5th grader, Gonzalo Agurto says, "This is a good book!"
I read Wishbone Riddle of the Wayward Books. Wishbone and his owner Joe Tableot and his friends end up trying to sold a riddle. They ended up solving that the books weren't stolen so the person who broke in didn't go to jail. So, Joe, Wishbone, and their friends got congratulated. As a 5th grader this book was very good because I like to try and solve mysteries as it goes on. By Gonzalo Agurto at Nazareth School

It's a wonerful book.
I think this is the best series for kids and it has a cute dog named WishBone. You have to read it.

Forever Yaak?
One of my experiences as a biologist for the U.S. Forest Service was a brief stint in Libby, Montana where I was a weekend visitor to the remote Yaak Valley championed by resident conservationist Rick Bass. My first pass through the valley was a shock. The sea of clearcuts from past timber sales were clearly alarming, and I vowed to return for further investigation. In 1994 I studied fish populations in the Libby area now, and then, a superfund site at the plywood mill where we installed a fish weir in an attempt locate the last remaining Bull trout, now an endangered species in the Pacific Northwest. The previous year there were two. In 1994 none returned to the Libby trap. Similar conditions exist on the Yaak River, a major tributary to the Kootenai. Though superficially "wild" in outward apearance this is devastated landscape due to economic activity that has ruined the landscape and the citizenry from asbestosis at the other superfund site, a vermiculite mine once operated by W.R. Grace Corporation of "A Civil Action" fame. They are gone now, but so is everything else the area once offered. "We don't mind looking at the clearcuts," my boss a dour wildlife biologist told me. It is a legacy that Mr. Bass will be hard pressed to reverse with the current forest management leadership. But we must try. I stand with him in that battle. The chapter in my book "Against a Strong Current," is called "Three Bull Trout."

Redefining Wilderness
A valuable collection of diverse voices bearing witness to the last of the last: a small but ecologically rich valley in the far northwest corner of Montana. Those familiar with the prolific writings (and rantings) of Yaak resident Rick Bass know that he can come off as a monomaniac, but this anthology proves his passion is grounded and infectious. Great contributions from prominent writers, poets, conservationists, biologists, politicians, and local residents provide a mosaic of visions on the endangered magic that is the Yaak. The primary lesson: the Yaak is a biological, not a recreational wilderness. It is a place that must be saved, not for your next summer vacation, but for the itinerent wolves, the few remaining stands of ancient larch, the inland redband trout, the resident horse loggers, 15 modest-sized 'gardens' of unroaded national forest, and a tiny (perhaps single digit)population of super-survivor grizzly bears.
Once gone, they are gone forever.

Enjoyable read
I strongly recommend this book to people who like poetry, and even to those who don't. Full of great phrases that stick in your head.

An intensely personal style, grace, & storytelling approach
Setting The World In Order is an impressive compendium of poetry showcasing Rick Campbell's intensely personal style, grace, and storytelling approach to the genre. Legend: He came from a land that didn't need words./Fire singed the sky, soot and ash/settled on the tongue. Speech/was furred and superfluous,. He grew older and left, crisscrossed/America, sat silent and stranger/in the loud seats of cars. Salesman/and truck driver wove their special language,/piston-driven to talk and brood./He listened and thought his shadow/saved them from their lost dreams./Throughout his land he became legend./Buck's boy who never talked. No one/at the Legion or VFW; no one/ at the hundred Bohunk and Italian bars;/no one at J&L, Armco, Coppers,/Phoenix Glass, or American Bridge;/no cops; no railroad dicks;/no coaches named Maccalini/ever heard him speak. he saved it./It's for you and you haven't come yet.

A must for wildlife enthusiasts
Running a wildlife safari company in Yellowstone, the wolves that we view have become a major attraction. I have learnt so much from this book that it is now a requirement for all my guides to read it from front to back, so they are totally educated on wolves. Rick McIntyre's A Society of Wolves captures everything you want to learn about wolves, including their behavior, pack structure, and how similar they are to us. This book is a must if you are interested in wolves, wildlife and Yellowstone.

A Must!
Rick McIntyre does us a great service with this book. It is an excellent compilation of written material and photographs that will prove transformational to anyone interested in wildlife. A moving account of day-to-day life in a wolf pack, it also provides an invaluable history of wolf persecution in this country. He also lists excellent resources to contact to learn more about the fate of the wolf and how to become active in their reintroduction. This book answers the questions "Where did all the wolves go?" and "Why do we need them back?" An important and compelling read.

A letter of recommendation for purchase
This book is perfectly targeted for the SE group, which really surprised me because I'm not a big fan of Sybex Books. It can be 'read' instead of 'studied' (for example, on a plane or in a hotel room), and it is totally packed with information targeted directly at SEs (just look at the table of contents, and you'll see what I mean). I sat and read the first chapter and skimmed several others, and I found that each page had three or four great points that we all really need to know. It is clear to me that the authors must come from a consulting background.

The knowledge in this book will help us all to: (a) understand SQL Server technology, (b) appear knowledgeable enough to instill confidence and promote a buying vision, (c) relate to and build rapport with SQL administrators, and (d) actually solve security-, configuration-, and performance-related issues. I'd like to see us buy a copy of this book for each SE.

Excellent book for entry to mid-level MS-SQL7 administrators
This is an excellent book. It clearly explains 'small' things like Error 1205, fill factor, replication server upgrading order, fixing of SPs that modify the system tables after upgrading, the importance of IPC$ as regarding to the client connections, and so on. Last night I was sitting in Barnes & Nobles, juggling all the MS-SQL7 administration books I could find. It is the cheapest, smallest of all (well, '... for Dummies' doesn't really count for my purpose), yet it is the only one that answers all my test questions. In my opinion, the only other way to get a good feeling on SQL7 is to read through all of the Books Online. How you can manage the thousands of pages is one problem though. I wouldn't even I do think I could. I am in the process of upgrading my MCSE to MCSE+I, and I am sure this book is all I need for now. However, here's an advise to my fellow SQL newcomers: I don't think it will really hurt if, in addition, you actually CAN install, upgrade, configure, backup, restore a few SQL7 servers ... AND know NT well. All in all, this is an excellent book for real-life administration and MS certification test.

This is the coolest book if you love Texas!
I just bought this book for one of the young people in my life and I am having a hard time giving it to her as I like it so much! It has really cool facts about Texas! I also like that it mentions the best university in Texas (UT) and not that other school. My only complaint is that it is a little harsh on Houston!

Wish my 7th grade Texas History teacher had this one!!!
With this colorful, clever, and surprisingly informative book, history leaps off the page like a bucking bronco at the Fort Worth Rodeo. Snappy dialogue between the two cartoon characters--Sam and Meredith, your "guides" through this diverse land--cooks up an easily digestible version of Texas history without being dishonest (for example, a few paragraphs are devoted to the haunting legacy of the Native Americans who were here first). This book reads easier than cold lemonade on a sweltering day in August. You (and your kids!) will love it!

BETTER THAN FEAR ITSELF
While I was never a big fan of the HBO cable series - I always felt it was more a star vehicle than a scare vehicle - I did always enjoy the comics it was based on, and with this, the offical history of EC and all their creations, you too will become a fan all over again. This book comes fully equipped and packed with features. It spotlights the history of EC and beyond, background profiles on artists, writers and producers, as well a comprehensive listings of episodes from the HBO series, plus four reprinted classics from the original run (LOWER BERTH/THE THING FROM THE GRAVE/HORROR WE? HOW'S BAYOU? and THE OCTOBER GAME - adapted from a story by Ray Bradbury... who has an interesting history with EC), plus a cover gallery running the gambit of all the EC horror series. This is a must for any fan of the series or collector of comics in general. Very fun, very nice package and very well done. My only complaint is that on occasion the material can read a bit light, but it never bores you... and you learn a thing or two, like: Just who owns all the original art work from MAD #1? To find out - buy and and read inside.

A graphic and grisly archive of the legacy of E.C. Comics
Digby Diehl has dug up enough ghastly art and story lines from the old E.C. vaults to chill even the most die-hard Crypt fans! This book captures the horror and fascination many of us experienced as kids, encountering our first Tales from the Crypt comic. This archive presents a rich visual history of the development of the horror genre in comics, its rise to horrific success, and the devastating blows it was dealt in the 1950s, as comics came under tighter censorship scutiny. It is worth having this book for the collection of cover art alone, but also worth noting is the section on its spinoff into the television series. Anyone who has ever seen the comics, or the shows, will undoubtedly enjoy poring over this collection into the wee hours of the night...

The Wild West meets Toon Town!
Widdermaker is a side splitting, knee slapping ride through the great geographic wonders of the west as Cowpoke Pete pursues the notorious Widdermaker, the meanest orneriest bull you can imagine. The cartoon-like illustrations add a whole nother level of humor to this rompin ride. It's plum full of fun!

A Rip-Snortin' Wild West Adventure
Looking for a picture book you won't mind reading over and over? Here's a lively western tall tale that will have your little buckaroos riding off to dreamland in chaps and ten gallon hats night after night. Pattie Schnetzler's rollicking language and Rick Sealock's energetic illustrations will make this lively story a favorite in libraries and classrooms as well. Teachers will find inspiration for a writing lesson that fits right in with the Western Expansion unit of U.S. history. It's funny. It's lively. It has a hero everyone will love. Widdermaker is a winner!

A beautiful book with beautiful ideas.
Lovely watercolor illustrations compliment the fresh ideas from author Rick Rodgers. Careful, detailed instructions help the even the novice host plan and execute the perfect tea party baby shower. Only downside: food is heavily gourmet, may need to be toned down a bit for those with less adventurous palates. Well worth the price.
