Breadmaker's guide
I love this book! I have been baking bread for several years, but had never tried the batter breads. I love experimenting with the breads in this book. There are a wide variety of recipes in this book from batter breads to sourdough and artisan breads, along with basic recipes. With good tips and instructions, this would be a good book for a beginner, but also enjoyable for someone who is more experienced. Highly recommended.

Best
This is by far the best little cook book I have ever used, the directions are so easy and she manages to takes the guess work out of bread making. Thomson's has a real nack for making a recipe as simple as possible and has done so in both her books. Once you read the how to pages the time saving at a glance recipes are great. Her first book on soups and quick breads is just as great. I highly recomend both books.

New Edition of a Classic
In 1997 in my review on amazon, I lamented the fact that this book was out of print. However, thanks to the foresight of Author22 Publishers, the book has been returned to the active file. Readers now can find a more readable edition available: print is larger and clearer. The book now resembles what it is: social commentary combined with glorious story-telling, and avoids the misleading cover of old that suggested some soap opera romance. This work is highly recommended to those with an interest in the historical Amerasian children and their sad fate. Buy this book!

A novel misjudged and needing rediscovery
This novel defies categorization, which confounds the marketing people. In its original form, it seemed to have a romance novel cover and appeal. On the contrary, it is in the tradition of Thornbirds or Raj Quartet. This is a tragic story of an ainoko, or Japanese son of an American GI during the U.S. Occupation. A scathing and realistic depiction of America's military presence and its ethnocentricism, it contrasts sharply with the sad life of Heinie, the half-breed who is rejected as well by the purists of the Japanese culture. The work is written by former film star,Jan Merlin, whose face is familiar to movie goers and television fans of the 50s and 60s as one of the most notorious villains. Here he shows why he won an Emmy for his writing for television in 1976. The story contains a harrowing view of Hiroshima after nuclear conflagration and the Japanese theatre world after the war. Like many great epic stories, this one defies a single label. It is for readers to rediscover and to cherish, as they surely will. Highly recommended

Absolutely awesome! Super novel with no bull.
If you liked King Rat, you'll be mesmerized with Cabanatuan. Unbelievable and extremely descriptive.

The truth be told.
If there was a question about whether the Enola Gay should have been displayed in the Smithsonian Institution "Cabanatuan, Murder Under the Sun" answers it nicely. After reading this gut wrenching true story about the mistreatment of our prisoners held by Japan during WWII, I have no compassion for this country. If I remember correctly, they started the bloody fray and we finished it. If you are tired of the white washed politically correct versions of WWII and Japan's treatment of our American Prisoners buy this book.

A Massive Piece of Work
This book is a massive piece of work edited by Anthony Kenney, Jan Pinborg and the late Norman Kretzmann. Moreover, Eleonore Stump is an associate editor of this text as well. The book itself is over 1000 pages. It is a history of late medieval philosophy from about 1100 to 1600. The book is essentially a series of essays that deal with the various philosophical trends, ideas, issues, etc. that were prevalent within the aforementioned dates. The book deals with Aristotelian logic, logic in the middle ages (semantic theory), logic in the high middle ages, metaphysics and epistemology, natural philosophy, philosophy of mind and action, ethics, politics, and scholasticism. Thus, the reader of this text will gain a greater understanding about Abelard and old logic to free will and free choice to God's knowledge of future contingents, and much more. The Islamic philosophers and their influences and ideas are covered as well as the Jesus society philosophers of the late reformation period (i.e. Molina, Suarez, etc.). The text itself is not for the beginning philosophy student, thus the contributors expect their readers to have some back ground knowledge in the issues at hand. This book is meant for the serious student of this period. Therefore, if you love to study the philosophers of the Medieval period, then you will love the detail that this book provides. I highly recommend it.

A Classic for Medievalists
Top medieval scholars edited this collection of essays by other top medieval scholars which brings to light some of the best thought regarding this important, but oft-neglected period in the history of philosophy. While nearly twenty years old, these essays are as enduring as the figures of which they are about. must for any serious student of the scholastic period of medieval philosophy.

A Fun Cat's Tale for Young Readers
My two year old grandson takes great delight in his book collection. He discovered "The Cantaloupe Cat" when he was only 18 months old and it immediately became one of his favorites. It's the first book he hands me to read and he now enjoys sitting on the floor and turning the pages himself. The text is especially child friendly and the illustrations are appealing to grown ups as well. The story of Jerry, the cat who likes cantaloupe, is one children and adults both will have fun sharing.

A book for cat lovers of cats who love cantaloupe
The text is just right for young children and the illustrations are adorable. It reveals a secret for most of the public. Many cats love cantaloupe. Even if yours doesn't, you'll appreciate this book.

Carlos and the squash plant
This book is extremely funny. Most of the children hate to take baths. This book has beautiful colored pages and the Spanish language is clear, fluent and well used. I recommend this book to be use in the classroom for English language learners or for dual inmersion settings.

Carlos hates to take a bath
I am a Kindergarten teacher who has read this book to many classes. They love it! Many little children relate to Carlos and his aversion to baths. I understand there are flaws in the translation, but, as a read aloud for children it scores big.

Long-time friend of the cat with the pot on her head
This is the best book ever written! I am 20 now and still in love with "Bendemolina, Bendemolina, the cat with the pot on her head". This was my ratty dog-eared most favorite book of all time when I was little--it got read every night. It became a part of our family traditions (i.e. anytime I wasn't listening I got called a Bendemolina). By the way, I can't remember if that's how you spell the kitty's name, but that's how it sounds--and wow, that book has great sounds! If you buy this book, I can guarantee that your children will love it. Finding that it is still in print, I'm going to buy it for my boyfriend's two small sons. Yay! More moop on the feep!

Exponentially Increase Your Silliness Quotient:
Hey! Don't blame us for enriching phonemic awareness of pre- and early readers with this hilarious story. That's what's happening at our house because our six year-old wants to hear this story every night. When the eldest of 10 kittens wears a shiny pot as a hat, she has a hard time hearing her mother's instructions. Highly original and nonsensical household chaos ensues. The wacky rhyming text in this inventive plot does not fail to induce uncontrolled giggling. (Our favorite: "Mup the moop on the feep?") Witty illustrations highlight the absurdity of each situation when the cat with the pot on her head repeats what she thought she was told. Depending on your point of view, the moral of the story could either be to always or to never wear a pot on your head!

We listen over and over and over
Someone recommended this to us when my children were 6 and 3; now they are 9 and 6 and decided to listen to it again this week . . . for at least the fifth time. A wonderful deadpan narrator for these extremely funny, extremely strange stories. Even I never tire of them. There is nothing else quite like them.

A Hidden Gem
I picked this audio cassette up at the library for a long car trip last summer. At some point on the journey home it was the only cassette we had not yet listened to, and we popped it in, never having heard of it or the author. It did not take long till the reverent silence in the car confirmed that this was a fabulous collection of stories. My husband and I kept glancing at each other...how had we not heard of these short stories? I know that the children enjoyed them and the parents found them equally delightful! Each one was more wonderful than the last. I am so happy to of found a copy and plan on pressing it on all our friends and relations to borrow, it is a gem.
