A Story of Bravery
This book was about the brave life of a french peasant Joan d'(of) Arc. The story explains how the voices of god (angels and saints) told her that she was the one who needed to save France. Knowing that the king of France would not take a women seriously much less a peasant Joan cleverly disguised herself as a male and goes to confront the king. Impressed with Joan he gave her an army and a horse and told her to defend her country against England. Joan bravely led her troops in the name of god and his messenger. Soon after her charge on the English Joan was captured and put on trial for her charades and was sentenced to death by burning on the stakes. No one took this women seriously, much less believe that she had been chosen by god to fight for his message. After her death Joan was deemed a saint and forever known as the brave Saint Joan d' Arc.
I like the authors way of simply telling the story. The pictures in the book vividly displayed emotion and showed the trial wonderfully. Depicting the judges anger, the juries humor and Joan's undying passion and courage. The author shared with the readers the courage Joan had. Inviting the readers to fight for what they believe in and never give up on their values no matter what. A wonderful story of bravery and courage.

Illustrations that beautifully bring the story home!
I was impressed with the look of this book as much as with the content. Both the author and the illustrator have created a lovely retelling of the story of Joan! And when my, then 6 year old, daughter brought it home from her school library, I could see her spark of interest in St. Joan coming to life. One year later, she brought up the notion of finding this book again. She hadn't seen it since the one time she had checked it out at school, last year. That is what convinced me to purchase it for our home library. It trully is a book you'll want to read and look at over and over!

An interesting true story.
I liked this book very much. It made me feel good to read about how she became a christian. I also realized how tough it was to live in that time. Lillian Fisher is a very talented writer.I would definetely recommend this book.

A touching true story.
This is a moving true story of a young girl whose father was a Mohawk chief, and whose mother was an Algonquin Christian. When Tekakwitha is only four years old, she looses both parents and her little brother to Smallpox. Although, she survives, Tekakwitha's face remains badly scared and her eyesight dim. But as her aunt tells her, her soul is beautiful. More than anything Tekakwitha wants to know the one true God that her mother spoke of and spends her brief lifetime facing adversity, self denial, and even torture to obtain that goal. Yet, it is not a depressing story, but rather uplifting, inspiring and warm. It is written with brilliant descriptions and details that transport the reader to another time and place, another culture, and into the life of an extraordinary young woman.

Concide and readable
LILIES A guide for growers and collectors An authoritative guide with extensive information on propagation and hybridisation.Features species lilies and current hybrids. Written by Edward Austin McRae of Oregon Bulb Farms fame. Not too 'heavy', very readable and very concise, I thoroughly enjoyed it! ISBN 0 88192-410-5 $34.95 / Timber Press

The lily hybridizer's Bible
This book is an incredible resource for those wishing to try their hand at lily hybridization. A word of warning though, it really is not written for the layperson. While you do not have to have a Ph.d. in botany to understand the contents, those with a fair amount of horticultural experience will benefit the most. The book is clearly and concisely written, and is also organized nicely. The photos are beautiful and the line drawings are very helpful. It is the most in-depth discussion of lilies I have ever encountered, written by one of the world's experts in the field. I hope others will enjoy it as much as I have.

Funny book, great pictures, and monsters to boot
This book is now one of my two and a half year old's favorites. Lily is having a pleasant walk home, but her dog is not - around every corner he sees the monsters. My daughter and I have a name for every monster in the book - the water monster, the garbage monster, etc. Great for dealing with the stage she is at right now with the monsters under the dining room table!

Plus, the illustrations in the book are georgeous!

Great treatment of childhood fears
Beautifully illustrated for the 3-to-6 years crowd. A great turnaround story. The child does the confident walking while the dog does the imagining and worrying with lots of subtle and obvious humour along the way. This was read by an enthusiastic wannabe reader over and over and over with smiles and giggles. What a treat!

I was sorry to see the book end!
Kimberly Ripley did a wonderful job in "Lily's Gift." I found myself getting involved in Lily's life. The sadness of having no father image in her life with an indifferent mother caused her to need her"Gram" even more. I was caught up in Lily's life, especially the teaching from her"Gram." I was sorry to have the book end! Am looking forward to the next edition. Datha Beck Darby

Lily's Gift IS A Gift!
What a heartwarming tale of Lily and her beloved grandmother. A look back into my own childhood couldn't have been more poignant. In today's literature with "perfect" families, Lily's Gift portrays one that's not so perfect, but far more real. Lily lives with a cold and distant mother. Once her grandmother---and truest friend---passes away, eleven-year old Lily Randall is forced to confront some of life's harsh realities on her own. She succeeds, with the help of her friend Gil, and the precious memories of her grandmother.

This is a tale meant for young adults---probably ages 10-12, but as an adult in my 30's---I treasured this tale!

romance that keeps you guessing
brought this one on vacation for some light reading and couldn't put it down - just had to know what would happen next. mystery, romance, family & betrayal - a great read.

A true contender for Cinderella's fairytale...
"Lily Josephine" is a dazzling and beautiful piece of work, delicately woven together by the brilliant story teller that Kate Saunders is.

As transfixing as she sounds, Lily Josephine was named after the story of Joseph in the Bible and the faces of the Lilies on the River Nile that would turn their faces up to Joseph as if he were the sun... Centralising around this intoxicating character forms a story of the lives Lily-Jospehine affected when she was alive and the generations she continued to influence long after her untimely death. I loved this story; for the passion it stirred in me, the betrayal it cast upon me, the anger it found in me and the wonder it awoke in me. In every quite minute I could find, I dove into the pages of Kate Saunders masterpiece and lost myself in Lily's world of love and intrigue.

This book is a rare find...a sweeping tale of passion, betrayal, destiny and what becomes of those who truly do follow their hearts. An enthralling read for a quiet day, a most loyal companion to your cup of something and a saga that will most certainly leave your mind and heart aching for more.

As I said, it really is a contender for Cinderella's fairytale...

Good Book!
This book was really good. I think that most poeple in our grade enjoyed this book, because it is intersesting. It is a good book to read over the summer. I would not recomened this book for younger kids, because they would probaly not understand it. But overall, it is a really good book!

Watsons Go to Birmingham
This is an excellent book that brings readers to the center of the civil rights movement. We see the struggle and fear through the eyes of a ten year old. What he thinks will be a boring family trip to see his grandmother turns out to be a chapter in the history of a people and a nation. This book is an excellent way to introduce the civil rights movement to a young reader. Curtis tells the story as if he was there in Birmingham during the church bombing. We realilze that the civil rights movement and the acts that tried to stop it affected not only adults, but young children as well. Young teens can compare there struggles to understand today's world to Kenny's struggle to understand his world and his place in it.

A Book that can change your life!
Lily has accomplished something that no one has done. She brought the 1500 year old Chinese divination methodology to the twentieth century English World. This methodology is well known in many parts of China. But it has never had a holding anywhere else. It is amazing and in some senses freightening to realize how much of a person's life can be learned just by knowing the date of birth. I have known people with great wealth, fabulous fame and who have died a premature death. In one way or the other, they showed up in Meng by using Lily's methodology. The book is very well done. However, it will help if a kit can be included that all the diagrams and charts can be together. I copied them with my scanner and assembled them into a kit. But it would nicer if it was a part of the book. I recommend this book highly to those who wish to have a better understand of life and human nature.

Life dynamics as biomes...
I purchased a copy of "The Path to Good Fortune" a couple of months ago. I read it avidly, found it engaging, interesting and intensly practical. Lily Chung teaches the reader an essential concept to understanding Chinese metaphysics: To understand complex data as a whole unit, in this case, very much like a biome. What this gives to the reader is mental picture of the dynamics of any life situation that is a complete, interactive, and living entity. Although this is a metaphor, converting life's dynamics in this way makes them very clearly understood. If the book had only assisted me in this way, it was more than worth the investment.
