Fabulous
I was trying to do a project for Global Studies when I came across this book at my library. I had to interpret 30 lines from a religious book. This book goes through famous religious stories and interprets them for you. Right before every fantasic story you will find an easier understanding of them. Its very good, I think I'm buying it

Anacreon makes it more than worthwile.
Anacreon lived in the sixth century B.C. His poems are about wine, love and getting old. They are easy to read thanks to his humour, vivid expressions and originality. For hundreds of years after the dead of Anacreon there were a lot of anonymous imitators who wrote poems called the Anacreontea. They also had a lot of success in their time.
One of the best poems of Anacreon tells how one night, when a storm raged outside, Eros knocks at the door of Anacreon, saying he's only a poor child lost in the tempest. Anacreon who feels pity for Eros, lets him in. They sit down at the fireplace. After a while Eros feels better again, takes his bow-saying he wants to check it-and shoots an arrow in the hart of Anacreon. Eros laughs and says: have courage! My bow is fine but I fear you will be in love again soon!
It would be more than worthwile to buy this book only for Anacreon and the Anacreontea.

Highly recommended
This is another standard work in the field of medieval literature. It provides an excellent, general overview, but is most valuable because of its extensive, annotated bibliographies of the Old and Middle English Periods. The bibliographies were prepared by Stanley B. Greenfield--enough said! If you don't know Greenfield and are interested in Anglo-Saxon literature, immediately buy the following (to keep by your side and to treasure): A New Critical History of Old English Literature by Stanley B. Greenfield and Daniel G. Calder.

Hamlet One Voice
Published in Audio Cassette by One Voice Recordings (01 January, 1999)
Authors: William Shakespeare and David Ian Davies
Amazon base price: $6.95

Hamlet One Voice
The experienced actor David I. Davies gives readings of 30 soliloquies and scenes from Shakespeare's "Hamlet." Travis Dickerson's resonant music enhances the dramatizations. In addition to all of Hamlet's major soliloquies, Davies does a variety of scenes following the story line of the play and the cast of significant characters. Besides Hamlet, there's Horatio, Polonius, Claudius, and Ophelia. With the sharp expressiveness of Davies' readings, the listener can easily follow the development of the play and the inter-action of the characters.

Davies gives a reading which is true to the original language, yet modern in tone and enunciation. Though the readings are faithful to Shakespeare's language, Davies' pacing and pitch is modern-so the listener follows the dialog as easily as if he or she were listening to persons talking on a TV program, for example. The high technical quality of the recording and the tape also contributes to the favorable listening experience. Because Davies' readings make the play so accessible, "Hamlet One Voice" could be used for classroom or individual student study of the play; although anyone interested in the play or exceptionally controlled and elucidating readings of literature would find this work rewarding.

Great Writing Book
This is one of the most clearly written book about writing I have come across.

It starts off with clear guidelines on good writing and then further elaborates into various writing formats, like letter, memo etc.

It has even included a chapter on common grammar mistake. Very comprehansive and useful. highly recommended.

A unique children's book with playful photographs
This is not just an ordinary children's book from this Pulitzer Prize winning author. It's Updike's fifth children's book. I think it is his best. A delightful alphabet celebrates everyday objects children know and love. In this father and son collaboration, renowned author John Updike's cheery poems and David Updike's direct, playful photographs provide a guide not only to the alphabet but to the charms of the world around us.

The action color photographs are supherb, some of them depicting Updike's grandchildren and Updike himself is pictured on Y for YOU along with all his grandchildren on one page. Twenty-six stunning pictures and poems you have to read and savor: apple, bird, cat, dog, egg, flowers, garbage can, hubcaps, icicles, jam, knot, lamp, mirror, nickel, oatmeal, pie plate, Q-tip, rabbit, shoes and socks, toy, umbrella, vacuum cleaner, window, xylophone, you, and zero. Ordinary words perhaps but the poems and photographs are not! A must read for ages 4-8 but also for the child in all of us.

The best book on the subject yet written--mandatory reading
David Pirie argues that the Gothic horror tale is Great Britain's most unique contribution to literature and that the British horror films produced after World War II, chiefly by the legendary "Studio That Dripped Blood," Hammer Films Ltd., represent the greatest flowering of creativity in the history of British cinema. A well written, profusely illustrated and thoughtful book, "A Heritage of Horror" includes an excellent filmography. Although out of date and deserving of revision, the book remains mandatory reading for both scholarly and lay students of the horror genr
