Basic Tantra
I have been a student of Bohdi's for some time now and cannot recommend her highly enough. Direct and to the point she dives right into the heart of what it means to be a tantric practitioner. There is no substitute for experience and Bohdi is a living example of this teaching that if it doesnt serve your growth, move on. A sanyassin of Osho, student to many teachers (and visa-versa), Bodhi has synthesized a system for rapid spiritual growth via the tantric path. And most importantly, she teaches straight forward and from the heart space. This book is a classic and a must have for any Tantric library. Namaste to Bohdi and all on this path.........
PS She has recently published a second volume of material. Also highly recommended.

The Jewel in the Wound: How the Body Expresses the Needs of the Psyche and Offers a Path to Transformation
Published in Paperback by Chiron Pubns (2001)
Author: Rose-Emily Rothenberg
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:

Brave work of inner exploration, healing, self-knowledge
Rothenberg's book works on many levels, as brilliant self analysis, exploration of the orphan's psychology, the mind-body connection, and early childhood trauma. It is also a moving memoir that stands on its own. Jewel in the Wound is a tremendous template for anyone beginning or engaged in any kind of self-analysis or therapy. Rothenberg's gift to us is her psychological knowledge combined with her willingness to reveal how that knowledge helps her confront her own psychological scars (literal and otherwise).

Exciting, emotionally satisfying Climax
I don't know what happened to the review of this book that I wrote three months ago, but here goes again. This is the concluding book in the four-book Treasure Quest Series, following _Silver Highway_, which was set along the Mississippi River and in Pennsylvania during the late 1850's, _Colorado Gold_, which followed some of the characters west and introduced some new ones as the Civil War was beginning back East, and _Out of the Crucible_. In _Jewel of Promise_ we return to Pennsylvania and to the South as the Civil War begins. Alex and Olivia, who met and fell in love in _Silver HIghway_ are seen for the first time since that book, as they seek to do the little that they can to hold their splintering country together. As southerners, they love the soon-to-be-seceding states as their first home, but as seemingly unlikely recruits to the underground railroad who have come to know and love Quaker friends in the north, they cannot willingly follow their home states out of the Union. After a visit to Alex's family in South Carolina, whom Olivia had not previously met, they return northward amid obstacles created by the newly begun war. Alex and his friend, Mike, who has been recently piloting Alex's riverboat, the Golden Awl, become involved in the Union war effort. Olivia and Beth, a young woman from Kentucky who has run away from home and won Mike's heart, work on the homefront, which in this war is sometimes dangerously near the battlefields. Soon Olivia's brother, Matthew, and her Creole school friend, Crystal, return from the western territories as well, and their hope to remain reunited is tested sorely by the war. For all of these characters _Jewel of Promise_ is a story of hope (symbolized by the brooch that Alex gives Olivia), dangerous captures and escapes, fighting to help others amid hate, hard decisions about political loyalties and love, the difficulty sometimes of being honest with oneself and others, and the struggle to keep hope alive when circumstances appear hopeless. Wells evokes varied scenes at home and in battle and shows vividly how both the many continuing characters and the new ones, like Mike and Beth, grow gradually and believebly. I finished this book feeling sorry that the story was over and that I would not again see these characters whom I had come to care about so much that I had devoured the latter three books of the series in a week of constant reading. Still, Marian Wells had by the end accomplished all that she needed to in order to satisfy a reader's curiosity and anxiety about the characters' experience of the war, so even as I was sorry to leave the characters, I was happy that I had read the books. If you want an exciting historical novel with romance and the added dimension of Christian elements that grow naturally out of the characters, rather than seeming stuck in for their own sake without being necessary, then try the Treasure Quest Series.

Oh to service the men in a caravan...
Our leading lady grows up in a small out post in the desert where her aunt and cousin service the travelers who come through. This set up alone is just enough to fufill my every fantasy. New and exciting partners who want only to please you and leave you goods from distant lands... Our unusual looking heroine is still a virgin, but soon finds herself in the court of Xanadu. There is plenty of hot scenes, including male/male which our hero enjoys!! There is something so free and wonderfull about the adventures in Xanadu. The most satisfying moment for me was when the heroine retreives the ruby from the guard. She is so very selfless... This is one of my favorit Black Lace books.

Crash Course to Enlightenment
This book is suggested, in my opinnion, for those people with a basic understanding of Buddhism. It should be a follow up to introductory texts, which explain some fundamental Buddhist beliefs and the system of thought from whence it comes.
This book is not written simply, and it is especially a text which should be studied in greater detail than say, a novel, becuase here are the rites of one path to awareness.
Ofcourse, some of the ideas are TOO MUCH, and one should be always be aware of the differences between our age and the age in which is was written, for back then times were different, teachers were less scarce, and the teachings far more accepted.
But this is a fundamental book which should be read. Take it with grain of salt, be aware, because it displays methods. And the results of those methods are what we are ultimately concerned with, things that change our perspectives, and in essence, ourselves.

The Jewel Tree of Tibet: The Enlightenment Engine of Tibetan Buddhism

An American Buddhist speaks from his heart
This is a six cassette, nine hour designed-for-publication recording of a retreat conducted by renowned American Buddhist Tibet-o-phile, Robert Thurman, whose many credentials are too numerous to mention. The recurrent theme of the recording is a relatively simple visualization excercise, whereby the meditator draws inspiration and compassion from revered beings--the Buddha and his lineage descendents of enlightened teachers, for example, (although according to Thurman, a non-Buddhist might draw equivalent inspiration from the likes of Christ, Moses, etc.)--and then extends such heartfelt loving kindness to others. Thurman guides the listener through this meditation several times through the tape, making it familair and workable. However, in my estimation, the brilliance of the tape rests in everything else Thurman wraps around this meditation, which turns out to be a condensed discussion about the history of Buddhism, its contrast to much of Western scientific, materialistic, philosophical and psychological thought, and how the major tenants of Buddhism, in a very practical sense, can become believable and workable for your everyday common-man Western-raised student.

Thurman, by anyone's estimation, is a compelling speaker, who somehow blends passion, eloquence, intellectual challenge and humor in trying in discussing the most complex of subjects, and he largely succeeds on this tape. His mission, seemingly, is simply to make Buddhism more understandable by interpreting it into a more American/Western idiom, without changing the 2500 year message. Nevetheless, in accordance with the subject, much of the material discussed is mature and intellectually and emotionally challenging. These talks are almost the antithesis of typical "new-age", feel-good type Jacuzzi-Buddhism relaxation tapes, (although I believe Thurman intends these talks to be accessible to the beginning--but serious--Buddhist).

Some of this material, but not the visualization, is contained within his recent book "Inner Revolution, Life , Liberty and the Pursuit of Real Happiness", although the tapes gladly spare the listener of all the political commentary of that book. I can imagine many future listeners, much as myself, revisiting these tapes repeatedly because of their authentic message delivered through a delightful human voice.
