Even better than you might expect
Facets of Rural Alaska
This collection of essays are the author's descriptions and reflections on aspects of life in rural Alaska. It's not a story of pioneering or stone age lifestyles, as the title "living among the eskimos" might suggest. Rather, Jans gives a vivid picture of how the lives of rural Alaskans are like a collision of the old and new worlds. It is a world of snowmachines, TV, and basketball, and caribou hunting. Nick Jans lived in the villages of northwest Alaska for decades. The reader benefits from his sense of the most striking or moving experiences he has collected and his perfect, crystal clear prose. I came away with the sense that Jans loves Alaska and when you read the book you can feel it yourself. I also highly..HIGHLY recommend his more recent book that incorporates stunning photography with essays.
Well Done!
A great descreption of what life is like in the Alaskan Bush

Bring this book back into print!
This is the most affectionate writing on Portugal I've encountered in English. Pure pleasure from beginning to end. Note the incisive comparison between Spaniards and the Portuguese. I can tell you it's right on the money. There are things in this book that would escape the notice of a native, so it's a particular treat for Portuguese-Americans.
A great read
I initially read this book because of the author's great bird hunting book, Pheasants of the Mind. I have read 100's of books and it is one of the best explorations of a place and its culture I have seen. I wish I could find others like it.
Two friends find trout, nymphs and adventure in Portugal.
I can't believe this book is out of print! Proper combines three aspects of Portugal to create his richly evocative book: his relationship to the land through trout fishing, his relationships to old and new Portuguese friends, and his sensitive portrayal of the way the past informs modern life in Portugal. You'll smell the fresh bread, frolic with Camoes's nymphs, and feel the sun in the Algarve. A terrific book.

Cairo, a place to experience life. What a place!
I just wanted to say that I grew up in Cairo, graduated from Cairo High so I know the struggles that the people went through. As a matter of fact is it still struggling. I visit my Mom (Jean Vasser) almost every other month and it is so depressing to see the children there having to go through just to survive. There are no jobs, nothing enriching for the children to look forward to and their hope is gone. My own children whom all grew up in Cincinnati does not like going to visit. It depresses them to see what their peers are going through but I can say this, if eyes have not seen, nor ears have heard Cairo, you have not experience what "Let My People Go" are saying. I grew up knowing Preston Ewing and his family along with Rev. Charles Koen whom also has a book out which is awesome. Those two books together will make you appreciate life more. Be blessed my sisters and brothers in Jesus Name!
Living those days when things where racially motivated
I can remember when my family experienced alot of what Preston Ewing discussed in his book. My uncle is one of the protesters in this book(Joe Nelson) My family still reside in this town which has not grown at all. These people are still being deprived of a life of ease and forfillment. I was a little girl attending St.Joseph Catholic School at the time of all this dispare. I hope this book was able to give some of the great citizens of Cairo closure. Thank you (Rochelle (Willis)Wade daughter of Joe Willis and Dorothy Nelson)
VERY GOOD HISTORY ON MY HOMETOWN!
THIS IS A VERY GOOD BOOK DETAILING THE HISTORY OF MY HOMETOWN. IT DETAILS THE STRUGGLES THAT MY MOTHER, AUNT, AND UNCLES HAD TO GO THROUGH. A VERY GOOD FIND FOR CURRENT AND PAST RESIDENTS OF CAIRO.

The one book I always recommend...
This is the one book I continually recommend to couples first dealing with the cancer diagnosis. I have already read it twice and my husband has once (he is the cancer victim) -- and this will not be our last time through it, I'm sure. There is valuable information, lots of help and a large dose of support. The worksheets are good to use or not, your personal preference. I've purchased two additional copies to donate to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute's Community Cancer Research Center. I just can't say enough good about this book!
"Must" reading for any couple confronted with cancer.
Cancer is not a hopeless situation. Working with emotions, attitudes and behaviors, couples can influence the course of the disease and enhance the quality of life for each individual, as well as that of their relationship. Love Is A Journey teaches the reader the eight tools that every couple can use everyday to increase love and vitality in their relationship while facing cancer together; the six stages that couples experience after cancer has been diagnosed; insight into what is happening and what to expect; how other couples have coped successfully; activities to strengthen each individual and the relationship. Love Is A Journey is "must" reading for any couple confronted with cancer.
The best book we've read
My husband and I both found this book to address problems and concerns that we have had since he was diagnosed a few years ago. We have read a lot of about the biological/medical aspects of his illness, but nothing was as helpful as this wonderful book. We are applying the practical advice and coping strategies that we learned from these authors every day. A MUST read for any couple facing the day to day living with cancer or any other chronic illness.

Beautiful book
I really like this book. It has beautiful pictures and it's informative. I never knew there were so many different kinds of embroidery stitches. It will be a great reference guide.
Fantastic book.
I bought this book for all the great photos in it. It is so nice to see the stitches on fabric and in color. This makes it so much easier to use your imagination to create beautiful textiles. The book covers all types of embroidery from pulled fabric stitches to canvas stitches and everything in between. There are very nice diagrams and explanations of all the stitches. It is a very easy and informative book to use for everyone from beginner to experienced embroiderer.I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in this art form.
The best book of stitches for the beginner I have found
I checked this book out of the library like I have a hundred other books on embroidery. Unlike all the others this was so clear and easy to understand I had to buy it. This one actually made sense and I was able to apply all that was in it to a great embroidered jean jacket for my daughter. The illustrations and color coding on the different stitches makes it so easy to follow. I am an avid hand quilter and I have never been "into" embroidery until I used this book. So many books have all these great illustrations but regular people like me can't go from the picture to the fabric. With this book I could and did! I used to just see quilts in every great design and unusual color grouping-now I see embroidery! I highly recommend this.

VERY helpful - On to the next level in MLM!!!
This book is one to take you to the next level in network marketing. WONDERFUL!!!
I Needed THIS book!
I needed this book so much. I have read other books on Network Marketing but it's clear that the author has built a business from the ground up and now I believe I can too. I wanted a book filled with nuts and bolts. I refer to the book every day. Thank you Jan Ruhe for writing this book.
Inspirational, down to earth, how to work MLM & make money
I enjoyed this book because it is easy to read, giving solid advice on how to run a MLM business based on the Author's personal experience. I like the style in which it is written because the Author is very down to earth, has an obvious sense of humour and makes it clear that MLM will not work for you if you do not work for MLM. I also enjoyed the book because the author is a very successful woman who works in the same MLM as I do, which proved to me that this business works. I also admire the candid way in which the Author discusses the obstacles that she had to overcome in order to be successful.

awsome!
Shree miss spiller has done society a great service with this book. My Guru talks a lot about making intentions, putting out the energy for what you want to be or what you want to change. THis book adds a overwhelming aspect to making intentions. THat Is, making them at the best time for getting the energys of the moon and the zodiac and the universe to help you. This is a very powerful combination making wishes on the new moon. The universe is behind you all the way when you do this.It brings the moons energy along with you. There are two things I would recomend though. When I do my wishes I put them in the form of an intention. An intention is more powerful then a wish. Why? An intention is when you put yourself into the wish you are saying clearly this is my intention NOT well this is something I want I hope or WISH it to come true--in other words an intention is more focused and powerful and it has your will behind it instead of just hoping the universe helps you. The second thing I would suggest is to put in a little "if this is ok with you" type of statement mine goes like this--With your grace Gurumayi--then the intention. This way I invoce my Guru's Grace and Shakti. I also start at the top of my wish page with a line like "if any of these wishes are not in tune with the shakti then may the shakti do whats best for me and my sadhana". This way I will not create anymore unwanted karma for myself or go too fast in any area. Of course you can subsitute God,Universe,Jesus for Guru. God bless Jan Spiller! Thank You for this book.
Take Charge- Change your life
This book is a valuable scource of affirmations to change your life. The information about moon nodes provides insight into the way we are wired astrologically. Using the full moon to write down the way we want to change provides a focus and helps us to have faith that change is possible. This has been the greatest year of growth for me
Amazing Accurate!
In my opinion, this is the 2nd best astrology book ever written for those not interested in long and overwhelming charts and complicated descriptions that sometimes tend to ramble, and almost always are very scientifical, and have no..."umph" to them. The first is Jan Spillers other book, Astrology for the soul. Although this book is great, and a cheaper alternative, astrology for the soul seems to have a bit more information. Still, this is great book. It tells you the weakest and best points about your sign, using the North Node astrology (it uses the same astrology signs, but your sign may be different with north nodes than the sign you usually go by -- the sign chart is included in the book). When reading it, I felt as if she was talking specifcally to me, it was almost scary. I'd say it's more accurate than any personal one-on-one tarot or palm reading I've ever recieved. Not only does this book tell you about yourself, it tells you what to do with yourself, it helps you strengthen your weak points and fix your disabbilities. It also includes several different affirmations for your sign, plus a song dedicated to your sign. Make sure to read the descriptions for other signs, as everyone can relate. if even the slightest, to every sign and therefore can benefit from the entire book.
A must read for EVERYONE. Life-changing.

The end of "spiritual Apartheid"
In South Africa there used to be job reservation for whites. In the game of seeking self realization, there seems to have been a myth of "enlightenment reservation"; a myth played out and sustained in the paradigm of "special guru's" versus "ignorant disciples".
I have come to see that the greatest gift a so-called "spiritual teacher" can give to a seeker is to completely abandon the paradigm of teacher versus seeker. Not just in words, but by actually being completely and utterly ordinary.

My deeply felt gratitude goes out to all those people, of which Jan is one, who embody this ordinariness, thus demystifying enlightenment and destroying the myth of the "special few".
Thank you Jan, for giving your own, uniquely beautiful expression to the all-inclusiveness of enlightenment.
An opening for the Heart
"Jan Kersschot's new book is a clear and focused inquiry into the reality of "who" you really are. Through the inspired use of metaphors, quotations and experiential techniques, Jan gently points us into the very Heart of "what is" and reminds us, once again, that we already are "who" we've been looking for. Highly recommended for those ready to finally discover that, beneath all of the drama, nobody is really home."
a beautiful message
Reading Jan's book and sensing the deeper essence of its message was a wonderful experience. Each page is a lyrically beautiful expression of an essential truth. Zen-like in its simplicity, it communicates directly with the awareness of the reader, gently inviting a response from the deepest levels of Being.
In these pages you will learn not just the principles behind coming home to your true nature, but simple, practical ways to apply those principles in everyday life and bring an end to your path of spiritual seeking.
What a joy to discover this book.

Odd Nerdrum: Paintings
Published in Hardcover by Distributed Art Publishers (June, 1995)
Amazon base price: $75.00

But you wouldn't want to live there.
This is the most beautiful and disturbing art book I own. Nerdrum's work is at once beautiful and grotesque. Having concluded that modern art is a joke, Nerdrum has fearlessly embarked on the task of furthering a style that the rest of the art world seems to have given up. The subject matter is at first rather opaque, but after the images leave their stain on your memory you begin to understand the metaphors. My only complaint is that the text at the beginning of the book isn't nearly as enlightening as the text in "Storyteller and self revealer". But the reproduction in that book is horrible.Nerdrum's world is the most horrible place I love to visit.
This book is a masterpiece.
This is an incredible book, at a decent price. I especially enjoy the details in this book (they uncover the depth of Nerdrum's paint.) From the beginning, the authors provide interpretation of his isolated figures and influences (Rembrandt, Caravaggio.) Altogether, If you like the old masters style, Nerdrum provides a fresh new approach, similar to Ernst Fuchs or Lucian Freud. Last, this book is a treasure to own, I use it everyday as a reference in painting and drawing.
WOW
Nerdrum paints in the renaissance style, with his own modern twist. He portrays isolated figures in a barren post-apocalyptic desert landscape, wearing unusual clothing and performing odd rituals. The detail photos of the paintings are awesome!! This book is worth every penny. WOW.

Outreach to the Hurting and Lonely
I have purchased more than 5 of these books for my friends, family, and church family who have lost loved ones. In all cases, they have responded that they love the book and that it has helped them in their walk with God.
Once the year is up, some have held onto them, but most have passed this on to others who need the comfort of the Lord.
I have yet to find another book that approaches this difficult time of adjustment as well as this one does!
A wonderful book for comfort as well as growth.
This book has been very comforting to me. It is beautifully written with much insight and sensitivity. I recommend it for anybody who has experienced the loss of a loved one.
I really love the simplicity and depth of this book
I'm not a widow, but this book brings peace to the soul as it is read...I love knowing that all those other people are agreeing with me in prayer every day, for the different prayers that is at the end of each page.

My favorite piece in this collection is "Beat the Qaaviks," Jans' account of an Arctic basketball game, but they're all excellent. I'm hoping to return to Selawik, and to take a friend with me. I gave him THE LAST LIGHT BREAKING to whet his appetite.
If you're reading this, you're already thinking about buying the book. Just buy it. It's great.
