Not about J++ but Java
The title of this book is totally misleading. It should have been named "Teach Yourself Kindergarden Java with Visual J++ 6 in 21 Days". As a book for a beginner with no programming experience it would have served its purpose, but it definitely doesn't teach J++ in the way you would expect. Look at the headings.

About Java
Day 2. Java Language Fundamentals.
Day 3. Making Applets Live on the Web.
Day 5. Windows.
Day 6. Menus.
Day 7. Applet User Interface Controls.
Day 9. Dialogs.
Day 10. Fonts and Text.
Day 11. Drawing.
Day 12. Images.
Day 13. Image Processing.
Day 14. Animation.
Day 15. Exceptions.
Day 16. Mouse Input.
Day 17. Threads.
Day 18. Strings.
Day 19. Stream I/O.

About J++
Day 1. Getting Started: The Visual J++ Environment.
Day 4. Debugging Java Applets and Applications.
Day 8. Application Controls.
Day 20. ActiveX.
Day 21. J/Direct.

Five chapters specifically about J++ and 16 about Kindergarden Java. Look at the dead air in this book Day 6. Menus, Day 7. Applet User Interface Controls, Day 9. Dialogs, Day 10. Fonts and Text, Day 11. Drawing, Day 12. Images, Day 16. Mouse Input.
Day, Day 18. Strings. I want to learn J++ not Java. I would rather recommend Programming Microsoft Visual J++ 6.0 by Stephen Randy Davis, which is the best book I know about J++ or if you are a beginner, Using Visual J++ 6.0 by Scott Mulloy .

Good book for C++ programmers, but not for beginners
If you already have experience in programming with C++, this book is good to learn J++ in relatively short period of time, but if you don't, avoid this book. In my opinion, it's nearly impossible to understand without some knowledge on C++ or J++.

Good Book for Visual Basic/C++ Programmers
As a C++/Visual Basic Programmer, I found this book very handy.

If you do not already understand the fundamentals of OOP (Object Oriented Programming) then you will struggle a little as it does not thoroughly cover:

- Concept of Classes/Objects.
- Constructors.
- Members.

However, if you already understand these concepts (such as I did), then you will fly through this book with little or no trouble.

This book takes you from beginner to an intermediate level whilst covering the following topics:

- Applet & Application development.
- Use of Dialogs & Standard Controls.
- Graphics & Image Processing.
- Multi-threading & Animation.
- Exception handling.
- I/O Streams.

All examples are easily understood and fairly well explained.

Just don't expect to become a professional programmer from reading this book.
You will however be able to move onto a more advance book.

Easy Web Pages (Claris)
The book is a valuable basic primer but could provide some more advanced information. The steps could be more clearly explained. If you need a basic primer, it is worthwhile.

No technical details, bias suggestions, too much text
I am disappointed about this book mainly because (1) there is no technical discussion about the setup of storefront and payment gateway (2) the authors recommend advertiser's services...kind of bias (3) it does not cover all the latest technologies, despite the fact that it's published in Sep 1999! (4) there is too much unnecessary text with repetitive info and most importantly (5) I still don't know how to set up an e-commerce solution on a dedicated hosting platform, after reading this 394 pages book in a week. If you are reading Business 2.0 or Inter@active week already, don't buy this book. However, if you are new to e-com and want to get a quick grasp of the major components, this book may help you.

Corel Paradox 8 for Windows 95: Computer Training Series

Corel Paradox 8 (Computer Training Series)
I tried this book because it was the only one I could find on Paradox 8. The demographic that this book would help are those who have never used Windows 9x before. One entire chapter is devoted to intructions on printing (File, Print), and another chapter walks you through the Start menu to open up Paradox. Very basic material.

For ABSOLUTE - ABSOLUTE - Beginners
If you do not know how to start yur computer, if you do not know how to start an application - any application, if you cannot even get through the tutorials that come with Paradox - perhaps this is for you. This book is basic - very basic. So basic that it makes the tutorials seem advanced. As has been commented by other reviewers, there is real need for Paradox books that go beyond the beginners tutorials - this is not one of them. I would have given this zero stars, but one star is the default. I have purchased thousands of pages of computer books in recent years. This was the worst I have come across. I write my first review out of horror that someone presented this book as useful. "It aint"

Very good for simple, basic information
I think that the biggest problem with this book is its title: the title is somewhat all-encompassing, while the book itself is very basic. I, too, like my fellow-reviewer in Ohio, tried in vain to find Paradox 8 books in the conventional bookstores. If Paradox is what you have, and your knowledge of database management is limited, this will get you going. If you need/want/require information on using Paradox beyond the absolute bare fundamentals, this is not the book for you. (In fact, I wonder if there is one at all.) This is pretty much the book I needed for my purposes (yes, more practice exercises, and more-complicated practice exercises would be nice), and this has been a very helpful purchase for me!

INCOMPLETE!!
Incomplete instructions, mis-information due to not having beenreviewed for accurracy before publishing!! And, I am only on chapter6. This is my first disappointment with a purchase @amazon.com.

a very basic presentation with insufficient detail.
Book has a very basic presentation, and is easy to follow. It was advertized as having 160 pages, but only has 146-including index. It will get you started, but does not even mention statistical procedures such as regression analysis and standard deviation, which are the main strengths and useages of the Quattro Pro Program, as far as I am concerned. Most of what is in the book could easily be gleaned from the "Help" menu. Much of the instruction is common to "Windows 95" methods, so therefore is redundant. This is the first book I will be returning to Amazon for a refund.

Not worth the money
This flimsy 60 page "booklet" is not worth buying. It covers very little related to the title, and I expected more than 60 pages....

An expensive package ...
This package combines three titles from the Charles F. Goldfarb series that have been for sale seperately for some time and are now offered in single box.

Of the three titles, the main interest of the "Cookbook" is its emphasis on internationalization, especially character sets, extensive listings of which are provided. However, these listings are available for free on the Internet in a much more convenient electronic format.

The "Handbook" provides a basic introduction to XML, and then goes on to offer hundreds of pages of paid advertising space to suppliers of XML tools to essentially describe why their products are great.

These three titles do not seem to have been written to complement each other and in fact demonstrate sufficient overlap in content. This, combined with the questionable quality of the individual titles, makes one wonder whose interests are served by this package.
