More top flight Lin Carter!
I am sure that when most people read these astounding adventures of Prince Zarkon, that they see the ghost of Robeson's Doc Savage moving through the pages. (Though to me Zarkon seems a more original, believable character than Doc Savage.) But when I read Volcano Ogre (note to Amazon.com - I believe the word in the title is "Ogre" not "Orge"!) I think back to those great Scooby Doo cartoons I used to watch as a kid. Scooby and the gang were always battling some villan who was masquerading as a mysterious monster. Volcano Ogre has the same feel, though of course Lin Carter's novel has a lot more depth than a 1 hour cartoon. Doc Menlo is like the brainy Valerie, only more so; and Scorchy can be likened to Shaggy. Of course, no cartoon character compares to the towering literary figure which is Prince Zarkon. I guess you've got to read this book - and I highly recommend it - to appreciate what Lin Carter has crafted here.

Colonial Life Becomes "Real" in Felicity's World/1774
I was amazed to find this title at the Texas Library Association Conference in Houston, Texas last week. The book jumped out at me when I passed the American Girls exhitbit booth. The colorful cover conveys a realistic scene from Felicity's time in U. S. History that took me back over 200 years. From the first page to the last, I was riveted to find out more details. The paintings, maps, and drawings help to tie together how colonists lived and carried out their daily chores in their families and in their communities. Cutaways and aerial scenes take the reader into the action of the time, especially those where girls and women were active in the Revolutionary War: Sybil Ludington who was a Patriot soldier and Eliza Wilkinson who refused to play her guitar for a British soldier. I give this book 5 gold stars and hope to read the other Welcome to the American Girl books soon.

Who is Queen of the Forest?

Delightful Little Tale With a Moral, Richly Illustrated
Lin's adaptation of this ancient Chinese fable for young children infuses an ancient tale with an unsurpassed richness and playfullness in the telling.

The story unfolds in the bamboo forests of ancient China, where a clever fox must outwit a hungry tiger bent on eating her. Along the way we meet many forest animals who unwittingly help the fox to trick the "Queen of the Forest."

Written in clear, well crafted, simple prose, the book suits the young and exploratory mind well, providing both a moral: (that intelligent thinking often overcomes great might), and an adventurous and suspensful discovery of that moral.

The book is lovingly and dynamically illustrated, with colourful scenery which leaps from the pages: from the faces of the animals, filled with human personality, to the lush green, inviting backdrop of the bamboo forests.

All in all, a wonderful and passionate little book. I highly recommend it!

A must read book for Today's acupuncturists
First, I'm happy to be see the book on Amazon.com. I think that Dr. Lao intended this book as a comprehensive, systematic, and academic introduction to Wrist-Ankle Acupuncture, a specialized technique utilizing 12 acupoints that was developed 30 years ago. This technique is readily to be incorporated into your practice as well. The book provides a general introduction and symptom/sign location, selection of points, and needling techniques. Clinical applications are presented by category, and include a wide range of pain conditions as well as internal, psychological, neurological, dermatological, gynecological, and EENT disorders. A brief section at the end of the text presents possible theories and correlation relative to TCM and modern science.

Lin Carter delivers another winner!
This puzzle yarn is the devious Lin Carter's most puzzling yet! You will be kept guessing until the last pages in this crafty, twisting caper. But this novel is more than just convoluted mystery solving, Lin Carter develops characters with equal brilliance. I confess Scorchy Muldoon is my favorite - somehow I envision the irreverant antics of Keith Moon (drummer of the Who) when Lin Carter describes the irrepressible Pride of the Muldoons. Why are these Zarkon books out of print? Give me more cases from the Omega files!

Zarkon is Great!
Nemesis of Evil is absolutely the best puzzle yarn book I have ever read. Lin Carter has crafted a marvellous mystery that kept me guessing until the very end. I finished the entire book in just a few days, even missed watching a Dallas Mavericks game! Besides a great mystery, Lin Carter has populated the book with an amazing diverse cast of characters: Doc Menlo, Ace Harrington, and my favorite: Scorchy Muldon. I wish Scorchy got a little more of the "action" he is always pining for. The only aspect of the book that is a bit unbelievable is that Lin Carter would have us believe Zarkon is virtually anonymous. What? A handsome bronze hunk like him, a Prince, a vastly wealthy man? Prince Zarkon would be on the cover of GQ, People, Business Week, etc. As an added bonus, the cover of my copy of Nemesis of Evil has a Don Maitz painting!

The Trumpet Of The Swan
By:E.B.White
Review by:S.Choi
Period 2
This book is about the life of a trumpeter swan named Louis.Louis can't trumpet. He actually can't even make a sound. So his father wants to help him, and steals a trumpet from a music store for Louis to play.Louis becomes a famous musician with that trumpet. He also loves a beautiful swan, Serena. So he plays the trumpet for her, and win his love.
I loved this book a lot.Because this book is a interesting story."Ko-hoh! he said, through his trumpet."This part has a good imagination of swan saying.I read this book very eagerly.E.B. White wrote this book makes me not want to stop reading. He is my favorite author.
"he was in inhabit such a beautiful earth, how lucky he had been to solve his problems with music, and how pleasant it was to look forward to another night of sleep and another day tomorrow, and the fresh morning, and the light that returns with the day."When I read this part, I feel warm and comfortable.Because it explains the nature, living, and life very well.
My favorite part is when Louis is at Camp Kookooskoos. At the camp, Louis gets medal and a lot of money for saving Applegate.I like this part the best.Because I read and know taht he was very brave and kind. When he saved Applegate from a horrible waterfall, I feel want to be brave as much as Louis.Camp is very great outdoor activity and fun.

One of the finest children's books ever written
Often overlooked in favor of CHARLOTTE'S WEB (and probably STUART LITTLE, what with the film coming out), THE TRUMPET OF THE SWAN is an unforgettable, poetic and deeply moving story of love, friendship, and most importantly, coming to terms with a disability. I read this book as a child, and years later, can appriciate it on a whole new level. Years after I read this book, I was diagnosed with fine and gross motor disabilities, which made tasks like handwriting very difficult for me. Thanks to computers and the like, I have been able to surpass this problem- and am now actually pursuing an English Major in college. One of the things that helped me over the years was thinking back to this book, with its story of Louis the mute swan, whose father commits a crime to give him a trumpet to let his voice be heard and live some semblance of a normal life- and how Louis, in a quest to repay the world for his father's crime, manages to win the heart of his great love and gain world-wide fame. Written in White's own simple yet profound prose (this is the co-author of THE ELEMENTS OF STYLE, after all), no one who reads this book will ever forget it. This book literally changed my life- buy a copy, and let it change someone else's life as well.

The Trumpet of the Swan
I would recommend the book, The Trumpet of the Swan, to anyone who likes a loving and caring book. I liked it because the characters are so funny, smart, caring, and loving. One of my favorite characters in the book is Louis, a swan who can't talk but can write in English and willingly plays the trumpet for all of his fans. I also liked Sam, a boy who unexpectedly meets Louis in his hometown and tries to help Louis. Other characters include Sam's father, Mr. Beaver, Louis' father, mother, and brothers, Serena, Louis' girlfriend/wife, and many other interesting people that Louis meets in his adventures. The Trumpet of the Swan taught me two lessons. The first is to never give up. Louis never gives up on his dreams. The other leson I happily learned from this book is to always try your best. Louis did the very best he could in any situation he ran into. I think everyone should read this book because it is entertaining, fun, and teaches valuable lessons about life. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves an exciting and uplifting story.

Good, but not Great
I am a little mixed about the book. One on hand it is excellent for giving down-to-earth, easy to understand Feng Shui principles. On the other hand, it fails to mention many important aspects about Feng Shui itself, such as the Elements. The book talks about what to do when the energy for a certain room is negative because of certain placements like the kitchen or the bathroom. But it fails to talk about the elements of each room and how to balance them. In fact the book recommends bamboo for nearly every "treatment", but that is really impractical because it doesn't even explain the elements. The elements of water is briefly discusses, but the others: fire, air, metal, and wood arent even mentioned. I was very discouraged when I read the book and found this out. Please if you are looking for a book on Feng Shui, find another one.

Great for beginners and practitioners alike.
I've worked with David Kennedy on three houses over two years. Each house was bigger and better than the last, a testament to the feng shui advice I received. I've learned a lot from David, studied with Profess Lin Yun, David's teacher, and have read many feng shui books. This is the best resource I've found. I use it to refresh my memory of details on cures I know. It reminds me of cures I forgot . And it has taught me new cures and principles. Anyone can benefit from the knowledge generously given in this book. Many thanks for a truly worthwhile effort.

An excellent book
I found this book really clear, easy to read and concise. If there's one Feng Shui book to get, this is it.
