This is a concise book which will get you passed on the 70-058 exam and teach you something along the way. You could pass the exam with just this, but I would recommend pairing it with the Microsoft Press study guide as Kinnaman's networking essentials book has no test questions.

This book lives up to all its good reviews. Guarantee yourself a better grade by buying and reading it. It is exactly what it says, a "Study Guide". Although you can pass the exam with just this book, I recommend learning the material in a lengthier manner. Either take the instructor-led courses or buy the Microsoft training kits (I bought the kits), and then read this book just before you take the exam, using it as a "Study Guide". With the help of this book, I passed by a wide margin on my first attempt. There were a couple items covered in the book that were not covered in the MS training kit, but which did appear on the exam. (I won't be specific because of the NDA).

A friend recommended that I purchase a Kinnaman MCSE study guide for my first exam. I have since passed two tests, currently studying for my third. These books are all you need to pass.

I read this book and it helped me pass!!! The test Questions were jusk like the in the book. It covers everything that you need to pass!!!

Not much else to add to the previous reviews. If you study for the CCNA certification, this guide would probably be all you need to pass the test. I would also get the Lammle's book as well to cover any blank spots... If you are ready to take it beyond the CCNA level, I would also look into getting the following books:

1. "Cisco IOS for IP Routing" by Andrew Colton. A lot of information on IP routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, etc.).
2. "Routing TCP/IP, volume I" by Jeff Doyle. Covers just as much as the Colton's book.
3. "Interconnections: Routers, Bridges..." by Radia Perlman. Good academic info on routing and bridging. Overkill for the CCNA to CCNP level though.

I find this book to be well written and to the point at hand. It is is not a long book but is compact and short, yet the information found in this book is very valuable for anyone is interested in taking the CCNA exam.

For any Prince loyalist this will probably be a review of the many other books,articles or interviews done before.There are a few interesting inside stories outside the music that I found interesting. I have followed Prince's career since it started over 20 years ago. For any true musical artist on any level this is a must read.It serves as a blueprint of sorts that lays out a career and life guided by one thing, music. Whether a curse or a blessing, the exhaustive work ethic and the effect it has on the people who work with Prince, was obviously everlasting.The book will make anyone who loves music, appreciate the incredible dedication and need Prince has for his craft.Media hype and perceived imaged aside, Prince is truly one of a kind. There hasn't been anything close to him since he started his career over 20 years ago and as witness to today's state of music there won't be anytime soon. You must respect and appreciate that if nothing else.

I know this is rather premature as the book hasn't been published yet, but having read large chunks featured in the independent fanzine called Uptown - I know this book will surpass all others concerning Prince, the Artist or whatever you want to call him.

Indeed, regardless of how you feel about him and his music today, there is no doubt that Prince was the most exciting, invigorating, influential and innovative musician / performer throughout the 80's. No one came close, not Madonna, and certainly not Mr M Jackson.

So if you have gone off him of late, don't worry, this book covers up until the end of the 80's.

Having gained unprecedented access to band members, recording engineers and collaborators from that period, this book takes you behind the scenes of Prince's world into Minneapolis, 1st Avenue, Sunset Sound and Paisley Park; providing insights into Prince's recordings, released and unreleased, side projects and tours.

I could go on, perhaps I will repost once I've read the entire book, and it's obvious I am a fan but whatever you think of the person - just don't dismiss the sounds he's given to us.

After many Prince biographies that merely scratch the surface of such an amazing career, "DMSR" goes to new levels of detail and insight.

This book includes quotes from almost every person who worked with Prince in the late 70s and 80s and chronicles previously unknown record projects and the meaning behind great albums such as "The Black Album".

The forward by Alan Leeds (the writer of the liner notes for "The Hits" album) just about sums up Per Nilsen and includes the quote:

"If every artist as worthwhile as Prince has a historian as fastidious as Per, the future of this genre of musicology is safe and sound. The bookshelvels will be singing."

I found this book to be both fascinating and a great read. Every chapter brought to light many factors that have influenced Prince's music, things that I had never beeen aware of, even though I have followed his career for more than 16 years.

If you're a Prince fan, or just remotely intersted in what shaped his career then go buy this book !

Can't wait for Prince: The Second Decade !!! :-)

February 28th, 2001. A day which shall live in infamy... the day when Microsoft retired the Windows NT MCSE exams, making hundreds of certification prep books obsolete.

But not this one.

The core exams may be gone, but the products they taught and tested - NT Server, NT Workstation, Windows 95 - are still omnipresent on corporate networks and technician's workbenches. If you are responsible for the care and feeding of older versions of Windows, and most Win2k MCSEs are, then you need to understand everything in this book. Additionally, much of this material has been added to CompTIA's revised A+ exam, so this book remains an excellent certification study guide (just for a different certification!).

Forget the title - if you need a quick reference or refresher on Windows NT networking, this is still one of the best on the shelf.

[Note: in the second edition of this book, the Windows 95 section has been replaced by an equivalent section on Windows 98. They are otherwise identical].

This book and the "Elective Exams in a Nutshell" were the primary references I used for getting my MCSE (NT 4.0). There is about 70 pages on each exam to study. Some books take 400 pages to deliver the exact same information.

The beginner will probably want additional references along with this book though. (because it is so compact the beginner might have trouble with it if they don't have other references)

I passed all of my exams on the first try with very little studying because of this book. It is absolutely the best source of information for passing the exams (not to mention one of the cheapest). I found it much better then the Trancender Exams which are so popular (and expensive I might add).

(note: this book will be out of date very soon though and you should probably look for a newer edition)

I have passed the NT Server, workstation, and enterprise exams...primarily using this book as a study guide. While the sample questions in each unit are not exactly like the actual test, the core content is right on target. I know of others that have spent the hundreds of dollars on reference material, and we do not share the same enthusiam for our purchase.

I am looking forward to adding the O'Reilly series of books to my collection of desktop resources...I have not been dissatisfied yet!

After reading some of Emmett's articles in Windows NT Systems magazine, I decided to buy this book. I'm glad I did. Emmett's style lends itself to easy reading and fast learning and review for the exam. Don't waste your money on an expensive "novel". If you know a little bit about TCP/IP and want a supplement to cover the areas you need to know for the exam, then buy this book and get the TCP/IP exam behind you!!!

I used to think that the bigger the book was, the better the information would be, and subsequently I'd be better prepared. After several big books on TCP/IP, I've found that this one gets right to the point with just what I need to make it through.

I used the New Riders NT Server in the Enterprise book and was quite impressed, so I purchased their Fast Track TCP/IP for my next test. It is well laid out and gives you all the information that you need to pass the exam. Using this book as my primary source (together with exam cram and lab work) I passed the test with a 1000.

I bought this book as a complement to Couchman's Oracle 8i DBA Certification Guide (from Oracle Press), because the latter's networking coverage was clearly a rushed effort. The Exam Cram book does an admirable job covering the bases needed for the Oracle networking exam. In general, the material is explained well and concisely. Overall the test questions in the book matched the breadth of those on the real test. There are a couple of notable exceptions. My test had FOUR "fill in the blank with the name of the parameter or view" questions. (Giving V$SHARED_SERVERS instead of V$SHARED_SERVER is wrong). There are no questions of this type in the book. Additionally, the actual test generally asked more demanding questions regarding CMAN and MTS than are in this book (in my opinion).

If you're taking the 8i exam, be sure to look over the Oracle docs on load balancing, which is not fully covered in this volume (which is designated for 8).

This book loses a star due to the sheer volume of silly typos and cut-and-paste errors. A look at Coriolis's errata page (on their web site) for this book reveals over 50 reported errors. I found many more, about one every other page. And on the web site errata page the utility "lsnrctl" is spelled, in multiple places, as "1snrct1" (digit 1 instead of letter l)! Doesn't anyone proofread this stuff? (The author works at the Washington Post!)

I highly recommend this book for those people who are preparing OCP exam. The context arrangment is very well and just fit the exam requirenment. The sample questions (especially the final sample test) is a must for you which give you a sense that what will the exam questions look like. Although actual experience is important, the book enables me to pass the exam with flying color. Readers should always aware the typos.

Got this book 1 week ago. At that time i scored about 50 % on the Self Test software test. Today I passed the real thing, scoring 82 %, the only difference having read this book. In addition to covering everything you need to know about Oracle Networking to pass, it also contains invaluable hints about test-taking-strategies. Too many typos, though

As a co-author of other books in this series, I have had the priviledge of working with Dave Kinnaman. His attention to detail and precision of accuracy is at the forefront of everything he writes. In this book, TCP/IP, Dave doesn't fail his readers. Painstakingly accurate, it delivers a portrait of each of the various aspects of this protocol and the corresponding specialties of Windows NT. The sections on binary math and subnetting finally bring, in one chapter, the clearest explanation of this difficult subject you will find anywhere. And if understanding DNS and WINS has been an issue for you, then look no further than this book for a solid explanation.

The title of this book is misleading, you cannot and WILL not pass Exam 70-059 by studing this book alone. That's the bad part...

What you'll get though, is an astonishing detailed, accurate, and REAL world examples of how TCP/IP and Subnetting/Mask truly work. How many books have you read but only to be disappointed by lack of Subnet/Mask explaination?

I personally have read through more than a dozens of them but NONE can really explain TCP/IP, They CLAIM they know -- BUT where are the explaination and notes? Two pages? Get real! None comes EVEN CLOSE to this book. Some of the books just explain the "concepts" rather than any real world knowledge how it actually works.

For the first time in my life, I TRULY understand how TCP/IP, Subnetting, Subnet Masks, and Router all work together, Dave Kinnaman deserves the highest recoginition for his work. You've earned my respect for life. Please keep up the excellent work.

This is the second test I took, due to following one of the three test paths given in this series of books. Just reading this book and combining it with the Transcender practice tests I passed with 230 points to spare. TCP/IP is supposed to be one of the hardest exams and this book made it easy.

This book covers every point in the OCP exams for Financials consultants. Lots of hands-on exercises, and lots of wise perspective from someone who obviously has done a lot of installations. Considering what the book contains, it's price is really low.

This is the most thorough book on Financials I've seen. A must-have, whether you're going for the OCP certification or not.

Last year I used Oracle Press's OCP Developer exam guide to prepare for, and pass, the Developer/2000 exams. The book worked great. Now I need to apply my Forms knowledge to creating custom Financials screens, so I bought this book. Its excellent. It gives the underlying logic behind Financials, and then goes into screen-by-screen detail. Very helpful. After buying this book and starting to read it, I've rescheduled my first Apps exam from a month away to next week!

The MRI scans in this book show the effects of an exercise on the body parts exercised. You can use this to select routines to work all muscles on a body part you are working on.
I can already feel the difference in using this book.
I only hopew there will be a follow-up book to cover the Chest, Back, and Abs.

Although the contents of this book refers only to the concentric part of the rep inducing beginners or unexperienced readers to false intrepretations, it is with no shadow of doubt the most important tool that a trainer must keep under his pillow.

This book revives the art of the armblaster and brings it back into the mainstream where it belongs. This author uses the MRI to prove that this and other equipment are not antequaited, but rather something that needs to be a part of everyone's workout.

This is not the hardest Windows 2000 exam, but it's not the easiest either. My on the job experience and this book was all I needed to pass. Lots of good info above and beyond the exam as well, so I'll probably keep it on the shelf for a refernce book. DVD is cool...quick review that you can use if you're brain is fried from reading and studying. Overall, this one is the real deal.

Over the past 5 years usually I have already taken the certification test before reviewing the material, this way I can determine if the material would in fact help you pass the exam. For this book I decided to try it from the other way, use the book to see if I could pass the exam and this book did just that.

Having little experience with security in a Windows 2000 network environment I used this book as the primary source of material to study for the exam. I spent 2 solid weeks reading and practicing the labs, as well as watching the DVD videos. I passed the exam first on the first try on February 28th.

The book covers all objectives and I found the material to be right on the money with the exam questions I got. I also found that some of the material went beyond the actual exam which is certainly a bonus.

There were exercises with utilities like MBSA, URLScan, HFNetChk and QChain, which explain how to use the utility and when to use the utility. One thing I did find is the new version of MBSA has HFNetChk built in, so you may have to be flexible with the exercises. This can be fixed in the next edition.

Overall the material was very complete; there is also a web connection to Syngress where you can get a free web based exam. So if you are looking for a book that can help this one should work.

Syngress has hit a homerun with this 70-214 study guide and DVD combination. This book covers every aspect of this exam in very good detail and then offers you even more useful information that will go a long way towards keeping your network secure. The 2 hour DVD is an nice addition that hammers home some of the most important subjects. As well, the depth of the practice questions is superb...this is a rare thing anymore with study guides. This book is a sure fire winner that will help you to pass this exam...it sure did for me!!
