A good place to start
This is an excellent book for introducing a novice to historical miniature war gaming. The photos of figures and terrain are wonderful, the text is easy to read and informative, and the wide choice of time periods has something for everyone. This is a truly great book and belongs on the shelf of anyone who has an interest in miniature soldiers, history, or military subjects.
Helped get me started
This book and Charles Grant's book of the same title provided a lot of the original inspiration when I began wargaming with minaiture soldiers in the early 70s. This book is not so much about wargaming as accounts of major battles of history illustrated with well-painted model soldiers on nice scenery. It gives a look to aspire to in setting out really nice wargames. Grant's book had a more prosaic looking set of photographs but more of the nuts and bolts of rules and gameplaying with model soldiers. The two complement each other very well. Take the history with a grain of salt. Peter Young was great at telling the stories of battles in a stirring fashion, but wasn't academically rigorous in sorting out the sources for legend vs most likely truth. That doesn't really matter though, since you buy this book for the look of the thing, not the last word on any particular battle presented. I can still see many of the photos in my mind's eye and I haven't cracked the book open in a few years.

Classic fantasy suitable for all ages
The Weathermonger concludes The Changes Trilogy, with Margaret and Jonathan not only being attacked by the people of England but also by the weather. Everything, including nature, now opposes our duo in their quest to restore acceptance of technology to the larger Brittish isle. They must brave the worst to find a solution long dead and a man who may not want to help them. An interesting solution to an intriuging series

A lively, informative, entertaining book.
Young adults in middle school on up will find Bicarb: Buffers, Bubbles, Biscuits & Earthburps intriguing: it uses the properties of sodium bicarbonate to relate a variety of scientific concepts from global warming to baking. This paperback with its black and white illustrations may lack the glitz of color texts on general science, but it makes up for this with a lively text which draws diverse and important connections between concepts and daily living.

eye-opening
I appreciated this book for its Christian perspective on a few of my favorite Shakespeare plays. The author explored not only the plots, but also the characters' relationships to Christ. The author made insightful parallels and comparisons between the characters and Christ and His church. I also appreciated the critiques of some of the film versions of the plays. I heartily recommend this eye-opening book!

About as good as it gets!
If you think of a comic book you may think of Superman or Batman, maybe even the X-Men. This story is about a superhero (if you can call him that) who most people have not heard of. That dosent matter at all. This is one of the best comic book stories I've ever read (and I've read quite a few, Watchmen and Sandman series) The art is amazing and tells the story brilliantly. The writing is even better!
For an idea of how the story is, imagine that suddenly you became God, you could see how everything is in the entire universe and then you could see how everything effects everything else, then you could see how those things turned out, but you still had the same mind. Would you go crazy?
Read this book and you will see! Truly an excellent story!

The Most Beautifully Illustrated Music Book Ever
This music book has the most beautiful illustrations. The different views of Mary and Jesus are wonderful. The collection of carols is just right. They are easy to play too. The illustrator pictured the traditional creche a different way in each picture. It had more of an Egyption style to the pictures. I love this music book so much.

Enthusiastically recommended reading for teens
Aptly edited by Red Deer Press' Children's Book Editor Peter Carver, Close Ups is a very impressive anthology of stories for teen readers featuring the literary storytelling talents of Bonnie Blake, Rick Book, Martha Brooks, Anne Carter, Gillian Chan, Brian Doyle, Sarah Ellis, Bernice Friesen, Linda Holeman, Jillian Horton, Sheley A. Leedahl, Alsion Lohans, R.P. McIntyre, Kevin Major, Kathy Stinson, Budge Wilson, and Tim Wynne-Jones. These are totally engaging stories where the characters grow in wisdom and understanding whill dealing with problems of family, friendships, and self discovery. Close Ups is enthusiastically recommended reading for teens, and a highly desirable addition to highschool and community library teen reading lists and short story collections.
