Blam, CaPow, and Whewie
Good Lord, its like I was just punched in the brain with a pair of iron knuckles. If only I had been aware of this book when I was wandering with Alice I may have had a little bit of direction or forsight. I may have been able to avoid a few meanderings in the depths of hell myself, and I may have saved a few years of cleanup time spent working that stuff out of my head. Anyway I must say that this book is full of possablities, great ideas which could easily (well not so easily, but productively) expand the mind into a new realm of though.

Marilyn Monroe(Garry Hixon) rates Cyclone!
To dolphins everywhere, this book also has the sensory deprivation tank, like in the William Hurt movie,Altered States. The movie was actually based on the book. Even with the Hallucinagenics, the tank brings out severe hallucinations, into other worlds and it really tempts people to try a Dep. tank! Makes us realize that Dolphins are smarter than humans because of their brain size. See's the brain as a personally programable bio'computer, where you become, what you put into yourselves. I first was turned on to this book in 1982, and it really opened my consciousness. Recomend for anyone that wants a good laugh, or should I say an intelligent laugh, on the introspective methods of the working dolphin and human brain-Bravo John Lilly-May your work continue and the Dolphins be as free as a human-Marilyn(Garry)

This Stuff is Pure Sandoz!!
An autobiography of Inner Space is indeed what is happening here. Dolphin researcher turned consciousness explorer reaches heights that Timothy Leary so much admired about him. The book journeys from his youth to his research days at the dolphin labs and his scientific and personal discoveries and relays them to the reader in such humbleness that one cant help but to empathize and rejoice in his discoveries. Once his dolphin research was abolished, he took it upon himself to turn to neurology and neurological drugs, i.e. LSD-25, or as they called it "Pure Sandoz." It is here where his naieve approach to drugs really comes out in his writing, as he was not afraid of them, but also had never tried them (LSD in particular). Lilly read everrything he could on LSD before trying it (study before trial, similar to magic and all forms of initiation. Today with psychedelic drugs illegalized almost everywhere in the world (a conspiracy if you ask me), Lilly never condones this method (drugs) to attain self knowledge. Lilly in his deep moments of self reflection and depression understood that it could be achieved through other means without drugs. From here, is where he finalizes his journey. A marvelous book, unfortunately now its out of print, however, if you should find a copy, it would be worth your while to pick it up. I am also assuming you are somewhat familiar with John Lilly, either through Professor Leary or Robert Anton Wilson, in which it will not be a waste of a purchase.

True crimes and imaginary heroes
How much of what you choose to do and say is influenced by your interior life? Most of us smuggle the contraband of our dreams in our pockets, existing part-time in an isolating underground that no one ever sees, as do the characters in _High Times in Fabulous Toledo_.

Lily James' people live parallel lives that only intersect when a ludicrously botched kidnapping forces them to confront the glaring difference between what they have imagined their lives and themselves to be, and who they really are.

This story is a hilariously tragic fable that pierces the truth of our fantasy lives. Lily James shows us how our imaginary identities both shape our authentic selves, and isolate us from one another. A fast, funny romp that left me hoping for more from this young and brilliant author.

An original writing style; very compelling and readable, FUN
"High Drama in Fabulous Toledo" is a funny, readable, delightful novel from an author I will be watching. If you like women's fiction but long for something truly original and fresh, THIS IS IT. Her writing style just carries you along - it's a compelling and new way of getting to know a character - which makes it one of those books you can't wait to get back to. Adventure and philosophy, sociology and brain studies fans will find much to think about here, all in the form of an entertaining read.

Brilliance in motion!
I want Lily James to write about my kidnapping! ... or at least about my hometown!
This is one quirky tale about a kidnapping gone very wrong. Two parts love, one part terror, added to a heavy dose of comedic BRILLIANCE and you've got a book you'll want to read again and again.
Lily James' ability to crawl beneath the skin of her characters and drag you along with her is uncanny and terrific - not to mention terrifying and exhilerating.
This is a Hal Hartley film waiting to be made. Hear that HAL HARTLEY?? You need to make this movie!!
This and _The Great Taste of Straight People_ make me a permanent member of the Lily James fan club.

Amazing collection of short stories
"Vivid. Evocative. Bruce Holland Rogers' writing jumps right off the page." -Wil McCarthy, author of Bloom

"Bruce Holland Rogers stories are like the glimpses you catch out of the corner of your eye. They are full of the logic of dreams, and the logic of the heart." -Maureen F. McHugh, author of Mission Child

"I admire Bruce Holland Rogers and his writing for their seriousness, their onesty and their style." -Valerie Freireich, author of Becoming Human

From dark fairy tales to creepy science fiction to a theological mystery set in the Old West, the mind of Bruce Holland Rogers takes you to territories of the bizarre: Wall Street, Suburbia, and Mexico. In the Nebula Award-nominated story "These Shoes Strangers Have Died Of," a World War II veteran confronts the perpetrators and victims of genocide, and the would-be perpetrators, through his art. The title story, "Wind Over Heaven," exposes the weird underside of the upscale restaurant business. And the 1998 Bram Stoker Award-winner "The Dead Boy at Your Window" (which also won a Pushcart Prize for literary fiction) takes readers on a journey to the land of the dead like no other.

Intelligent and dark
I've heard it argued that horror is an emotion, not a genre, and Bruce Holland Rogers has demonstrated this well in his collection of dark stories. The stories range from a western to a fable to science fiction, but all are intelligent tales with dark themes, including redemption and revenge, and settings ranging from the land of the dead to an alternate Aztec-like Mexico. I recommend this book.

Great!!
I loved this book, the only problem is that there hasn't been any sequels!!! I read this book when it was first published (several years ago I can tell you!) and I loved it! I've been looking for these last years for the sequels and I can't find em! (I have the 2nd one) But this is a great read.

LIly - The Secret Money
I to have read the first two Lily Adventures books and believe that they are even better then the Mandie series. I really enjoyed them and am really disappointed that I can't find the next few books in the series, for the first two left you hanging off a very high cliff! Please if you read this Lois Leppard, please finish the end of the mystery, I would really like to know how it ends.

This book is so good!
This book is a very good book. I would recomend it to everybody. The only problem is it is hard to find the 3rd and 4th book

If you happen to come across this book at its given price....DON'T THINK TWICE!!! BUY IT!!! It really is too bad that it is not out of print because it really is a wonderful book. You couldn't do anything but benefit from it's pages.

Sunday Best Baking is M-m-m good!
From Tennessee's premier milling company, this book combines the best of yesterday and today. Belinda Ellis Gibson has shown that in her first venture as a food stylist and author she has what it takes to allow the conumer to visualize and almost smell the biscuits baking.

This book is a must for any proud Southerner!

Delicious easy recipes! It is like having a bakery at home.
This is a collection of recipes from the famous Southern flour, White Lily. The tips and recipes are the most requested from generations of Southern bakers. These favorites have been updated so they are quick and easy to prepare.

The black walnut cake is the easist I have ever baked, and has a wonderful flavor. Rich without being too sweet.

An excellent glimpse of life during the Civil War.
With its well-written introduction, this marvelous book is a great way to read about one aspect of life during the American Civil War.

These recipes are taken verbatim from a magazine that was fairly widely read by the ladies of the North and South. They are all dated with the year they were published, in some cases more than once. There's a glossary and notes to help you read the somewhat antique language. There's also a wonderful reference list, with lots of titles for the Civil War historian to look for.

I wanted this book because I love being in the kitchen. I also wanted to improve my knowledge of history, as seen through the eyes of the wives, mothers and daughters. As a genealogist, this book enhances what little I know about my female Civil War ancestors. As an added bonus, many of these recipes sound recreateable in the modern kitchen! This is a great read, even if you're not a cook.

Fascinating reading. Not just a cook book but history too!
Interesting history on the diets of the Civil War soldiers as well as authentic recipes from the home front. Many are the basis of our recipes today. I had a lot of fun trying some of them and they were delicious. The historical section at the beginning was well researched and very interesting reading.

Interesting. Well researched & well written.
I have an interest in civil war history since my grandfather fought in the civil war (union side). This book was well researched and well written. It adds a new perspective to the times.

This is required reading before making a will or trust
As an attorney, I recommend that all clients read and consider the information in Mr. Lilly's book before they finalize an Estate Plan. The book is well written in everyday language so all can easily understand.

This is an easy-to-read book on estate planning.
I have not found a better estate planning book on the market as informative or as easy to read than this one. It is humorous, full of information and a lot of fun to read. Highly recommended.

Easy-to-understand book about estate planning. I loved it!
This book has very simple descriptions about every aspect of estate planning. It is very easy to read and understand. And it provides a comprehensive outline of all the ways you can eliminate death taxes. I liked the simple graphics and pictures that made the descriptions easier to understand. A must for anyone interested in avoiding death taxes and probate.

Share The Fun
I really didn't have much interest in beavers, but when I was given this book, Lily Pond, I decided to go ahead and read it. I finished it in 2 days, it was phenominal. The way she talked about the beavers was like a sitcom, but at the same time you learned so much. I didn't have to force myself to concentrate, like I normally do with text books, for one second, but the abundance of information I got from this book never fails to amaze me. I have to give Hope Ryden 2 thumbs up for this book. It's one you can't put down no matter how hard you try. I was really sad when it was over.

One of My All-Time Favorite Books
This is a wonderful book by a wonderful naturalist. Follow a beaver family through seasons of plenty and hardship. Ryden weaves a delightful and moving tale while at the same time maintaining her integrity as a keen observer of animal behavior.

Heart rendering look into the world of the Beaver.
An insightful look into the saga of a Beaver family. The lives of this Beaver family comes alive through the eyes of author Hope Ryden. You'll begin to feel you're right there with her as she studies this Beaver family over the course of four years painstaking work. Ms. Ryden does an excellent job of conveying what this family of Beavers is up to and you learn an outstanding amount of information about the natural history of Beavers. You become both attached to Ms. Ryden and the family of beavers, feeling both her joy and pain as you see their lives progress before you. I even shed some tears..it was that good. Thanks Ms. Ryden, for an outstanding piece of nature writing

From an Avid Reader
I thought this was an excellent novel. The detail in the book made the images come alive in my mind, and the characters were well fleshed out. They were the kind of people that are actually walking around, far from perfect yet incredibly compelling. They were just far enough away from the fairy tale story that one minute I would side with one, then the next, I would be behind another. I found myself rooting for everyone, even when I knew perhaps there was no way everyone could come out on top, especially with all the love triangles. I would reccomend this because I think it reminds us that sometimes we think we know our own hearts, and others hearts, but really, we just need to keep searching, and listening to what really is going on inside of ourselves. Anyone that has been in love, been out of love, been lonely, been scared, been through that soul searching kind of moment will be able to identify with these characters and this story.

Wonderful
This book is for anyone who is looking for intrigue and surprise, but most of all, if you're looking to do a little soul searching, this is for you too! While not classified as a mystery or suspenseful novel, The Red Woman and Water Lilies sure will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Happiness Can Sometimes Be Found Right in Front of You
This novel is packed with vivid descriptions of life as it was during one of the most exciting times in American history. Each word appears to be selected carefully to allow the reader to imagine that they are actually there at that time, with that person. If you have time to read the book slowly, you can savor each phrase. The book keeps you interested in finding out more about each character and what will happen next. It is a book to be enjoyed by the reader. When you read this book(and you should), it makes you feel good about how good life can be if you follow your heart. The author has a deep insight into people. This is her first published novel, however, there are more on the way. I shall look forward to reading more of these works in the future.

Smooth¿.
This is a story about a woman's routine life turned upside down by the appearance of an ex-con, and an old boyfriend. The reader is smoothly transported into her world, and gets comfortable with the characters like the satisfying pleasure of settling into your favorite easy chair. Smooth is the feeling you have, and it is very enjoyable. But don't get too comfortable. Treachery, greed, deceit, and murder are just a few of the things that await you. The book has very likeable and believable characters, and a fast moving storyline that makes this a delight to read. Don't let its poetic, feminine title fool you. This is a book with guts... and twists... and a punch that is excitingly executed.

Intriguing!
Take the proverbial small town, single, vulnerable librarian who takes care of her manipulative mother, put her into the midst of a scheme of the deceitful charmer who had captured her heart many years ago, and you will have a story you won't want to end. Mary Erickson has crafted a novel that does just that. Her descriptions take readers right into the small town atmosphere and into the lives of the characters in this story of suspense, romance and murder. Great job, Mary

...

Enthralling
Author Mary Erickson has captured the essence of a small town filled with deep dark secrets. Lies and deceit capture Lori tossing her into a darkened nightmarish abyss. "Ten Times Have the Lilies Blown" is Ms. Erickson's first novel and it appears she is on her way to becoming a well known author. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast paced thriller.
