Old Faves All in One Volume!
This is a lovely Christmas collection including popular carols and selections by Dickens, Hans Christian Andersen, L.Frank Baum, Kenneth Graham, Lucretia P. Hale, Clement C. Moore, and Luke, among others. Nowhere have I seen a book with so many of my favorites all together, although, as with most collections there are a few I could live without. While the editor assembled some reputable illustrators of the time (1986,) I would love to see a reprinting with the blander illustrations updated to reflect the multicultural nature of this holiday and our country. Still, on the whole, a good basic compilation of old Christmas standbys.

The Great TV Sitcom Book

Pretty Good
This book talks about sitcoms from 1950 to 1980. 'The Great TV Sitcom Book' goes into detail for the 2 or 3 most popular shows of the season then gives a brief description of some of the less popular. It is well written and informative. Good as a reference but really needs updating.

Good textbook for a beginning typesetter
This was the textbook of choice for my university's QuarkXPress typesetting course. The directions for creating layouts are generally easy to understand. There are sidebars explaining shortcuts and techniques for more efficient use. It is obviously geared toward the beginning typesetter and gives some great suggestions on building a portfolio for that critical first job. On the negative side, there were times when it got a little wordy. One sometimes had to do a lot of reading to find out how to accomplish a simple task. All in all, however, I found this a useful tool in learning the basics of QuarkXPress.

dtracy's Book Review on IYP 3rd Edition
In my own viewing in this book, this is the No. 1 book I ever read because the Skill Level Guide of the Book is For All Internet Users. If I were you, buy this kind of book for just once year. This book is only an edition. According to all my friends, this is the book where you can find anything like a Search Engine of the Internet. (Bored? Try Fun, Still Bored? Try Games)

The Legacy of John Cyclone
I really loved this children's book and so did my children. It is a tender tall tale by a talented young boy about a very large guy with a big heart who spends his time creating mountains and lakes and helping others. The illustrations are beautiful and compliment the story well. We all really loved this book and its message of kindness to others!

Let's Go Teddy Bear: buy before it's out of print
This was by far the favorite book of out first daughter - even from 10 months old.

The combination of vocabulary, touch and feel pop-up devices and the storyline of two best friends, Teddy and Kitty, are better balanced than any book of its kind we've seen.

Although its robustly made with good board construction, it won't last forever! So buy two copies before it's out of print.

Good overview
Gives a good intro to music theory for a beginner. Uses QuickBasic format for programming samples. I would have preferred C++ since it is more standard now. Over all a good beginners book

The New Oxford Book of Victorian Verse
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (August, 1987)
Author: Christopher Ricks
Amazon base price: $35.00
Used price: $4.39
Average review score:

Yes!
By far, one of the best poetry anthologies I own - and well worth the money. What's so wonderful about Ricks' anthology is it's attention to the greats of Victorian poetry, as well as highlighting some lesser-known poets, like Swinburne, Ruskin, John Henry Newman, and the not-so-widely read poetry of Hardy, Dickens, and Clough.

If you're a true fan of this era, you'll appreciate the attention payed to the big greats: Tennyson, Arnold, Hopkins, Browning, and the Rossettis.

I give this four-and-a-half stars, actually. There are no annotations in this anthology, which does make reading some of the poetry a bit difficult, especially for a newcomer to the genre/period.

A valuable resource
A well-written, concise reference covering a diverse range of topics that will be of interest to all who know the frustration of cramming complex OO systems into relational tables.

From a complete design pattern for Object and Object Relational database systems, to design patterns for declarative language symantics; from C++ and Java to SmallTalk bindings; from BNF grammars to compiler models; the book proved invaluable at overcoming the myriad problems presented to the developer implementing an object-relational DMBS.

As a direct result of this reference work I have implemented ORDBMS systems in Java and (can you believe it) JavaScript. The JavaScript implementation provides a complete persistence layer for JavaScript objects running in an ASP environment.

As a result, systems with complex data relationships that would curl the hair on a relational database programmer's head have been implemented simply and with the minimum development time.

I await with anticipation emergence of the JDO from the work of the ODMG.
