A must for beginning scientists
Peter Goodwins experiments and projects range from simplistic to more diverse, in which many projects can be made by a young scientist (age 12 - 18). Although physics is not a subject that many like while in school, the projects present excellent challenges to the theories taught in school. This book is great for those looking for interesting but easy projects, that if followed exactly will produce winning results.

How to do p-value adjustment the resampling way
Bootstrap methods have provided new theoretical and practical advances over the past 20 years. These authors convincingly argue the need to make p-value adjustments in multiple testing situations. They have written their own SAS program that allows the option of using bootstrap and permutation methods to compare with the more classical Bonferroni and Sidak bounds. Their program has been incorporated into a SAS/STAT procedure called PROC MULTTEST. I have found the program to be very useful in my medical device problems, particularly in the analysis of clinical studies. One such application is include in my book "Bootstrap Methods: A Practitioner's Guide." Westfall and Young have written an excellent book which serves as a very worthwhile reference book.

When ordinary people and politics clash
What starts off as preparation for a church musical turns into a hostage situation for a bunch of perfectly normal people who are only trying to get on with life and do what they love doing. The main character is Dolly, 17, who is full of ideas on how to make this year's musical great. She and the other adults in charge of the musical have drawn up lists of which kids should be in. and which out, and are just starting to get things into full swing when a group of very politicised terrorists grab them during a rehearsal, in an attempt to locate one particular boy. There's lots of dramatic tension, especially in the second half, and good, vivid descriptions of what goes on, so you can really imagine yourself in the church, with those hostage-takers pacing in front and the sleepy children silently huddled together in the pews... But I think the best thing about all Peter Dickinson's books for children, this one included, is that he doesn't dumb down - Dolly (and the other characters in his other children's books) isn't stupid. She watches, she observes facial expressions, and she works things out for herself and the reader. And although the hostage-taking is the main event in the book, the story actually has lots of other interesting bits in it - family, parents, music, singing and politics.

Amerca's participation in the Great War.
A summary of the First World War and America's participation in the war. I have read a number of summaries of World War I, but Bosco managed to make this interesting by making it concise and with some little known facts. The reader can easily understand the history behind the war with an investment of two hours reading this book. Although written for high school students, this book can be read by an adult wanting to know something about this event. America's participation is highlighted, due to the educational nature of this book.
A good quick read about World War I.

Excellent read, but....
This is an excellent book. i have enjoyed Peter Milligans writing since his pre-Vertigo days and I love Mike Allreds clean simple style of art. The story picks up right where the X-Force series ended and is a heck of a lot of fun. My only gripe with the book is fill-in artist Paul Pope's artwork. He draws worse than a third grader (though not as bad as Duncan Fegredo's fill in issue of X-Force) and the terrible artwork hurts the momentum of the story. I only wish that Mike Allred could keep up with his deadlines and that Marvel would not subject us to such garbage art. Otherwise, this is a really good book that you should read.

A Bone From A Dry Sea
A Bone From A Dry Sea Book ReviewThis book changed completely the way I used to look at ancient civilations and the job of archeologists on searching for the unknown. A Bone From A Dry Sea is a novel by Peter Dickinson which include two related stories that happen at different times. One is about a little girl named Li who is the thinker of her people. Her uncle, Presh, was the leader of the tribe. One day the tribe was attacked and Presh was killed. Incidently, most of the tribe was killed due to a tsunami. Li took the leadership to lead them to a safe place. On the other hand, four million years later, the sea had dried. Vinny was visiting the site where her father worked searching for the fossil remains of our ancestors. There, she was considered their "lucky pet". This young girl found a bone and observed details which weren't even noticed by famous experts. Therefore, leading the team to infer outstanding discoveries and motivatig them to excavate more. This mysterious novel was very realistic and believable. Teenagers can relate to the characters. The story as pretty well developed, still leaving some information out to keep the mystery. It was hard to get bored, there was always something new happening. The first story was too descriptive and took pages to get excited. The ending solved all problems and uncovered mysteries, still leaving a thought in our mind, challenging the author to write a continuation in the future.
A Bone From A Dry Sea
I had to read the book "A Bone From A Dry Sea" for school and since no one else in my group wanted to read it, I ended up reading it and loving it. The book tells about the adventures of "Li" a girl who lived in Africa 4 million years ago and the story also talks about the life of a girl named "Vinny" who discovers the remains of a dolphin's shoulder blade and who also discovered some of Li's life when she visited her father in Africa.
Theorizing about the past... subtly mysterious.
Loved this book... hard to put down.
"A Bone Fromm A Dry Sea" tells the story of Vinny... and her ancient ancestor Li, who lived millions of years ago. Now, Vinny has found a shoulder blade... the blade of a dolphin that lived long ago

Four Stars for Eva
I was never into the science fiction type of literature, but this book was an exception. This is one of the titles I chose to read for a presention in a college literature class (Adolescent Literature). I read the entire book in about two days. I gave this book a high rating because I think that the adolescent age frame would really enjoy reading this novel. It's based on the future perspective of the world and how humans have totally destroyed the living space for animals. It has an unreality twist to the plot also when Eva is in a horrible accident and the only way that her mother and father can save their little girl is to turn her personality over to a chimp's body. With the science fiction twist and the easy understanding of the novel, I would definately encourage teens to read it. It's an interesting story with a good story line to read into. Even if you don't like to read science fiction novels, this certain novel is more than just a science fiction novel, it's a look into the future with a touch of family love and scientist's love for animals.
Eva is a wonderful, provocative book for teenagers.
It's one of the best books I've read in a long time. While being highly entertaining, it
addresses important moral issues. Eva is a young teenager whose body has been
mangled beyond repair in a terrible car accident. It is assumed that this book takes
place in the future, when scientists have highly advanced technology. They can save Eva's
mind and soul, by putting in the body of a chimp. Peter Dickenson takes us on a
fascinating journey told through the eyes of Eva. You won't be able to put it down.
Fabulous for teenagers/everyone--Dickinson's best non-adult
See the other reviews--Eva has accident, has brain transplant, etc. The plot facts simply don't capture the wonder and horror of this book. I had to stop reading and just gasp when I understood what had been done in the operation--it was a complete surprise to me. Dickinson is like Avi with two extra pounds of creativity in his brain. The portrayal of Eva's developing isolation, her celebrity, her acts to gain freedom, and her passing on of culture to the apes is affecting and novel. I didn't really like the portrayal of the decline of humanity--it was too simplistic and predictable, though perhaps OK in a teen's book with other things going on. I have two other comments: first, think of this as an analogy to puberty/adolescence as some if not most teens go through it--a scary image. Second, see Dickinson's (more) adult mystery The Poison Oracle for an interestingly different perspective on the chimp-human phenomenon.

A Pedal of the Chrysanthemun
The book starts off with a boy named Muna, the nameless one, whos mother just passed away. He now wants to look for his warrior father so that he would be able to be highly respected and change his name of his 14th birthday to a name more proper for a man, but the only thing he knows about his father is that he has a chrysanthemun tattoo and a he is a Heike warrior.
I thought this book was quite good. It had many dialogues, a good storyline, and some action. Most of all, I liked how the book was easy to understand.

Muna is on a journey to find his father after his mom dies.
This book was good because the author described the book. This book was about a boy, Muna, whos mother died and told him to look for his father. I think there should be more action because it was kind of boring because there wasn't enough fighting. This book was good to read because it was nicely written.
The Sign of the Chrysanthemum
I think this was a great book. It was about a boy named Muna. Muna has never known his father because he left before Muna was born. So, after Muna's mother died, Muna went in search of his father. Muna meets many news people along the way and lives with a swordsmith. you have to read the rest of the book to find out what happens next. But, I would highly recommend it, especially to seventh graders studying fuedal Japan. I give this book two thumbs up!!!

Mind Riot is diverse; it changes pace on a dime. For instance, Glenn Head's "Skateboard Mayhem", a tongue-in-cheek adventure of a metalhead skateboarder with a pratfall and latter-day ironic twist, is followed right after by a story by David Greenberger and Dean Rohrer called "With Arthur," a downbeat, subtly beautiful story about the two extremes between old and young. And after that, followed by a hilarious memory of teenage shoplifting by Diane Noomin.
The women artists throughout, as has been the medium's trend, are candidly open with nonfiction stories in comic form, having followed the lead of trailblazers such as R. Crumb and Justin Green, and latter-day Joe Matt and Julie Doucet, etc. In Vicky Rabinowicz's "My Body," it takes on the serious theme of women's body issues, but on a dreamy, sprightly, surrealist rollercoaster ride. On the other hand, Ann Decker's "A Tale of Three Sisters" approaches the same issue, but from a different angle. It deals with the animosity between women and their bodies, instead of embracing one another in sisterhood. And for teen guys, Peter Kruper candidly captures the teen loneliness and guilt concerning sex in the funny story, "Animal Urges." But the most powerful of the bunch was Phoebe Gloeckner's "A Girl from a Different World." A story about that deals with incest and molestation, and teen reactions in response. Powerful and honest, it rounds out this collection's coming-of-age feel.
Mind Riot is essentially an introduction to underground comics, showcasing a host of artists out there attempting to push the limits of an artform past stereotypes and sugar-coated plots, until it reaches some center-of-truth satori.
