Perfect!
This has got to be the best-designed foreign language phrase book/dictionery ever written. Very well organized; shirt-pocket sized; all words spelled phonetically (in addition to their real spelling); an emphasis on real conversational phrases and practical situations that a traveler would actually encounter. I had to laugh out loud when I got to the section that dealt with romance... and also how to DISCOURAGE romantic advances (such as the translation of "I have many diseases"). If you are going to Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, take this along. People may argue about the utility of Mr. Steves' guidebooks, but his phrase book and dictionery is an undeniable winner.

Humor, too.
This is the greatest phrase book I have ever used. It is funny and list phrases people use in real conversation. I honestly didn't have to use mine much because I found most Germans and Swiss eager to practice their English. However, it was a great tool. It is also small in size, which is important if you are trying to travel light!

Keep this book within reach as you travel.
My wife and I recently traveled through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France. I had both the German Phrase book and the French version. They read very easily and consist of enough common phrases to get you by, but not so many that you are overwhelmed or confused. Handy tips and observations are sprinkled throughout the book that make reading it fun and enlightening. I especially liked the United States Map (showing the states and their boundries). I used this to show my hosts where I was from (and to generate some lively discussions). The pronounciation guides for the phrases are very good and can make you easily understood by the natives. If you're planning on traveling in Europe, I strongly recommend that you read and review this book before you go (to get familiar and practice) and take it with you as you travel (for fast reference).

My two-year-old's favorite book
This is my two-year-old's favorite book. She understands the humor of the story: a farmer rocks his baby goodnight, and then rocks each of his farm animals goodnight (including his horse and cow. You'll have to see the book to understand how he is able to rock such large animals). The pictures are wonderful, the words are few. Your child will ask for it again and again.

Lullaby in book form
This is a sweet lttle book for younger children. After you've read it a few times they begin to join in the reading. An easy book for them to memorize. My son always thinks it would be funny if the farmer would rock his wife :)

A lasting favorite for our two small children
Simple text and colorful pictures make it a first rate introduction to reading; both our kids learned how to sit through a bedtime story with this soothing tale of a barnyard evening. We ALL want to know where the mouse went at the end!

World War II: The Rest of the Story and How It Affects You Today: 1930 to September 11, 2001 (Uncle Eric Book)

Everything about WWII that they don't teach you in school
Richard Maybury's book, "World War II: The Rest of the Story" is perhaps the most interesting historical book I have ever read. Maybury takes apart World War II from start to finish and does a superb job in showing all of those things which people simply do not know about the war.

He shows the war in a way in which it is almost never talked about. Fallacies I was taught as a child about the war systematically were shot down as I was reading this book. He does a very good job of relating to the reader. If you have the typical American Education of World War II, like I did, this book is perfect for you.

I highly recommend this book for those who want to know the truth about World War II and how what happened after World War II relates to them today.

Right on Target!
Maybury does an excellent job of telling "the rest of the story". The evils of Joseph Stalin are detailed & U.S. propaganda campaigns are exposed. Every American should read this and ask why in the world our politicians have forever embroiled us in the internal affairs of warring Europe? The foreign policy approaches of George Washington & Thomas Jefferson will hopefully be reconsidered by learned individuals after reading this.

Excellent as usual!
Richard Maybury is a great author! With the companion volume World War I, Maybury will give you a new perspective on wars and history. Filled with facts of interest rarely mentioned elsewhere--P. T. Barnum's source for his sideshow foreigners, the advanced German spearpoint backed by horse drawn carts, the comparison of civilian murders by the Axis versus that of the Allies, the end of the war in the Pacific and the reason for the use of the atomic bomb, the remarkably successful Swiss policy, etc, etc.--"Uncle Eric" writes succinctly and in a way to be understood. Highly, highly recommended!!

We love this book!
I originally got this book because I was looking for [an inexpensive] Italian cookbook. I had low expectations, just wanted a couple of quick recipes. Instead, I got one of the best cookbooks I have ever owned. My wife and I love this book and use it all the time. The recipes are usually very easy, and always delicious. We are constantly amazed at how good the food turns out.

Excellent!
We cook alot of Italian dishes and this book has not failed us yet. Veal Chops Stuffed with Spinich has become our favorite "company dish". When we aren't sure what we want for dinner or if we feel like trying something new, this is the first book we consult.

Warning- this is NOT the book-it's a study guide.
This is a great study guide for the hardcover book. It contains numerous maps, questions, and vocabulary lists, BUT do not order this if you think you've found a much cheaper version of the hardcover-that is not the case.

A Good Book
BY RIGHT OF CONQUEST is a great book. It tells the story of a boy who is shipwrecked on a island where the people think he is a god. When Cortez comes to fight the people of the islands the boy is caught in the fray. This story is a great book full of excitment like in the middle of battles or running away in a boat. Even a point where the boy must escape from being sacrificed. This is a wonderful book which I encourage many to read.

Excellent!
An excellent overview of wildlife of the Northern Minnesota area. There are interesting and informative descriptions of everything from birds to insects to fish. The scope of the book is so broad that only a few of each type of creature can be listed, but he has chosen the ones, such as loons, herons, and otters, that are so special to the North woods. Highly recommended.

This Book Description Leaves A Lot To Be Desired
'Nuff said. The rating-stars do not apply, as I have not seen the book, and am not likely to until I can find out more on its content. *-(

A must for anyone serious about flyfishing!
I just bought this book, and read it straight through. I have also taken it with me--to the river--to use as it was written. The book is well written, and contains most of the general information that flyfishermen need to really enhance their experience. The only thing I would recommend in any subsequent revisions, is the use of color photographs of the insects. Tight Lines!

An excellent resource for the flyfisher
This softcover book not only matches fly patterns to the hatch but also educates the reader to the lifecycles, anatomy, and seasonal hatches of the insects. The illustrations are excellent and even are appealing to those with a biology background. This book single handedly enlightened me (at an age of thirteen) to the art and science of fly fishing. Hence a much greater and in depth appreciation for the craft. The book has sat on my shelf now for many years as a competent reference. I have personally had the opportunity to work with Rick Hafele (author) for a day on a small stream in souther Oregon. I was even more impressed with his keen knowledge and passion for entomology and the art of fly fishing. I highly recommend this book to any one just starting or even better as a a gift to an inquisitive child who will learn much much more than just how to match the hatch. This book will please all audiences though.

Ever laughed at a dark thought? This book's for you!
The line between comedy and tragedy is very thin in Daily Negations. Every day features a new, grim thought to bring you back down to earth if you were feeling a little too good about yourself. But the humor is so raw and edgy--and genuinely funny--that you won't resent it a bit

Great daily remedies for mindless optimism.
Read one of these if you've overdosed on Kathie Lee

Indispensible tool for Macromedia Director users
This book is an indispensible tool for users of Macromedia Director. We found it to be easy to use, clearly written, and a great resource for all those third-party Xtras that extend Director's capabilities. Because this is a 'reference' book, at the office this book is usually hard to find because it makes the rounds so often. (I'd recommend you purchase more than one copy if you are in an office environment.) I think what I like best is that Director users of any experience level can benefit from this book--from novices adding new transitions to experts using the book's extensive Lingo libraries. Good developing!

Solid Information From a Multimedia Veteran
Far too many computer books on the market are written by so-called "computer book authors" who "play" with the software that is the subject of their books. Rich Shupe is not one of those authors. If you wade through this dense resource you quickly realize that the author not only uses the software products covered but is also intimately familiar with them from the perspective of a hardcore developer who has lived and struggled through the multimedia revolution. The knowledge presented in this book is equally matched by the straightforward and easy to understand presentation from the author. If you need to understand Director...and you need to make it work for your clients and your prjects...this is a treasure trove of information. Let's hope that more of the so-called software oriented books can live up to the standard Rich Shupe has set with his Director Xtras book.

A Smorgasbord of Fascinating Articles
This is a really meaty book, with lots and lots of good, solid scholarship. Some of the articles are path-breaking; all are rewarding.

Jackson, Daniel C. Peterson, and Stephen D. Ricks.

Can't ask for authors better than these...

I got it for the article on Leroy Robertson's Oratorio from the Book of Mormon.
