A Helpful Book Full of Interprative Essays
I am a sophomore attending Marquette University, and for my British Literature Class, we had to write a 7-10 pg paper for our final research project on any work we covered in class.

I chose Othello. The purpose of the assignment was to pick a topic related to the work and find various interpretations that would help you prove your point. Scott does a very nice job of collecting various reputable authors in his discussions of each play. From what I could tell, he chose professors and esteemed writers for all the essays I read.

I also liked how he gave a brief synopsis of each play before the essays. He also makes sure that there are in-depth character sketches for each main character and descriptions of the main themes in the plays.

I picked up this book from our library and I enjoyed his collections on Othello. Therefore, since I believe it is a valuable resource, I have decided to purchase the book myself.

I recommend it highly as a source to any student.

An erudite, up-close comparison and contrast
The Sino-American Friendship As Tradition and Challenge: Dr. Ailie Gale In China 1908-1950 by Dr. M. Cristina Zaccarini (History Professor, Adelphi University) focuses on the writings of Dr. Ailie Gale, an American female missionary and hospital administrator, and her erudite, up-close comparison and contrast between nations from the perspective of one who has lived in both worlds. Her beliefs in duty and service to God, spiritual equality between genders, and the efforts of her medical service are all brought to vivid life on the page, as are her forceful opposition to a patriarchal hierarchy and the subordination of women that she saw all too heavily inlaid within the traditional Chinese cultures around her. The Sino-American Friendship As Tradition And Challenge is highly recommended for international studies and 20th century Chinese history curriculum supplemental reading lists and academic reference collections.

Comprehensive and Suprisingly Accurate Book of Numbers
This is one of those books you look at in the store or library and look at it with an open mind but dont give it much attention. YOU COULD DO NOTHING WORSE! This book deserves FULL attention, and it is great for beginners and experienced numerologists alike. I use it more for a reference book when I do readings for others, and it helps immeasurably. It is very colourful, and very informed. Teaches you how to use numbers in everyday life, what your birthdate means, what your name means in numbers, what the vowels in your name mean etc. etc. etc. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SIMPLE YET HIGHLY ACCURATE BOOK FOR NUMEROLOGY, THIS IS IT. I had a party with my friends, and pulled it out just for fun, and it surprised everyone how accurate it is. It will help you to understand your souls true purpose, and what you need to do to better your life. Highly Highly recommended.

Best source for folk stories by subject.
This reference is hard to get into, but well worth it. Even though it is 15+ years old, it has much value still for libraries and media centers with large collections of 398's. The subject index allows you to find many stories about almost any subject you or your students can think of. It also helps to find that partially forgotten story you heard once upon a time. An ethnic and geographic index also helps teachers and librarians fit stories into themes. All stories, compiled from more than 2000 folktale collections, are arranged in Stith Thompson order, so stories on similar themes are easy to find. Its only drawback is its date - but many libraries still have these collections on their shelves, and many of the collections are being reprinted. A Good Guidebook for Test-Item Writing
This book covers broad areas in Test-Item Developing, from the basic concepts to the extended skills. Anyone who has tried to write test-items might have felt the need of a technology of test-item writing. This book answers that need. It consists of five parts and I think that the reader can choose to read some of parts or chapters for his/her own purpose, although each part had better not be omitted. For example, the reader, who needs practical references but don't have much time, can read part 2:Practical Guideline for Item Writing and part 3:Item-Writing Technology : Six Prominent Methods instead of reading all parts. I suppose that this book would be helpful not only to researchers but also to teachers and test-item designers, regardless which level sutdents they are dealing with.

Morgen is the daughter of a famous painter. After his death, she is adrift in life and is wooed by the eager Royal, a man determined to make her his wife. She doesn't love him, and doesn't feel complete until she meets a woman from her past, Toni. Only with her does she feel whole again. Written in a sparse and evocative style, Wilhelm's novel is a joy to read. Entirely compelling and beautifully crafted.

Very interesting!
I found this book to be very interesting and infomative. The pictures really give you a good idea of what the Academy is all about. I, myself, will be enrolling in July, 1999, and I am definitely glad I read this. It does a great job of describing what a future midshipman should expect. Definitely a great buy!

Venus: The Evolution of the Goddess and Her Planet
Published in Paperback by Aquarian Pr (1994)
Author: Ronnie Gale Dreyer
Amazon base price: $15.00
Used price: $7.00
Average review score:

An important contribution to astrological studies
This book provides a pretty good overview of the Goddesses from Near Eastern and Mediterranean cultures linked to the planet we know as Venus. The information on these Goddesses is only an overview - for in-depth studies I would recommend sources more specific to each particular Deity - but the author is thorough and scholarly, and does an excellent job of staying on point by returning again and again to the relationship of the Goddess to Her planet. This is very significant, given the strong connections of astrology and religion in the ancient world.

The originality and importance of the book lies in the author's interest in exploring these Goddesses together with astrological information regarding the planet Venus. She discusses in detail the two signs governed by the planet - Taurus and Libra - and compares the ditinctions between them with the distinctions which Plato made between Aphrodite Pandemos and Aphrodite Ourania. She then describes the influence of Venus through the signs, houses, and in aspect.

A very good book with an admirable amount of originality.

The Goddess Aphrodite/Venus has too often been overlooked as a subject for spiritual and scholarly study.

THE MONKEYS PAW
The Monkey's Paw is a book by W.W. Jacob. It's about a married couple and their son. The couple gets a monkey's paw from a friend. The friend warns them that the monkey's paw will give you 3 wishes but in order to get those wishes something bad might be sacrificed. The father of the couple takes advantage of it and wishes for 2000 pounds (500 dollars.)...This is a very good book and it has lots of mystery in it.
