Phenomenal Reading!
I had to purchase this book for my english course, but after only two weeks of reading and discussion I feel such an empowerment by the selections. I wouldn't be able to choose a favorite author because each one is represented so uniquely by their stories. After my class is over, I look forward to sitting down and reading those that were not assigned and re-reading those icons of society that were picked by my professor. If you want a short introduction to various famous authors then this is definitely a book you will enjoy!

Premiership soccer in England - for the good of the game?

If you want a critical insight into the workings of the English Premier League then this is the book you've been waiting for.

Mr. Conn takes a very detailed and pragmatic look at the development of the business of English football today. The message being that it is money that counts, the fans and the game in general those who are paying the price.

This book is very well written and enjoyable to read. You don't have to have any previous knowledge of the players in this game of money-making. David Conn introduces you to them very effectively.

The book does not only cover the current situation of The Premier League. The reader also receives a history of the development of football in England over the last century as well as colourful descriptions of some of the top football clubs in the world.

It is obvious that this book was written by a person who loves the game of football who bemoans the fact that it has been taken over by people who's main interest lies in the bank rather than on the playing field.

I highly recommend this book, not only for followers of English football but for anyone who takes an interest in professional sports world wide.

These great stories...
...convinced me that horror fiction wasn't just a "slum" genre, that it was in fact home to some of the best writing ever set to paper. Elisabeth Engstrom's "When Darkness Loves Us" changed my perception of the short story. In just a few pages she makes a more profound impact on the emotions of the reader than most 500-page novels. This book is a startling demonstration of craft and fine storytelling.

Four Comedies
This book contains the four "best" comedies of Shakespeare, along with an excellent foreword by Joseph Papp. For each play, it contains a very well written introduction (one that is not only on the play, but links each of them together), Shakespeare's original source material (example: "A Merry Jest of a Shrewd and Curst Wife Lapped in Morel's Skin" for "the Taming of the Shrew"), and well commented textual notes. I found this collection particularly useful for an "upper-level" look at these four plays.

New to the State of California?
Being recent transplants to California, my husband and I have been checking out all the nooks and crannies that make California unique. With the printing of this book, we are reminded there is so much more to see and to learn. From Alcatraz to Yosemite, there are adventures abounding. The illustrations for this book are beautiful, and invite you to be a part of goldmining or the California labs of Silicon Valley. Teachers would do well to introduce this book to their students, in and out of California. Parents would allow their children's horizons to be expanded, if only by introducing this book to them. This will be a favorite of mine for years to come.

All is not lost....
This work is of monumental significance in shaping our perception that reclaiming our heritage is not limited to sterile buildings but living things as well.

While world attention is rightfully focused on preserving intact the rain forest, this work demonstrates that we need to reclaim those centuries old living islands that have somehow persevered and relay to us today, the vivacious aspirations of their creators.

This is not just a book about a garden but about the people who made it and the people who rediscovered and rescued it.

I eagerly look forward to the author's next endeavor in this area. It is a rare individual who is able to pull together all the disparate disciplines such a work entails, and to present them in such a thoroughly enjoyable manner.

This book goes hand in hand with the "Lost Country Life" by Dorothy Hartley.

Amazing short stories
Bunin is one of the most brilliant Russian writers of the early 20th century. His short stories express more in a couple of pages than most novels do in hundreds. It is poetry in prose.

GREAT!
I think this book is GREAT! It teaches teens about life and just how hard it really can be. I think if you have a teen or even a pre-teen that you should at least think about buying them this book.
