A helpful guide toward personal spiritual enrichment
This is a book that I will continue to refer to throughout my life. As I read through it the first time, I was able to apply its stories, lessons and explanations to myself and my approach to living. It helped me to sort through some of the negativity that was impacting my life and brought me to understand how I should approach a more spiritual and positive outlook. I have recommended this book to several close friends. I am grateful to Dr. Young for his easy-going style and the many personal stories that he included. I felt as if he were speaking directly to me.

A must read!
As a high school guidance counselor for the past 17 years, I have often suggested this book to high achieving and highly motivated students and their parents. They want to know what selective colleges are looking for in the admission process. Richard Moll opens the door to this mysterious process and offers valuable insight about what it takes to get in to those most highly selective schools. The sooner in the high school years that a student or parent gets this information, the better their chances for acceptance to the college of their dreams.

A wide range of stories clearly told...
Speaking as not only a Cherokee great-granddaughter, but also as a lover of stories, and as a youth services library clerk, I can say that I recommend this book to everyone. The collectors/editors themselves are of American Indian ancestry, and their respect for these stories is obvious. The language is clear, the imagery beautiful... Excellent for read-aloud, terrific for broadening children's horizons!

Vigorous historical novel of Ireland and the West Indies
Elizabeth Richards has written an astonishingly "alive" novel of Ireland and the West Indies in the mid-1700's. The story is built around the heroine, Medbeth, a girl growing into womanhood. It follows her adventures with the local Irish and English gentry, graphically depicting the oppression of the English regime in Ireland, and the reason for extensive Irish emigration. Medbeth's own flight across the Atlantic to Barbados is told in exquisite detail, as is the colonial regime of the sugar growers in the West Indies. The story is suffused with sensuality both of Medbeth's coming of age as well as the tropical climate of Barbados, not neglecting historically accurate accounting of the slave trade. Overall, a tour de force of story telling and historic "presence." It deserves a wide audience.

I found this at the Harvard Negotiation Workshop.

From negotiation to legal argument, this book has no peer, including Aristotle.

Schooling for Young Riders: A Handbook for the Horsemen of Tomorrow

memorable and enriching narrative
The book, Schooling For Young Riders, was a bok that I read 15 years ago as I was beginning my adventure as a horse educator. Richard Young 's memorable narrative about a spoiled pony that he purchased to train with his daughter, covers many of the same problems that I have encountered in the years since I read the book. He shares a common sense way of thinking like a horse to solve those problems and bring a young rider and horse both to their potential. This perspective has blended into my own methods that have come to include many natural horsemanship techniques. I would say that John Richard Young was ahead of his time, and shared that well in this book.

Sixteen is Too Young To Drive: Taking Control When Your Teen's Behind-the-Wheel
Published in Paperback by Footnote Publishing (2002)

Average review score:

Potentially life saving reading
Collaborative written by Donna and Richard Crossman, Sixteen Is Too Young To Drive: Taking Control When Your Teen's Behind-The-Wheel is a sobering book, written on the reflection that teenagers today are four times as likely as adults to have a motor vehicle accident, and more teens are likely to die in a car accident than from a drug overdose. Offering a profile test to determine whether one's teenager is ready to accept the responsibility of driving, a compare and contrast of different types of driver education, handling ground rules and misbehavior when an automobile is involved, Sixteen Is Too Young To Drive is potentially life saving reading for the parents.
