A very funny book.
When old Lady Prune invites Mr. Potato Head over for dinner, she decides to send him to the store for the groceries. When he loses the list, he decides to rely on his memory for the purchases. Hilarity follows when Mr. Potato Head's memory fails him miserably.

My 7 year-old son loved the colorful pictures in this book, and laughed his way through the story. I have no idea if this story has a moral (if so, it slipped past me), but it is a very entertaining book for children. I always like books that my son wants to reread, and this is one of them.

Bible Facts are right on!!
I found this book at a book fair at the school I work at. I bought it without looking through it thoroughly, but I really liked the title and the pictures. To my surprise, my husband and I LOVE it. It is a GREAT book for kids to learn the important and TRUE principles, festivals, and traditions in the Bible. Furthermore, we were shocked to find that it stated the TRUE day of the Sabbath rather than the more popularly observed day. God bless Anne Adams for authoring such a great book.

Political, social and natural history blend
Rick Bass' New Wolves (1-58574-265-1, $14.95) charts the return of the Mexican Wolf to the American Southwest and the controversies surrounding its preservation. Political, social and natural history blend in essays which survey the wolves and provide first-person observations. A recommended pick for any who love animals and natural history.

I was skeptical until I had used it a few times . . .
If you think your memory serves you well on the courses you play regularly, you're in for a surprise. When I first saw a friend of mine using one of these I kidded him about getting old and losing his memory. He told me a pro recommended it for "fine-tuning" your club selection and that it had taken a couple of strokes off his game on the courses he played regularly (when you're a low-handicapper like him you're looking for all kinds of edges).

I wasn't convinced, but for less than $10 I also didn't think I had anything to lose. Now I wish I had picked one up a long time ago - I'm going to need another one soon, because I fill it out religiously and even keep a photocopy in the office in case I lose it or my bag gets stolen.

It's like having a caddy that has seen every shot you've ever made on every hole standing with you as you look at the bag and start thinking how you're going to swing the club. Sure, there are guys who look at me like I'm waaayyy tooooo serious about the game when I pull it out, but if the game's close, tough.

It also proves how selective your memory can be if you play a lot. A couple of times I've argued with myself about what's in the book versus what my gut tells me I ought to do. But if I'm standing in a sort-of familiar spot and 60% of the time I've made the green in two by using a 5 iron and 40% of the time I didn't because I used more stroke on a 7, well, you figure it out. It's not always dramatic, but statistics don't often lie if you're honest about what you put down.

I also used it to have a pro help me with some trouble-spots, shots that I sort-of knew I needed to learn how to make. They showed up in the numbers after a few weeks. He could tell I was struggling in a few positions on a couple of holes - I was trying too many different clubs and strokes to get over hazards.

Now if we can just get this in a PDA somehow!

Great beginner biography
The entire "A picture book of..." biography series byDavid Adler is outstanding. Perfect for lower elementary studentsdoing their first real report. Makes a great read-aloud for non-readers as they are easily completed in one sitting. The cute cartoon-like pictures are kid friendly. But most importantly, they are loaded with information including a timeline of important events.

Excellent Resource!!!!
As a high school science teacher I found this to be one of the best resources out there. All lessons have excellent research and background so anyone could pick it up and use it in their classroom. The lessons are also interdisciplinary. Each lesson starts out with a quick guideline as to appropriate age level, subjects covered, and materials needed. Some activities are very elementary but I feel that all lessons could be adapted even for high school students. This book also provides the reader with a great list of agencies and other contacts for further information about rain forests. I recommend this book for any educator.
