR. Nothing can properly compliment the harsh prose that made TSAR a classic, but DeFazio tries damn hard, and does a jim-dandy job. DeFazio's Literary Masterpieces: The Sun Also Rises (LMTSAR) is an invaluable companion to the timeless masterpiece. But the greatest part of the book must be the "extras" that are so common yet so poorly tailored in most companion books. DeFazio includes pictures of cafes, bullfights and many other settings. All of the locales of the book, and many other elements Hemingway touched on are detailed and advanced in LMTSAR to a point where you 're walking down the streets of the working quarter with Jake Barnes and Rob Cohn, listening to the sounds of ragged jazz from a street side café and taking sips from a bottle of good bottle of Port. Truly, the level of detail DeFazio has provided us in LMTSAR will amaze everyone, from that indifferent teenager in the back of the classroom who smells like bud, to Michael Reynolds himself. If you're going to have one companion book to the great work of Hemingway, make it DeFazio's LMTSAR...

"One Unicorn": Beautiful Book
This larger-size hardcover contains lots of brilliant, detailed illustrations of princesses & unicorns (in colored pencil, I think). The language is simple and delicate, telling of the inevitable experience of "growing up"; the waning of interest in what were once precious childhood things. The ending was bittersweet. Overall, it's a good book for both kids and grown-ups, and a very nice piece to have in a collection.
Beauty Embodied
This books was one of my favourite when I was a small child. I recently found my childhood copy again, and was nearly brought to tears by the beauty that still spills from its pages. The illustrations are colourful and absolutely gorgeous, and the story, though simple, is one that can infuse a person's entire life, from childhood to death.
"One Unicorn" by Gale Cooper
The reason I rate this book 5 stars is because it's a very good story with an appreciated moral and the illustrations are the most beautiful I have ever seen. For instance, even the cover page has a beautiful baby unicorn with blue eyes and a gold alicorn and hooves.

My child loved this book!
My little girl loved this book. She has always adored teddy bears and now collects them. This summer we plan to take her to The Vermont Teddy Bear Company. She brought this book in for show and tell along with her favorite bear, and gave a short presentation on how teddy bears are made. I would certainly recommend this book.
Teddy bears are great!
This book is an excellent tutorial in how teddy bears are made and how great the VT teddy bear company is! I never wanted a teddy bear until I read this book. I live in VT and I am excited about going to the Vt Teddy bear company factory and purchasing my own teddy bear!
BEHIND THE SCENES AT VERMONT TEDDY BEAR FACTORY
An exciting, behind-the-scenes tour through the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, where you can see step-by-step how teddy bears are made. Great full-color photos show you how the cloth is cut, how each bear is filled and sewn, and how their many outfits are created. Special sidebars on the company's history and other topics add additional fun background.

If you only read one Indian history book, Read this One!!
I borrowe this book from a friend. She had never read it. It was stuck in a box. This book is Indian & American History as if written By Clancey!!! This book presents the history of Indian and uropean settlement through the 1800's. It presnts cultural clashes from a global perspective starting in the 1600's. For once, I could understanfd the conflicts and their timing between Spain, Russia, England, France and the emerging US. The clear presentation of the Spanish presence as miners and slaveers. The English, French and Russians as fur robber barons represented by greedy men and the lowly US taking up the rear. The Indian population with thier established tribes, hunting areas and culture were spelled out clearly and convincingly. It was understandble now that Europeans really didn't or couldn't have removed the Indian without the use of our deseases such as small pox and meassles. More Indians died of small pox than any US Army battle. Not that we didn't remove, push, cheat them only that their population was overwhelmed by our deseases first. The history is written like a fast moving novel, exciting, detailed , twisting and turning. It has political plots, robber barons, government plots, greedy people and bungling fools. It tells of Indians against Indians, Indians against Spanish, French, English, Russians and the US. The vast majority of the western movement was only to pass through the plains, over the Rockies for most people to Oregon and California. It is remakable that Oregon has remained as rural as it has while California is the state which has really grown. The wealth of California apparently was sverely understated while Oregon was overstated.
.You will love this book.
I read v.1 - v.4. Easy hard to put down reading.
These four volumes do more to explain the depth and extent of the Indian Nations that existed in the Northwest prior to the fur traders. A vast empire headquartered in present day central Oregon, near the major Indian trading centers on the Columbia River with influences extending east into present day Wyoming, south to Santa Fe, NM and Indio, CA. This series of books is perhaps the only written account of the Shoshone Indians. An Indian nation that witnessed and bore the brunt of the indiscretions of fur traders, explorers, gold hunters, religious pioneers, settlers, and others.
An exciting account of early history in Western America
I was captivated by this writing that covers the history of the Western United States from before European intrusion, up through the peak years of the fur trade. Very interesting view from the Native American perspective and the white man's greed that laid waste to the animals and Indians alike. Very easy book to read. Once I got started, it was hard to put it down. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Thunder over the Ochoco
I have traveled much of Central and Eastern Oregon where much of the action in this book takes place. After reading this book it is especially fascinating because many of the places named after the people in this book, such as John Day who had a city and a river named after him. Peter Skeen Ogden who has historical markers all over Central and Eastern Oregon marking where he had been and let us not forget Paulina, the great war chief of the Shoshoni. Each spring and fall I travel to the Paulina Valley and watch the eagles, the deer and the antelope. Each time I travel south of Bend I see Paulina Peak keeping watch over the lakes formed by the caldera of Newberry Crater and the valley below, once the valley of the Shoshoni and all of the other tribes of this great country east of the Cascades. The author has put names and faces together making history come alive for me. I live less than a mile from the Deschutes River and Pilot Butte is only blocks from my house. The snow on the Three Sisters glows in the winter sun and I thrill to the sight of them them each day from my home in Bend. I have great difficulty in putting the book down. I tell myself that I will read only one chapter a night but one chapter leads to another. It is fascinating and a must read for any history buff and Oregonians especially.
Four volumes in four weeks. A great history of Oregon
The Shoshone Indians once occupied a territory that extended east to west from the Rocky Mountains to the Cascades; and north to south from the Columbia River to northern New Mexico, Arizona, and Indio, CA. This great nation ruled the West from the time Cortez marched north from Mexico to the Indian Wars of the late 19th Century. A vivid testimony of how the North American Indians were treated when the American West was explored, invaded, and its native peoples exterminated with incredible efficiency.
The history of a holocaust in America
I read the 600 + pages of Vol 1 and 2 in one setting. It took about 4 days. The story flows is easy to understand, track, and comprehend. The subject matter is facinating, and if accurate will require the rewriting of many historical events in the West. I was astonished to find that gold was first discovered in Oregon by spanish explorers in the 1600's. Most facisnating was the dark side of the european settlement of the West. Compared to Bosnia, the germ warfare, murder, and population displacement practices of EuroAmerican settlers on the Native Ameicans is without a doubt the saddest story every told

One of the better movie novelizations.
This novelization by George Gipe delves even deeper into the characters of the superb movie than did the movie itself (as difficult as that is). There are, however, some differences from the movie; Gipe must have been given a different version of the script than the final, shooting edition. Overall, recommended.
Excellent novelization of a movie.
This book is wonderful and should be read by any Back to the Future trlogy fan. It is a must-read book filled with action and contains a couple of differences with the movie that were probably original ideas not used in the final film.

The next "bible" for Training Professionals
Purington and Butler have succeeded by detailing how to implement the strategy they so clearly recommend in the book. The book sets forth in an orderly and easily understood manner the steps that will greatly improve any training department. If there is any one book that will pull it all together for the training professional, this is the one. A must read book.
Training Professionals Take Note
This book provides a step by step process to make any training department successful. The book is written in easy to understand language with detailed success strategy for creating the ideal learning organization. Most training books fail to inform the reader how to execute the strategy they are recommending. Purington and Butler have done a masterful job putting the detail in the puzzle. Outstanding and a must read book for all training professionals!

Opening the Door to Evangelism
I have read Community Houses of Prayer in the context of a participants group. I looked forward to the debriefing sessions when we were often humbled by examples of God's faithfulness in answer to our prayers. My participation in CHOP made me realize that I could be involved in evangelism for the first time in my life. What may be unique in Dr. Gale's approach is the intertwining of strategic prayer with an emphasis on spiritual warfare and the keeping of a record of one's experiences during the twelve week CHOP program. The content is sharply focused to encourage the participant's spiritual renewal. I recommend this publication to Christians who want support in undertaking lifestyle evangelism.
Faithful Witnesses
God clearly calls His people to be faithful witnesses of His saving grace to the communities where He places them. As I seek to lead a church to fulfill this responsibility, I've found the CHOP ministry to be extremely effective in directing the participants (myself & others) to think more carefully about those contacts God has already given to us. With these contacts in mind, we are not told 'to just do it', but encouraged and
instructed first to see that our efforts are to be 'bathed in prayer' and then to seek to impact the lives of others by building these relationships with a demonstration of transforming grace in our own lives and the Word of God.
