Gorgeous Photographs! Delightful Text!
The most amazing thing about this beautiful book is its cost. It's a magnificent coffee-table size photo album of San Diego and environs and it sells for less than $$. Yes, it's a paperback but the price is still a bargain! The size and the quality of the color photographs bring San Diego to life, as does the charming text by Charlene Baldridge. This is a love letter to a city that is famous for its weather and zoo and underappreciated for its cultural attractions. Ms. Baldridge states in her introduction, "As those who live here [in San Diego] discovered long ago, one visit is not enough, and the second could last a lifetime." What follows is her guided tour of the city: it's Cultural History, Entertainment, Arts and Culture, Nearby Attractions and list of Resources that includes the attraction's name, address, phone number and website. This book is the perfect souvenir for anyone who lives in San Diego, visits San Diego, or dreams about a trip to San Diego.

Timeless and crystallized, but extremely difficult reading
This book is very rough going for the modern Western reader. The teachings are timeless, but the writing style and context are extremely dated (it was written at least 1300 years ago). I would not recommend this to anyone who is not already very advanced in knowledge of Hinduism and Advaita Vedanta, unless you're simply looking for an unusual reading experience. There are many books just as 'enlightening' (see "I Am That" by Nisargadatta Maharaj), and written in a modern context that makes far more sense to the reader of today.

Lovely photos, fair figures, lacking on text
This is an excellent book. I was impressed by the photos of different marine mollusks in their native habitats, often engaged in complex feeding activities (especially note Colubraria feeding on a parrot fish through it's mucus bubble). It's very nice to see, for a change, a book dedicated to the living organisms that we as Conchologists often tend to forget when engaging in this hobby. I have an extensive collection of shell books and would say to the best of my knowledge this book simply has some of the finest mollusk habitat photography of any book I've seen. I wish they included a bit more text; I felt that a little more info with those excellent photos this would have made this a classic text. Instead it is a excellent book for the amature collector looking for more than the typical identification of shells book. That maybe a mis-characterization as there was information in the text that was new to me (and I have been in this hobby for 30 years), but a lot of the text seemed 'wanting'. Well worth a look see.

Transcribed past the language barrier by Buddhists
The Sixth Patriarch's Dharma Jewel Platform Sutra is an impressive and "reader accessible" English translation of the fundamental text of Ch'an Buddhism encompassing the life and teachings of Master Hui Neng, the Great Master the Sixth Patriarch, as penned by one of his disciples. Effectively rendered into English by the Buddhist Text Translation Society, and enhanced with commentary by Triptaka Master Hua (an orthodox Buddhist leader), The Sixth Patriarch's Dharma Jewel Platform Sutra presents a Buddhist text transcribed past the language barrier by Buddhists in behalf of a western readership, in order to better spread wisdom and understanding among men and women of all faiths. Highly recommended reading, The Sixth Patriarch's Dharma Jewel Platform Sutra is an especially recommended contribution to Buddhist Studies reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

A Book To Dream On
The story of a young Plains Indian who traveled to Europe in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Rodeo, this book is extraordinary and moving. The story is fun, but it is the illustrations that bring this book to the level of genuine art: the pictures are completely magical. This book transformed my day after reading it: I felt renewed by it's beauty and innocence.
