An Egyptian nobleman sets his heart upon a slave girl
The Cobra and the Lily by Sheri Cobb South is a sweeping, emotional romance set in Biblical times. Ra-Met, an Egyptian nobleman sets his heart upon a slave girl with a beautiful voice, yet she is committed to her faith in God. Yet when word that God will send the Angel of Death to take the firstborn children of all who do not have the blood of a lamb over their door, Ra-Met himself is in danger as an only child. The Cobra And The Lily is a compelling and recommended tale of love, spiritual devotion, sacrifice and redemption.

Biblical fiction at its best
What a lovely story! Passionately romantic without gratuitous sex, inspiring but never preachy, THE COBRA AND THE LILY is just the ticket for Christian women, Jewish women, or anyone who enjoys an engaging love story set against a richly detailed historical background.

Consider the universality of Mr. Verissimo's writings...
Thirty years after reading Erico Verissimo for the first time, his writing still awakens a consciousness in me that only good, universal writing can do.

Consider this as a book for life!
E. Verissimo talks in "Consider the lilies of the field" about a man that wants to get rid of the poverty of his infancy by leaving everything and everyone behind as he scales the ladder of power and fame as an important doctor. However, the past hits him back when the woman he loved in the past dies, leaving him with their child and many doubts about her, and what they once felt for one another. And this is just the beginning of his misadventures in the South of Brazil before WWII. Consider this a book for life - it talks straight to your heart from page one till the end. You really must be made of stone to dislike it!

Smugglers , Socialites and Soldiers of Fortune
Mason's characters always sparkle with diversity. Sung Wing-kei is a native of Hong Kong who is an offspring of a concubine belonging to a favorite general of Sun Yat-sen. He got his start in business by collaborating with the Japanese. Nina Tizzard is an exotic oriental ballet dancer whose career has been spent mostly in Europe. Add to this a generous sprinkling of smugglers, socialites, soldiers of fortune, ex-patriots and the usual line-up of military types, both foreign and domestic, and you have the ingredients of a typical Hugh North adventure.

From Bermuda to the Far East
Hugh North solves his twntieth case in the GRACIOUS LILY AFFAIR. The story bears the usual Mason trademarks of thorough research, exotic locales, a smorgasbord of intriguing characters and a plot that includes a series of murders and a puzzle to solve within the larger riddle. Bermuda is where it all begins when a Portuguese plane carrying a courier crashes offshore. What stands out most in a Colonel North story is the attention to detail. In this instance we are introduced to more than sixty sites between Bermuda and the Far East. There are also some interesting tidbits on local ethnic customs.

You don't need to understand what channeling is
Channeling is not for me, but that didn't stop me to read the material channeled by someone else and get valuable information.
I quickly went through the first five chapters.
The sixth chapter is the most important one: "Conclusion: Our Message to Earth". It addresses the most important subjects in our life, and that alone makes this book worth to read.
The messages make a lot of sense: they are deep, they are pointing towards the direction we're heading.
Among all the negativities and uncertainties today, the channeled messages are POSITIVE, uplifting, strengthening and giving us HOPE.
Again, you don't have to have interest in channeling to gain valuable information from this book.

Answers the questions
I've read the first few chapters of this book and I am so happy I came across it. If you've been into metaphysics for a while, it seems to answer many of the inconsistancies that run rampant. If you are drawn to channeling then you must start by reading this book!

The Lilies of the Field
I thought that this was a truly wonderful book. It was a down-to-earth book with a down-to-earth character. I loved this book. It was heart warming and inspiring. It again restored my faith in the human race and mankind. If you are feeling kinda low and down, this is just the book to cheer you up.

"...Indelible..."
I loved this book. It is one of the few books ever written about TRUE goodness of the human heart. Though only a 1-hour read, it is worth every minute. You'll come away from this book with a feeling of peace and happiness that you don't feel every day. So please, take an hour out of your busy schedule, and let this book capture you.

Breathtaking Regency Romance! Great cast & chemistry!
This is my first by Ms. Suson & I'll definitely be on the lookout for more! Lily takes as much pride in her acting talent as she does in being very capable of supporting herself & her siblings. Her sharp mind, strong character & fiercely independent spirit are a refreshing change to Damon who's bored by clinging, manipulative ninnyhammers. The emotional ups & downs both experience in the course of their relationship was done so beautiful & moving! The groveling scenes were good, too! In short, the whole story just meshed perfectly. I didn't want it to end!

A Gem, touching & hilarious - a story to leave you smiling.
Lily our heroine had been forced by circumstances to take to the stage at a tender age to support her younger siblings after their parents died. Forbidden to use the family name- so as not to disgrace the family who had disowned her parents for falling in love and marrying- Lily goes under the assumed name of Mrs. Culhane. To keep unwanted admirers at bay she used a fictitious husband whose both jealous and violent.

Our hero is Damon St. Clair, the Earl of Hawkhurst, also known as London's King of the Green Room. It is said that he's had every actress in London and that one girl even committed suicide when he wanted nothing more to do with her.

Damon is called to Bath by his half sister Phoebe because "disaster has struck" only to find that she wanted a new carriage. However the trip wasn't entirely a waste of time because Damon ran into his young cousin Pel, who as it turned out, has fallen in love with Lily, whom he believes is just "...as unhappily married..." as he is. This coming from the young man who only months before insisted that he could never love any other than Cecilia, now his pregnant wife. Picturing a "...fading beauty: a petite, delicate blonde with languishing mein, pouting mouth, and soulful blue eyes that would gaze with mendacious adoration at Pel.", so what was a concerned cousin to do, but seduce the woman away from Pel and reveal her for the grasping and greedy harpy she is. However things don't quite go as planned when Damon sets his eyes on a woman "...who was more striking than beautiful. ...her emerald eyes gleamed with mischief, and her generous mouth curved in a provocative smile. Her luxurious hair, piled high on her head, and reminded Damon of fine claret. He judged her to be about twenty-five. Taller than most of the admirers gathered round her, she had the carriage of an Amazonian queen." Deciding she was "infinitely superior to Mrs. Culhane" then, to his surprise only to realise that she was Mrs. Culhane and that she wasn't anything like the woman he imagined her to be. So together Lily and Damon conspire to make Pel believe that the two of them are having an affair so as to wean Pel off his infatuation and to turn his affections back to his young wife. A simple plan in theroy that becomes complicated when Lily and Damon fell in love.

A delightful story that leads you from Bath to Devon, and finally to London. I loved this Book. It was both touching and hilarious. Marlene Suson has a lovely writing style that is light and easy to read. If you are after a in-depth book about emotional turmoil and characters that emerge better people at the end of the text, then this book is not for you- it has none of that. The biggest turmoil of the book is Lily not wanting to marry Damon because she's an actress and it would cause a scandal if she married Damon. This is a well paced story that will leave you smiling and wishing for a sequel just to see how the characters are coming along.

Murder at the second lily pond
Murder at the second lily pond is a very funny mysteryin which a middle aged grocers wife from Brooklyn,N.Y. goes to England to help her son. He is in jail for murder and the real murderer must be caught to free him.She goes through funny scenes in which she tries to get the truth from her suspects. I heartedly recommend this book to all who enjoy mysteries andcomedy.

BEST SELLER
This novel heralds the debute of a likeable nonstereotypical protagonist who is credibly portrayed as determined to solve the crime while still being (endearingly, convincingly) an amatuer. I was captivated by this authors style and humor.

An outstanding African Victorian adventure story
Sadly, Rider Haggard is no longer required reading in the school system. Nevertheless, this rip-roaring action story about the early life of Umslopogas, a character more usually found in a supporting role in the novel Alan Quartermain, is probably Haggard's most poetic and free-flowing yarn. A multiplicity of interesting characters is to be found in this tale, although the central theme is the moving love story of Umslopogas and Nada (a native girl of great beauty). If you have been moved by West Side Story or Romeo and Juliet, and also enjoy a rollicking action-packed adventure saga, this book is a must for you!

A DEMONSTRATION OF THE ART OF STORY TELLING
Almost everyone is familiar with King Solomon's Mines, She and Alan Quatermain etc but I have encountered relatively few readers of Nada the Lily. This is extraordinary since it is one of Haggard's greatest stories. Given the scenario of an adventure/love story spread out accross the South African landscape during the ruthless and absolute rule of the Zulu king Chaka, this is, as they say, a story that has everything. In this regard I have often wondered that whilst Haggard is one the most filmed if not over filmed authors, Nada the Lily has never made it to the cinema even though it reads as if it was written for the big sreen and the bigger the screen the better.

"Of Swedish Ways"
This fine book is a compilation of the life experiences of wonderful old and new traditions of the people in Sweden. The author dedicated her life to the instruction of Svenska (the Language) and the everyday happenings in Sweden. Though is was written several years ago, it is timeless and always in fashion. The tome is divided into many chapters that are easy to read in that myths and maps as well as traditions and festivities are all introduced to the reader. Ms. Lorenzen was my beloved teacher in Minnesota, where she taught at the University and the American-Swedish Institute for many years.

Delightful
Although of no Swedish descent, I enjoyed this book thoroughly; since I like to read about different nationalities. But of course the Swedes must like it more for some of the language, which only they can understand.
