A comprhensive book on all aspects of llamas.
This is one of the few books that addresses how to show, sell, care for and train llamas. It covers more areas of llama ownership than any other book I have read. If you want a llama for a pet, or for more than that, this is a good read.

Great book
I would highly recommend this book, it was very well written and organized.

Excellent book for people just starting out with llamas.
This gives you an overview of everything you need to know about raising llamas. For breeders who sell llamas, the book is a great gift to go along with the animal they sell. It saves them time as it answers many of the questions the new owners have. A must for people thinking about buying their first llama It tells them what to look for so they can make a wise purchase..

Brave Little Margie and Oh! Susanna... the survivor!
I have to confess that I was skeptical about reading a biograghy of Gale Storm, but two things drove me to do so. One, my father went to high school with her here in Houston Texas, when she was known as Jo Cottle.. she even wore his senior ring for a time. He was smitten.Second, I loved My Little Margie and Oh! Susanna! when I was growing up. Don't be put off by the beginning of this book by her jumping right in about her battle with alcoholism. It is to play an immensely important role for what you will read as you get into her story. This book also chronicles a time of TV in it's infancy and the role it came to play for all of us baby-boomers.She is detailed, precise in her recollection of famous people she worked with and even "tattles" a little about some of show business icons' ego trips. In short, you begin to really love this special lady as she writes from her heart and soul. She is honest and brave, as you will see when she details her final attempt to recover from the disease of alcoholism. It came close to killing her but she made it. I feel certain you will enjoy her story, learn a lot about early television, the price of celebrity and a warm journey of the heart. A terrific read!

The inspiring, real-life story of one of Hollywood's legends
"I Ain't Down Yet" is the inspiring autobiography of Gale Storm, best-known as TV's My Little Margie. This frank and informative book follows Gale's humble beginnings in Bloomington Texas to stardom in Hollywood. Gale valiantly describes her bout and ultimate victory over alcoholism. Her candor and humor makes this very enjoyable reading. One can easily read this book in one sitting...in fact, it's almost impossible to lay the book aside. If you only know Gale Storm from My Little Margie or her many top ten hit records, you don't know all you need to know. This book will enlighten you to the multifaceted talents of Gale Storm and to the warm, wonderful person she is. And her struggle and ultimate victory over alcoholism will move and inspire you.

inspiring
This is one of the most uplifting and inspiring books that I have ever read.

Faithful, Insightful, Definitive, Delightful!
This book breathes life into the very complex figure who is a progenitor of Science, and to an extent, Western civilization as we know them today. From Newton's correspondence and the memoirs of people who knew him, Christianson tells the story of the quiet child who revolutionized theories of light and mechanics, invented calculus (or did he? read!), served brilliantly as Master of the Mint, and presided over the Royal Society while privately holding heretical views and practicing alchemy. I got a great sense of the interrelatedness of the works of Newton and his contemporaries such that he seems neither untouchable and divine nor merely "in the right place at the right time", fashionable traps for biography. His interaction with many other contemporaries, such as Halley, Leibniz, and (Johann) Bernoulli were a reality check for my notions of genteel integrity among the lights of the age.

This is the first work of history and biography I've read in a long time. I'm now inspired to find more reading of this caliber. If only my formal education in history could have been this engaging!

Macmillan, please print this again so I can have my own copy!

The life of the greatest abstract thinker of all times.
Every one has heard of Isaac Newton. His laws of motion, how an apple fell on his head to help him understand gravity, etc. Those who go on to college to study science or engineering hear more of his work in optics, calculus, and a myriad other fields. When you understand how his work is at the very foundations of modern science, you begin to appreciate his genius.

This book by Gale E. Christianson is based on about 4 millions words (approximately 8000 pages on a standard 8 inches by 11.5 inches paper) written by Newton himself. The author succeeds in presenting everything that is known about Newton in less than 600 pages. Throughout the book, considerable amount of time is spent in outlining the external environment (political, religious, social and scientific) in England to help the reader understand Newton's life better.

The book starts off with Newton's ancestry and his own very difficult birth (prematurely born). His life is traced all the way to his education at Trinity College (University of Cambridge) and beyond as a Professor of Mathematics. The controversy regarding who is the originator of Calculus (Leibniz being the contender) is addressed in great detail. Everything you may want to learn about the origins of 'Principia Mathematica' is also covered in this book. Of course, there is no substitute for reading a copy of the original 'Principia Mathematica' itself if you are interested in exactly what it comprised.

I have yet to finish reading the entire book and it has been about 10 years since I purchased my copy. I skipped a few chapters when I first read the book and I have never been able to find the time to go back and fill in the blanks. The 600 pages are quite daunting to read yet thoroughly enjoyable if you can relate to his life in any way. Even otherwise, the life of one of the greatest abstract thinkers of all times is absolutely fascinating. What makes the book difficult to read is not the complex mathematics or physics (there is none of that in this book) but the pages and pages devoted to painting a picture of life in England at that time. There is so much information that you also need to find British History interesting in order to appreciate the entire book.

If you are deeply interested in Physics or Mathematics, you will enjoy this book thoroughly. Otherwise, it will make a good addition to your biography collection. The effort that the author spent on putting this book together is absolutely monumental. I plan on keeping this as part of my library collection and someday pass it on to my progeny. I hope you find it as enjoyable a book to read as I did.

By the method of fluxions...
Although not very detailed on the scientific aspects of Newton's work, this biography places him very well in his historic period, where we find a tadpole spectacle-between two worlds--of an age in transition, and the arch-innovator, shaking the foundations. That said, and the tale makes it clear, Newton was still very much a man of another age, if not another world, and we can also forget his discretion towards what he had achieved, never mistaking it for a complete metaphysical system. The theologian competes with the tinkerer turned blazingly sharp intuiter of the method of fluxions. The issue is important because the monumental genius of his deed tends to induce imitation in the sciences to come, but this never suceeds, for a reason Newton might have found obvious as he expended a majority of his labors poring over theological and alchemical treatises. I shan't further, as is my wont, crack jokes about 'mad scientists'. Newton was the real McCoy, and so much more compellingly fascinating than the caricature. We might learn his system of the world, but never grasp the 'system' of his mind, where sanity and madness integrate as a mystery. The depiction in the book of the world of Newton's England, Cambridge, and in the period of a classic political passage, leaves only wonder at the pinnacle of accomplishment starting from such rough-scrabble beginnings.

The Last Free Chief of the Modoc Nation
As someone who lives very close to the spot where all of this brutality and inhumanity took place I found the "story telling" nature of the writing style very enjoyable.
Not preachy or overly judgemental but a story that is informative, and enlightening as well as being just a darn good read.

A Plea for Justice
This allegory mirrors the injustice perpetrated by man upon man from the beginning, and enters a plea for justice for all the downtrodden of this day and age as well as all those gone before.

A Moving Account of a Little Known American Tragedy
Several years ago, I drove back into the country Patricia Waters Boyer so effectively brings to life, down pitted dirt roads and across almost alien terrains defined by volcanic activity. Along this stretch of dirt road, there is much history that has been forgotten or ignored; a Japanese internment camp, pictographs set along ancient walls, the flint and arrowheads of a long lost race.

One of the things that made The Last Free Chief such a compelling book for me, is that it retells this piece of forgotten history without resorting to broad strokes. It's as clear and unforgiving in its portrayal of barbarism, betrayal and valor as the terrain which Chief Joseph once lived. No easy task.

On another level, the book is just a good read. I was pulled in from the opening pages and then drawn deeper as the tragic events unfolded. Unlike many writers of historical fiction, Patricia Waters Boyer doesn't just retell events like a ledger from a County record. She has a wonderful lyrical style that reads easy but immerses the reader in a world of her making.

For a freshman effort, this work compares favorably to Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee or I Will Fight No More Forever : Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce War. The Last Free Chief of the Modoc Nation is not as sweeping in scope but is moe intimate in its telling of the tragedy that played out in a remote and rugged corner of Northeast California.

Bravo! I look forward to more.

Excellent, but watch for typos!
This seems to be an excellent book--clear, concise, and very easy to read. I should note, however, that I discovered three mistakes within the first fifteen minutes of reading it. There are three misspellings located on pages 169 and 170 of the third edition, dated 1997. This can be very confusing, especially when the author is attempting to draw a distinction between "counselor" and "counselor" (the second should be "councilor"), or when he states, "Even in respected newspapers, consensus is sometimes misspelled 'consensus' (sic)..."

These types of errors tend to undermine my confidence that I'm reading reliable information. Aside from this complaint, though, the books seems to be exceptional. A corrected edition would be a great resource for any writer.

A simple guide to the world of grammar!
Many grammar books are hard to read and even more difficult to use. Barron's A pocket guide to correct grammar is the opposite of both. This book is both easy to read and to use. The index is clear and concise which helps even the most novice user when it comes to comprehending the ins and outs of correct grammar.

Maybe the best basic grammar one can buy (for the price)!
This book is a combination of ESSENTIALS OF ENGLISH and some other English book. ESSENTIALS OF ENGLISH by Hopper, et al., is an excellent grammar, because it not only presents traditional grammar in a concise and straightforward manner but also gives points for differentiating between prepositions and subordinating conjunctions (for example) and other such distinctions. This grammar is especially good for rusty or beginning students primarily because of its simplicitly. It is nevertheless fairly comprehensive. Honestly, I could not recommend any grammar more highly for the average student of English. adveniat regnam Tuam...

An engaging, clever book
I was intrigued initially by the title, which is similiar to title of my own novel, "The Messenger."

The Second Messenger is a lively read with engaging, likable characters and a well-crafted plot that accurately reflects a New Age philosophy without being preachy. This is a book that has something to say, but doesn't hit you over the head with the message.

Biomech as Second Coming
I loved the story twist of having the return of Christ inhabiting a computer programmed biomech, from the future no less. This is a great feel-good story with suspense, sci-fi and spiritual truth all rolled into one. Reiterates the old message of love in modern terms.

Second Messenger
Second Messenger is more than a riveting science-fiction novel, it is a guidebook for living a fuller life. By applying REL's parables to your daily existance your life becomes richer on a daily basis. This is a story of Spirit and transcends all religions and mindsets. The advice contained within can be used by anyone on a spiritual quest. There is only love and everything else that isn't love. There is only Spirit and everything else that isn't Spirit. Be sure to set aside a block of time to read this because once you start you will not want to set it down until the last page is read.

I thought that this was not a true story but when my teacher read this book to the calss she told us that it was a true story and she told us what the book was about. I watched the movie in Grade 9.

Fannie Flagg's "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe": A Study Guide from Gale's "Novels for Students"
Published in Digital by The Gale Group (23 July, 2002)
Amazon base price: $3.95

Notes for real readers
Rather than taking the place of reading the novel, this supplement offers lots of help with putting its themes into focus. The character reviews are helpful, but the best part may be Angeline Godwin Dvorak's essay on how food functions in the novel as nurturing in Southern culture. The historical commentaries are also helpful.

Going back to Whistle Stop Alabama
This novel is so amazing. I have passed it on to family and friends ever since I have read it because I want everyone to read it! This novel holds everything you can search for in a story- adventure, romance, humor, tragedy, everything! I don't know how Fannie Flagg did it, but I believe she created the epiphany of the greatest book ever written.

Field Guide to the Birds of the Middle East
I would actually rate this book at a 4.99. The reason I did not give it a 5 is that the maps only show the breeding or summer range. Other than that the book is outstanding. The colors vivid and the artwork is exceptional. The plates have brief descriptions that you need in the field and in the back of the book the author goes into greater depth and gets really specific, this format is different than any other guide I have and I liked it. When and if it ever comes out in soft cover it should be the book to carry when visiting the Middle East.
Do not get caught without this field guide when traveling in this area, it is a must to have! The price is just right.

the best dictionary for birds in the middle-east
this book is the best dictionary for birds watchers to watch, recognize, identify & mapping the distribution of birds in the middle east region. birds watchers can learn a lot from the discriptions, wanderful and accurate drawings, distribution maps and details supply by the authors. The variety of birds species in this book is enormous!

GOOD BUT NOT GREAT.......Omits too much to be truly helpful.
I have studied yoga, ayurveda, vedic astrology and gemstone healing. I find Ronnie's book to be "watered down" in information to appeal to the mainstream tropical astrology reader. It is big on generalities and light on applicable individual analysis. I consider this a "pop-psychology" overview of various healing tools that are available rather than an endeavor allowing one to obtain a true reading of the Self. Too many very important variables are not considered to be of any real value in a serious attempt to understand the Self and healing one's spiritual, mental, emotional and physical issues. Any of Dr. David Frawley's books would be much more helpful and beneficial to the serious seeker of truth in search of knowledge and understanding of oneself.

Excellent synthesis of astrology and holistic approaches...
I really like this book. Dreyer has given us a book which delineates the affects that our astrological sun signs have on our health and well-being, on several levels. She explains the various influences of the planets (and does cover rising and moon signs a bit), and coordinates them with suggestions for shoring up areas of weakness and dealing from strengths.

I especially like her inclusion of the East Indian Ayurvedic doshas (there are three, Pita, Vatta, and Kapha) and how they correlate with the western astrological information. She gives practical suggestions on diet, exercise, meditation, herbs, supplements, and behavioral modifications to help bring yourself into better balance and good health. An excellent resource!

Healing Signs
This is an excellent book for anyone interested in healing techniques, astrology, or both. For astrological neophytes, this is the sort of book that will probably send people scurrying out to buy more books. For more advanced astrologers there is also some interesting and useful information, but this IS a Sun Sign book. If you don't like Sun Sign books, too bad. You'll miss out on a good book! I found the information on aromatherapy, gem therapy, and color thereapy interesting. There were also a lot of little tips and techniques for dealing with headaches, weight gain, panic attacks and more. I am not a holistic health expert, but the book appears to be well-researched, with numerous listings of health, healing, and astrology books and resources. Not everyone can write good Sun Sign material. Ronnie Dreyer has managed to write an excellent Sun Sign book that would be a terrific introduction to astrology. Check it out!
