A wonderful look at Elizabethian Drama
This a very good book to own if you are interested in either depictions of women in drama or simply non-Shakespearian Elizabethian drama. "Arden of Faversham" and "The Roaring Girl" are both excellent examples of the genre. "Arden" is based on the true story of man murdered by his wife and her lover. There are both comic and tragic elements. You will laugh at the exploits of Black Will and Shakebag. "The Roaring Girl" should be required reading for all women's studies classes. The heroine, Moll, dresses in men's clothes, yet is in many ways the most traditonal and moral character. She believes in marrying for love, and men doing their male duties, not gallivanting about in pursuit of pleasure. Don't be concerned about the difficulties of the language; the notes are excellent, and the spellings have been updated.

Refreshing verses give insight into life in south India
A Poem at the Right Moment offers a rare chance to take an inside look at culture in south India. The poems are a snapshot of an evolving verbal form of verse called catus. The verses are known and recited with personal modifications by many literate people in south India. They may mention well known poets, such as Kalidasa, but don't necessarily refer to the actual person. Kalidasa may be incanted in a modern setting, or be conversing with another poet from a different time period. Poetry and poets from former times are reinterpreted in the context of today's world in south India, in a form I found very refreshing.

Shakespeare's Poetry
This book is fantastic! You get Venus and Adonis (erotic love poem), Rape of Lucrece (roman rape poem), Lover's Complaint (about the dangers of Love), Phoenix and the Turtle (symbolic of Love and Faith), and of course 154 lovely SONNETS.

David Bevington's introductions are short and informative; the footnotes are there for guidance and do not interfere with the text. A wonderful text. Buy it and take it to the beach.

A truly inspiring collection.
Based on the model of the ancient Celts, David Adam's Power Lines provides contemporary prayers that convert common features of the workday into opportunities for prayer. Power Lines incudes prayers for the various times of the day, as well as for emotional responses to work. Of particular interest is the chapter devoted to those who live and work in cities. A Voice in the Night: Father Almighty, Lord of all,/Hear your loved one when I call.//Jesus all loving, Savior of all,/Hear your loved one when I call.//Spirit all Powerful, guide of all,/Hear your loved one when I call./Trinity all blessed, ruler of all,/Hear your loved one when I call.

A cynical view of the world of modern journalism
Although littered with 80's references which may trip up the reader at first, Pravda is the tale of an honest journalist who see's his profession debased through the growth of tabloids, the sensational shocking headlines and the British public's lust for sex, royalty and nationalism. Into this arena walks La Roux, cunning, devious and calculating, a very thinly veiled Murdoch his personality turns everyone towards him, controlling the worlds of royalty, sports, politics and at the end the world of journalism, forcing even the "hero" of the book to give up his honest journalistic instincts and start calling for smut.

Maintaining relationships by praying together
Consider for a moment how well other areas of your home function during those times when you and your spouse are struggling with your relationship. I know only too well from experience that our personal relationships with God, our children, and even others, consequently suffer when our marriage is not what God intends it to be.

From a mom's perspective, I know how conflict within the marriage drains energy, hinders concentration and impedes motivation. When we have not confessed and repented of sins in our relationship, we are not able to pray as we ought and our family is not protected with the prayer covering that is so needed. My husband and I have found that when we regularly maintain relationships, we experience far less conflict.

We received this lovely little book as an anniversary gift from a dear older woman God has placed in my life. My husband began reading this to me at night before we dropped off to sleep. The chapters are short and manageable for two very tired bodies. They serve as a springboard for constructive conversation with each other and God, helping us focus on what God says is important and agree with God in prayer. This book simplifies the process by using key passages applicable within the context of the marriage relationship. However, the same concept may be achieved by reading God's Word together as a couple and conversing God's truth with each other and God.

John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him. Matthew18:19-20 "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
